“Great place”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

This was a very nice hotel. Food was ok but that is what is expected at all inclusive. Room service food was horrible Beach was wonderful. Pool bartenders Andrew and Otis were great. Elton at the lobby bar was great too. Grounds were immaculate. Rooms were spacious and clean and frig stocked daily. The only thing I could find wrong with it is that the walls are thin...could hear other rooms a little. Not really a good spot for kid. The other rui is more suited for kids. Would go back.

Room Tip: Building 7 is on the street-noisy

We were there march 22-29. The palace is very nice. The wait staff so nice and work hard. I had read reviews of safe trouble. We were there less then 24 hours and my safe quit working. I called front desk and waited, wife and friends went to beach. After 1/2hr. I went outside to look for somone and a bell man asked if i needed anything. Thats the kind of treatment you get from almost all of the staff.after batteries it was working. Went to beach. Came back a few hrs. Later and our friends, room next door, there code would not work on safe. Manager andrew came right away and opened. After he left they opened there wallet and 1/2 the cash was missing. We went to front desk to talk to andrew. He accused him of spending the money and not remembering.(: while we were talking to him,he answered the phone and somone else said they couldnt get there safe open he said he would be right there.wow we kept are cash and expensive items with us the rest of the trip. So that set the trip off in a bad vibe. We only ate at the buffets and the jerk hut which is good like they say.buffet was always good didnt love everything but where do you. We have been to dominican mexico and other places in jamaica. This bloody bay is by far the best. Can walk out to shoulders and still see your feet. No seaweed or rocks.and know strong waves. So nice! Jermaine at the morning buffet and lunch, anntoneth at the dinner buffet treated us so well.we did tipp about a 1$ per person.i met carly the security gaurd one evening she was cool. Drinks were always good.we will be going back and will stay at the palace. We miss our friends from the resort.

The Riu Palace seemed more unreal up close than in the photographs. It looks better in person! The staff are all well trained, professional and good looking...lol. The compound was well lit, very clean with an extravagant architectural layout. The rooms exceeded my expectations, with stone floors, ebony furniture and balcony. I dont drink otherwise but at the Riu I drank...lol, so if you dont usually drink dont let that stop you! You must try the rum, the rum creme original was my favorite. Now the beach - I was born in a coastal city and have access to the beach everyday but didnt like it, but at the Riu I could not wait to walk in the white sand, wade in the teal waves of Bloody Bay, snorkel off the reefs or swim to the bouys and back! My girlfriend and I stayed for seven days from Saturday to Saturday. Dont hesitate to take the hotel taxi to town or to night clubs - the prices are reasonable and plan for a few excursions. My girlfriend and I went on an excursion to Dunns River Falls and took a Catamaran Cruise through Scuba Caribe. I cannot say enough good things about Scuba Caribe or the Riu Palace or the jamaican food at the buffet. Book a vacation now!

Room Tip: We asked to be placed in a room in a building near the center, non-smoking with an ocean view. We h...

I'm a bit late writing this review and I sincerely hope that things have improved since our visit.

We stayed at RPTB in April 2010 which was supposed to have been for 14 nights. However, due to the volcanic ash in Iceland we had to stay for an extra 3 nights as our flights were suspended. I would add that our travel agent Thomson TUI were very good and we were allowed to stay in our original rooms at the hotel, so well done Thomson.

When we first arrived the hotel looked really nice in the Reception area, but we had to decend the flight of stairs down towards the pool and could hardly believe our eyes. There were numerous people Canadian, American, Russian all by the pool bar acting like animal. You could smell the pot they were smoking as you passed, but what was really disgusting was they were smoking it in the pool, dropping ash and cig butts in to the pool. What you need to be reminded of here is that children were actually using this pool. Money was exchanging hands for bottles under the counter at the pool bar and these so called ADULTS were behaving like idiots. No wonder kids today are getting out of control with no respect when they have parents that act in this manner.

Food This was OK the first week, but the remainder of the trip was well below par. If you didn't get in to the evening buffet early they seemed to run out of nearly everthing. Items were not replaced or if they were, replaced with something different but sub-standard, not great. We have stayed in Riu hotels in Mexico and Tenerife in Europe but this did not compare.

Beach Was nice but a lot of the beds were broken (not a suprise when you see how the staff throw them about) and you had to be up and on the beach before 8am for a good place, so nothing new there, this seems to be the norm no matter where you travel to.

Booking a la carte was not really a problem although a lot of reviews before we went said it was terrible. The problem was that when you arrived for your meal the place was empty and they didn't seem to want you to relax and enjoy your meal. We felt like they wanted you out as soon as possible.

Well if you are due to travel hear I hope you have a great time and as I stated at the beginning of my review I hope it has improved since our visit.

Good Luck

Room Tip: Middle of the resort is good.

Just returned from our family vacation at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay and had a wonderful time! We traveled with our two children age 10 and 15.

We were impressed from the moment of check in. The staff is amazingly helpful and quickly attended to any need or question we had. Quick and efficient check in and were quickly brought to our room. We were in building 4, room 4311, oceanfront view. Yes, there are trees that partially block your view of the ocean but it is still worth it. Plenty of room for the four of us. Rooms are well maintained and room service was perfect. If we needed anything they were quick to bring it to us. We did not use the safe as we travel with our own but I did hear another guest say theirs was broken into. Room service was within 10 minutes and they even deliver at odd times to accommodate flights etc. The only downfall of the room was the very hard mattress. They do need to upgrade the mattresses. We had two double beds and asked to have them tied together, which was quickly done. One night our neighbor was enjoying a bit of the local smoke and our room smelled. A staff person quickly asked if we would like to change rooms and started to get us a new room. We declined and just aired the room out for a bit but was greatly impressed at the concern and the handling of the situation.

The beach was amazing! Beautiful and warm. Always chairs available and a little bit of ocean life. A few resident sting rays, fish and crabs. Not much to see snorkeling but it was wonderful. Lots of locals selling their wares on the beach but everyone is very respectful and a no thank you is always respected and they walk away. We had noted a lot of people complaining that the bar and restroom were too far from the beach but we did not find this a problem. This is a smaller resort and everything is pretty close. Pools were adequate and most often chairs available there also. Really had no issues with either the pool or the beach. Warning to traveling with kids. We love to walk the beach but if you go to the left too far the kids will get a lesson as there is a nude beach there. Great conversation opportunities on drugs and the nude beach ;) Not issues if you just talk to your kids.

Food is good. Buffet is better than most all inclusive resorts we have been to. There was always something for everyone. We had no problems whatsoever making reservations at the restaurants. We went to the steak house and the Italian. Both were good. If you are expecting five star fine dining you won't get it but no issues really and it was good. The resort wine they serve we did not care for however the staff was wonderful to go get anything we wanted from the bar. Chad would even deliver it on his head! Thanks Chad for the wonderful entertainment!

Entertainment at night was good and the staff worked really hard. If you engaged in the entertainment you were rewarded with a lot of laughs. This resort was not a party resort and after the entertainment most of the resort was pretty quiet which suited our family vacation perfectly. On some nights they had locals that brought in their goods to sell. This was great to get your souvenirs. We even mentioned that we were looking for something in particular which he did not have however two nights later he came back with it and for a great price!

We opted to get our own transfer from the airport after reading reviews on TripAdvisor and we very happy we did. We contacted Dudley Warren from Big Fish Tours from others reviews and were very pleased. The trip was great and we didn't have to wait for a bus to get to the resort. We did transfers with Dudley to and from the airport and after meeting him we also had him pick us up for an excursion. We did one other excursion booked through the hotel and wished we would have called Dudley to take us instead. Contact Dudley for any travel needs in Jamaica, it was worth it! He can be reached at duds24@hotmail.com Dudley even sent an email to see if we got home safe!!! Thanks for a great trip Dudley!!!

For excursions we went to Rick's Cafe and a nearby lighthouse. We did this with Dudley and he stopped at some local points for us and also Margaritaville. We liked being able to see local things we would not normally get to see. Rick's Cafe and Margaritaville was fun. Lighthouse was beautiful and the little shop Dudley took us too had fabulous breads and little "pies". We also went to see the crocodiles and YS falls. Both very nice.

We had a wonderful vacation and would definitely go back again!

Room Tip: We were in building 4 and it was the perfect location.

We had a great time at this resort. Third time to Jamaica, MB and Ochos Rios, our other destinations. Would only return to Negril now. We are usually devoted "pool people" but the beach here has us spending several days on it. Our room on the third floor of building 3 had an great view of the sunset, spent every evening with a drink on our balcony. Were treated very well by all the employees and met some wonderful people from Canada and Wisonsin. If you need a dependable cab driver by all means call Gary at [--] He was dependable and reasonable
