“Tropical Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2012

I'll start by saying this was the third time to Jamaica, first time to couples swept away. By far the best place I have stayed at. If your into the granite and fancy statues and hilton type decor this is not it. It's more like a tropical paradise. We stayed in a garden verandah suite. It was very nice especially with the outside patio and the mini fridge. The food was very good. If you like seafood which I do, you'll like the fish tacos or red snapper sandwich. The beach is as good as it gets. The ocean water in April was like bath water, and you can go out to the roped area and its not over your head. The float mats that are on your beach loungers are a great idea. The service was outstanding as were the entertainment staff and bartenders. No problems with the cleaning people either, always had are room looking nice every day. If your looking for a nice beach and a nice place to relax on vacation, couples swept away is it.

My wife and I stayed at Swept Away in June 2010. I was her first time out of the country and my first all inclusive resort. We loved every minute. There is so much to do that you are never bored. We loved the snorkeling and catamaran cruise, these are musts! The food was good to very good. There wasn't as much seafood as i thought there would be, but all the restaurants had first class service.

The rooms were good, not over the top. The bed was amazing, best I've ever slept on during any vacation.

There is a long drive from the airport (1 1/2 Hr), but we didn't mind it allowed us to see some of Jamaica!

We would love to come back.

A group of 20 of us went to Couples Swept Away for a wedding. It was my first time there, as well as in Jamaica, and I would definitely go back. The staff (most of them) were genuinely the nicest people I've ever met...and they remember your name and say hi to you for the rest of the week! Very welcoming. It did not feel as if they didn't want to be there or were being forced to give good service. However, the service was slow at some restaurants...they are definitely not in any kind of hurry, so don't expect them to be. The rooms weren't fancy, but they were neat and clean. The beach was amazing and the water is calm and crystal clear as far out as you can walk. The grounds and beach were kept very groomed and clean at all times. The pools and hottubs were pristine and there were rarely ever other people in the pool at the same time as us. The resort is very spread out so it never feels crowded. Even at the beach at the peak of the day, there were still chairs available and plenty of open space. One of my favorite things was that there are floats on every chair that can be taken into the ocean or pool to just float around. We didn't really go to any of the scheduled/organized events through the resort, but were able to play beach volleyball and pool volleyball at our own leisure. Since I already know how to wakeboard and waterski, I was able to go out without attending any of the lessons and no appointment was necessary (like most other water activities). The food was all good and there was enough variety that I didn't get bored by the end of the week. I really liked that the restaurant menus varied from day to day. There is always something available to eat, 24 hours/day. The first bar doesn't open until 10am, but there is a mimosa and bloody mary station at the breakfast buffet, so there is almost always a place for a drink as well. I definitely recommend going to Lemongrass and Feathers at least once each...delicious. There is entertainment nightly at the Palms, and the piano bar in the aura lounge is great. When the piano bar closes, the nightclub opens. It wasn't ever very busy, but there's a different DJ every night, some of the entertainment staff pop in to dance, and the bartenders are fun. It stays open until you're ready to go to bed. Overall, the resort more than lived up to my expectations. If I go back to Negril, I doubt I will even consider checking out any other resorts!!

Room Tip: "Oceanview" isn't worth the extra money. We could only see a sliver of the ocean and i...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2012

My wife and I stayed a week from April 17th to April 24th for our honeymoon and couldn’t have envisioned a better time. The service was just fantastic and we were wined and dined from start to finish. Anything we wanted was there from great food to drinks to towels and bottled “wata.”

Here is our detailed starting from the beginning:

Check-In: Landed in Montego Bay at about 1:30 PM, rolled through customs with no problem and were in the Couples lounge by 2:00. We were greeted with a smile and they took care of our luggage. We grabbed a quick red stripe and we were off to the resort within 20 minutes. We left Montego Bay on a shuttle with a few other couples, but we were the only ones going to CSA. When we arrived around 3:40 PM, we were handed a cold towel and champagne and ushered to the check-in desk. Took about 5-7 minutes to make sure everything was in order. Our room was ready on time and exactly what we asked for. The only thing we had to fix quickly was they didn’t have record of our resort credit. But that wasn’t a big deal, the concierge quickly added it to our account and within 15 minutes of arriving, we were off to our room.

Room: Stayed in a Great House Jacuzzi Suite number 5108. Amazing full ocean view from the verandah with a fully stocked mini-bar with exactly what we asked for. Spacious room overall with plenty of storage and a large bathroom that included a small Jacuzzi. All windows and doors opened which allowed you to get a nice flow of ocean air into the room. Also, use the fans, there were two, one on the porch and one in the room which kept things cool. We barely ever had to turn on the A/C. There were little tiny ants that would be around from time to time, mainly in the shower and near the wet bar. It’s the tropics so as long as there weren’t swarms they didn’t bother us. Just don’t leave any food out!

Reservation System: After you arrive or get to your room, read over the activities pamphlet and choose what days you would like to have restaurant reservations, go on the catamaran cruise, etc. We made reservations immediately for Lemongrass, Feathers, the Shopping trip and the Catamaran cruise which books up fast. They only do restaurant reservations 3 days in advance, so, plan out what day you want dinner where because they book fast. We had no trouble though getting reservations for anything using that method! The glass bottom boat tour is booked the day before and fills up quickly. We suggest getting in line for it at 7:50 AM the day before you want to do it so that you can reserve a spot!

Beach: The beach was one of the most amazing sights I’ve ever seen. Warm sand with crystal clear Caribbean waters. Very little seaweed or shells which was a nice touch! The first four days, the waters were so calm with a nice breeze each afternoon. Then with a storm coming up the East Coast, we had very rough surf for our final three days which caused water sports to be canceled due to very gusty winds. The waves were so bad, the beach started to suffer from some slight erosion. But Couples did the best they could to keep things in order and cater to everyone during that time. The only thing we missed because of these high waves was the Glass Bottom Boat and Catamaran cruise…but that’s another excuse to go back to the resort! As far as the beach chair situation…yes, most people reserve the palupa’s early in the morning as well as groups of chairs. However, we never ever had any problem finding chairs anytime of day either in the sun or in the shade under the palm trees. We enjoyed it under the palm trees more than the palupas. There were more than enough chairs and floaties to accommodate everyone so I can’t figure out what people are talking about with some of these reviews! Just walk down the beach and you’ll eventually find some not being used or reserved then you can move them wherever you would like! They also had their green flag service (you need to get a green flag, in a barrel in the middle of the beach walk on the hotel side) which allows you to never have to get up to grab a drink/smoothie/shaved ice as the servers walk around to serve you - although they will ask if you want anything even if you do not have a green flag. The servers also walk around with fruit kabobs which are amazing. There is also a very clean beach bathroom which is nice.

Food/Bars: The food was unbelievable and mind you, we are not a fancy couple! Had lunch at the grill everyday (have the jerk chicken, it is amazing along with jerk burgers!) Usually started on the beach in the morning, went to the grill about midday, then to the pool bar each afternoon where Damion, Ruel, and Kurt kept the drinks flowing. Get to know the bartenders and talk to them about their lives too…they remember you, your name, what you like to drink, etc. Which makes things very very nice! Breakfast at Patois Patio was great…my wife loved the banana stuffed French toast! The Palms breakfast buffet is great too…don’t miss the pancake and waffle bar in the back near the desserts! Breakfast smoothies are plentiful as well as the blue mountain coffee. Sweet potato chips at Seagrapes are a nice mid-afternoon snack along with the self serve ice cream machine there. For dinners, we tried everywhere! Patois has great wood-fired pizzas and appetizers while the Palms does different things on the buffet. Lemongrass was our least-favorite, but even that wasn’t really all that bad. Feathers we thought would be too fancy but it actually ended up being a very nice dinner spot. Entrees were cooked well and the desserts were unbelieveable! And if you don’t enjoy dinner for some reason, the Grill is open til 5 AM for late-night snacking! See Ricardo at the Martini Bar above the Palms, he makes an unbelievable Martini. And be sure to try a “couples” martini…you’ll be stumbling down the steps after that!

Entertainment/Nightclub: Rasheen and Omar were fantastic entertainment committee leaders. There was never a day short of activities. We tried to only plan a few here and there just to make sure we relaxed more than anything without a schedule. But be sure to attend the Steel Drummers show at the Palms on Wednesday nights as well as the Friday Night Beach Party! Take the rum tasting class with Omar and Rasheen, it’s well worth it! As far as the nightclub, we went there a few times, mainly for the piano bar, which is a really nice touch. Ultimate Chocolate was on vacation but the guy filling in did a nice job overall! Drinks are good at the nightclub and so is the music after the piano bar finishes. That’s where we tried our first Bob Marley shots and let’s just say the remainder of the night is fuzzy! Definitely have to have at least one while you’re there!

We did check out the casino on Sunday night when they have blackjack and an auction. It’s a pretty good time when there are more people around. Most of the other times of the day and night, it’s pretty empty.

Excursions: We went on two excursions through the resort. First was the Friday afternoon shopping trip to Time Square. Definitely take this, I can’t figure out what people are complaining about. We went there, spent about $100 on t-shirts, a polo, shorts, magnets, hot sauce, 5 bottles of liquor, postcards, and even more than that. The resort prices are more than double what you find here. Yes, it’s true the liquor is cheaper at the airport, but you can only carry on 2 liters each legally. And I found the prices weren’t all that much more expensive at Time Square. So, pick and choose, but don’t buy liquor on the resort! Remember you can haggle prices down at Time Square so don’t take the first offer!

We also did horseback riding on the beach which was very interesting, but a good time. For $150, Couples arranges a taxi which will take you on a half hour drive into the country. Our driver was very knowledgeable and told us all about the landscape and fruits that grow in Jamaica. He answered any questions we had and was very friendly. We got to the grove and met our tour guide for the morning. We hopped on two horses and proceeded on a 45-minute ride through a grove of all different trees and plants. The tour guide was very friendly and talked to us the whole time. We got to the beach, rode the horses along the sand then got changed into our swimsuits. Next, they take you into the water on the horses and literally, the horses go until just their heads are sticking out of the water! We got at least a hundred pictures of us on the horses which was nice. Certainly this kind of a trip gives you a different appreciation for how life is down in Jamaica.

Spa: Had the complimentary Couples massage for being on our honeymoon which was very nice! We went back and got a facial and my wife a hot-stone massage which she said was incredible. Nothing really to complain about here, staff was very good and professional around there.

Tips: Take tip money for the Spa staff, any taxi rides you may take for excursions, as well as the folks that carry your bags at the airport. Didn’t even carry money on the resort at all, though there are some vendors here and there which if you’re interested you can check out. Cigar man that comes around allows you to charge things to your room which is nice. We left a tip for the maid because she was incredible but really she wasn’t expecting ones.

Overall, had a very enjoyable trip and will definitely return someday. Probably would try a different room category as we didn’t use the Jacuzzi as much as we thought. Be friendly toward the staff and talk with them, especially the waiters and bartenders. We always said hello or good morning to staff members while we were walking and they were always friendly back. Take bug spray for at night and for any excursions. My legs got bitten pretty good while my wife barely had any bites! And take time to sit on your porch (if you have one) it is nice to people watch or watch the sunset go down from there - calm and comfortable. Also have Cecil take your picture while on the resort - he takes wonderful pics, although write down when you had your pics taken because that's the only way you can see them at the photo booth (they have them separated by time of day and actual day, that's it) Highly recommended resort with friendly staff, good food, and plentiful events.

Beautiful white, sandy beach. Fantastic food, drinks and service. Not luxurious but nice rooms. Didn't have an opportunity to try the specialty restaurants but Patois and The Palms were great as well as the Cabana Grill.

This place is by far the best vacation me and my husband have ever taken. The grounds are beatiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was awesome. The beach was so beatiful. Our room was very romantic. The airport lounge was very relaxing. The bus trip to resort was very sightful. Only one complaint and that is not there long enough. Will defitenly being going back.

Room Tip: We had a garden view and it was very nice. I would recommend the second floor for a little bit more...

We split stay between CN (5 days) and CSA (10 days) this year to attend a wedding at CN. We have been to CN twice now and CSA 11 times. I have posted a review on our stay at CN if you are interested but let me begin by telling you we loved CN but CSA is still our favorite. There is just something about CSA that is magical for us.
We arrived at CSA around 1:00 pm and our room was ready for us. Check in was a breeze and it was so nice being greeted by Lenise and the Front Desk team. Great way to start a vacation in Paradise.
As others have mentioned there are lots of new faces in the Entertainment team and the restaurants but everyone was very friendly. It was great to see a number of staff who have been there for years. What amazes me is that with will all the people they see everyday, they still remember our faces and names. Some even remember where we like to sit for dinner. Now that's customer service.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Karen Lanigan the new GM and Brian Plunkett (hope I spelled that correctly) the new Manager of the Water Sports Team. Both of these people really amazed me. I saw them all over the place looking into things that I have never seen anyone look into before. One morning I saw Karen inspecting the gardens around our room. I have never seen a GM get that involved in the grounds keeping. Brian is a great problem solver. When ever even the smallest issue would arise he would fix it. I watched one afternoon as he guided security and one of the guys from the water sport team find a woman's engagement ring that was lost in the sand. He was calm, logical and methodical in his approach. Everyone was so happy when they found the ring - especially the bride. I know with these two on the CSA Management Team things at CSA will change for the better.

We had most of our meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at the Palms. We love the food and ambiance. Dinner at the Palms with the candles and the live music is like stepping back in time to what I think a great Caribbean resort would have been like back in the 50's. There's just a relaxed elegance I can't find anywhere else.
We had dinner at Lemon Grass one evening and really enjoyed the food there. The red curry chicken was seasoned perfectly. We got a table along the railing so we could watch the Silverbirds performance. That's a show that is a must see. So much energy and talent in that group!
We spend most of our days enjoying the beach and talking to the vendors. They really are a nice group of locals that walk this beach. We've been seeing the same ones for many years and enjoy catching up with them about what's going on in Jamaica. They love to talk about the government and politics. I spoke to one of the Security Guards and he told us that CSA has asked them to move the vendors along and keep down the number of singers and little groups that stop to play for money. They are trying to keep the beach quieter and more relaxing for the guests. I noticed the difference this year and found the beach much more relaxing even right down by the water.
While at CSA I completed my open water certification with Anthony and the Dive Team. What a great bunch of guys. Anthony is a wonderful instructor. Very patient and calm when giving instructions. Exactly what I needed to help me learn the skills and develop my confidence. Only got to do 1 dive after being certified but it was a fabulous dive with Glenroy (aka Panda). I'm looking forward to New Years when I hope to be back again.

I'd like to thank everyone at CSA for making this another great visit. Can't wait to get back and see everyone again.
