“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

We stayed at the Marriott San Juan Resort and Stellaris Casino March 2012 for 5 nights. Because we were there 5 nights, they gave us breakfast for 2 for each day. The breakfast was so good and the variety was wonderful, that it could last you till dinner if necessary! The service throughout the hotel is great, concierges was knowledgable about everything going on on the island, and you could book several tours right from the hotel. Easy walking to several restaurants and other hotels, so lots to do right from the hotel. Easy cab ride to Old San Juan. The beach was nice, but gets crowded at times, and the pool was too cold to swim in (that time of year). Great fitness and spa services and very nice rooms.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "tower" which we were told was quieter than pool side. No complaints abou...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for two nights before a cruise, and really enjoyed it. Our room had a small balcony with two chairs and a small table, overlooking the swimming pool, and we could also see some of the beach and the ocean. We had paid attention to the reviews and asked to be in a room away from the street side.

The room was very nice, with everything we expected from a Marriott Resort, with small safe in the closet, comfortable bed, and a small table and two armchairs, as well as a desk. Our room was quiet, the beach was beautiful, and the pool area was clean and well maintained. Lots of shade in the pool area, which we liked, but there were lots of beach chairs available on the beach if we had wanted to sit in the sun. The service we experienced was very good, including housekeeping, everyone we encountered was polite and helpful. We don't gamble, so avoided the casino. It was loud in the lobby during the evening, as other reviews mentioned, but we did not need to do more than walk through to get to the elevator.

We had dinner in the hotel the first night and were somewhat disappointed in the food for the price. Breakfast the next morning - the buffet - again was pricey, but it was very good.

As other reviews state, the Condado area is safe, and very convenient with several restaurants and shops within comfortable walking distance. The day we checked out, we asked at the bellstand for the best place to shop for wine to take on the ship, and the bellman gave us directions to a small liquor store a couple of blocks away with prices lower than the Walgreen's, which is also a short walk from the hotel.

We wanted to tour Old Town San Juan, and the concierge was very helpful in explaining the best way to get to the area, and how to get around without having to take taxis everywhere.

We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor away from the street side of hotel if you want a quiet room.

When looking for a hotel in Puerto Rico I found that there were not many recommended hotels to choose from. I didn't plan on getting a rental car, so I was looking for a hotel that was close to several restaurants and a decent exercise facility.
This hotel is about a 15 minute ride/$20 cab fare from the airport and is located in what is considered the "tourist" area. Upon arrival the bell hops and other people working the arrival were very attentive and as I found out the hardest working people at the hotel. They kept the cars moving and the entrance organized while cars continually tried to use the small entrance as a parking area.
The room was nice, and contained a LCD TV and mini fridge. Several people said that it was safe to drink the water from the tap, but the hotel provides four complimentary bottles of water each day, so I wasn't sure if that was a hint. The bed was standard Marriott comfortable and the bathroom was larger than the typical closet size. The negatives about the room would be the carpet and the door. I don't recommend walking barefoot around the hotel room, since I found out that the bottom of your feet can get quite dirty. When entering the room I found the door to be extremely fussy. I would swipe the key card, hear the door unlock, press the handle down to open the door and the door wouldn't open. It took about 10 times on average to open the door, until I figured out that I had to hold the door handle up, swipe the card and then push the handle to open it.
Breakfast is served in the morning starting at 7am, but that time usually doesn't work well for business travelers. I found that the coffee shop had pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and other breakfast items readily available. Plan on spending about $8 on a beverage, muffin and fruit. The oatmeal is not a daily offering. It is prepared with vanilla and cinnamon, if those are flavors that you enjoy then you'll find the oatmeal very good.
There are a couple of restaurants on site and plenty of restaurants in the area. Across street there is a classic burger and fries restaurant. The Cherry Blossom restaurant is a couple of doors down and serves Japanese/Asian themed food. There is also an Italian themed restaurant on the opposite side of the road across from The Cherry Blossom.
I never entered the premises of the casino. Upon room check in the desk clerk will give you a hand full of $5 certificates that you can use to increase your $5 bet by another $5. This wasn't a good enough offer for me to feel like I had to gamble.
The hotel has an outdoor pool and play area for kids, however the kids section was closed when I was there. The beach area looked to be well kept and there were plenty of chairs stacked in piles for guests to use.
The on site exercise facility was very good and better equipped than a lot of hotels that I have been to.

Marriott rates this hotel as a 4 diamond property, most likely due to the services offered. The ranking is probably given based on other hotels in the area and when the hotel opened, but for $200+ a night the property shouldn't be rated that high.

ditto everything booterp02 says-great location, beautiful beach, walk to great venues for dining. very young and fun atmosphere and location-perfect for taking a young adult to vacay with mom or dad. spin classes across the street. go right out of street side of hotel, makes a great jog. No immigration makes it a convenient choice for U.S. vacationers. preset taxi rates for transfers from hotel - excellent idea-know before you go! trip was more expensive than others i have taken to all inclusives but, the no immigration and predominately english speaking crowd make it a certain "return trip" destination. loved it!

Room Tip: request room facing ocean on upper floor for best view.

This is a very nice hotel with great food, great salsa live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and sits on one of the best beaches Puerto Rico has to offer. I stayed at la concha but the beach there is not as nice as this one at all. So this is only place I would stay if in San Juan.

Room Tip: Ocean front is always best but city view is also very nice!

We stayed here one nite pre cruise. The check-in and check-out process quick and easy. The casino was ok. Did not eat in any of the restaurants, but plenty of places with in walking distance. We had 2 rooms one with 4 adults and one with 3 adults. The rooms were spacious enough with small refrigerator to get beverages cold, each has a small balcony where we could sit outside and enjoy the evening. We would definitely stay here again.

Just returned from a stay at the Marriott. Outstanding hotel, and there is not a better location in all of San Juan to stay. The Condado neighborhood is very unique; charming, upscale, walkable, and loaded with stores and places to eat to meet a variety of budgets. The hotel has a beautiful stretch of beach. The grounds were perfectly manicured, landscaped, and tidy. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast included with the price was excellent. So many hard working employees keep this place shining. Lots of nice perks that came along with the hotel, two concierge desks, rental car desk, beach umbrella and chair station (where they will set it up for you), etc.

One drawback is price. Everything is really expensive. Two frozen mixed drinks were $21.00, $25 after tip. Parking was pretty salty as well. Restaurants (breakfast, for example, was $25 if you were not on the plan.....hot dog and fries $13, burger and fries $15) were up there too. Pretty high daily resort fee which, as far as I could tell, covered free wi-fi and that's it. Like others have said, take advantage of the places nearby to eat and get some local P.R. flavor/dishes. Also, go to Walgreens and stock up on drinks and snacks. The prices there were cheaper than they are back in the states.

A great stay, would love to go back, and would definitely suggest staying here to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in San Juan.
