First Time to Ponce

First time on the south coast of Puerto Rico. This was our 6th time back and 4th Hilton we stayed at on the island. I won't compare because that's not fair as far as location or grounds each are very very different dependent upon where the hotel is located.

What I will say is this resort is beautiful. The grounds were immaculate, the entrance impressive and the pool, beach, ground games, flowers, walkways, restaurants and rooms were very well kept. Bathrooms in common areas were clean and even had extra areas to shower off near the pool deck or change.

This appears to be a kid friendly resort but as a mother I'm not sure this is small kid friendly say 2 or under. Not a negative by any means just a note to think about.

The pool is amazing, there are so many levels and options on where to sit and enjoy the sun and or shade. We loved the deck beds where you could literally sit back relax and dip as needed. There is an upper sun deck that is pretty neat to. Great views of the resort and the ocean. We walked the beach and went pretty far, past the police station but it was low tide and we could go around the trees in the water, only ankle deep. At hide tide you'd have to take the sand upper route. We did the breakfast was nice on site not sure if you need to do the full breakfast, we tried both and were please with both.

We did hit up the casino a few nights, it's large and there were some great ladies working Monica, Alicea which made our time there even better. Real deal casino to.

All in all great resort, exceptional island/ocean views and great staff. We would return.

Our experience did not fall to the level of poor, but it was well below average. While clean, the property is tired. Things look and feel old and dated. Room repairs were done in a sloppy way to cover up problems rather than restore to original condition. The bathroom had no vent or fan. The TV signal repeatedly went out or pixelated—often enough that we stopped watching a movie. There was a sewage smell in certain areas as we walked the property.

The continental breakfast buffet was a bust for us. The coffee was warm, not hot, both days. The cut up fruit especially the melons were prepped many hours ahead of time and had developed a slime on the surface and/or were soggy, both days. Lots of bread choices, but the two I tried didn’t taste fresh.

Not all bad: Our room was clean and sizable. The bed was fine. The pool was nice and inviting (though forget about the beach—not good). The hotel staff seemed friendly enough.

Last item…and maybe the worst: it sounded like there was zero soundproofing in the walls and ceilings. We heard EVERYTHING. If we had been staying a week, we would have asked for an end room on a top floor.

Vacationers: There are better choices for your money. Seize them.

Beware of the Taxi Service Outside This Resort
I had a terrible experience with a taxi driver named Luis, who is not affiliated with the resort but operates outside it. After paying him in full, he falsely claimed that he never received the money and accused us of walking away without payment. This is not only untrue but also incredibly dishonest.

It’s important to note that this taxi service is not part of the resort, so when issues like this arise, the resort takes no responsibility. To avoid situations like this, I strongly recommend using Uber instead. With Uber, you have a reliable record of payments and can trust that the driver won’t pull stunts like this.

This experience was disappointing, and I urge the resort to warn guests about these drivers to protect future visitors.

The hotel is OK, rooms and bathrooms need some upgrades for the 21st century.
We requested two connected rooms and paid for them but we were told the hotel was full and there was nothing to do.
I have gold category on Hilton but couldn’t get the breakfast as my wife made the reservation (!?).
The restaurants are OK. We enjoyed the Hibachi one…

Room tip: Try to get the room on the Ocean Tower (renovated)

The rooms were clean and the property grounds are well maintained. Plenty of seats by the pool which was clean and not overcrowded. The hotel is older, and could use an update, the bathroom is outdated. The beds should be replaced with two Queen sized as well. The staff are very friendly and accommodating , they address any issues quickly. The hotel is centrally located and easy to navigate with a car. The beach is nice to walk, but the water is extremely rough and swimming is not encouraged.

Beautiful facilities and grounds. Room was spacious and clean. Casino was nicely run and clean. Pool bar staff were very attentive. Continental breakfast is adequate.

I was a bit disappointed in the lack of managerial oversight with room details. Some TLC is needed.

Better attention should be given to room readiness. After being up for 19 hours all I wanted upon arrival was to get to bed. When I got to the room the door was difficult to open. My husband had to push really hard to get the humidity seal to break and get the door to move. Then the AC was completely shut off. Had to call and get a maintenance person in to turn it on and test it. Then the safe did not work and the maintenance person had to be called again in the morning to come fix it. Later in the day I went onto the patio. When I came in the door would not close properly in order to lock it. Once again my husband had to work with the door for 5 minutes to get it to shut and lock. At that point we decided not to use the patio anymore. There were also other guests using all the patios as a sidewalk rather than going out the front door and using the true sidewalk. If you are considering taking an oceanfront room I’d suggest you take one on a high floor.

I wanted to share this feedback with Hilton when I left at about 10:30. Unfortunately there were 4 people in line with only 1 person on the front desk. After five minutes of waiting, without any forward movement, I left.

I’ve stayed at the Hilton in the past, although it’s been about 10 years since my last stay. It’s a beautifully located Hilton on the ocean. It has lovely resort amenities that are nicely tended. There is excellent access to Ponce. What the hotel needs is stronger management attention to room details.

Room tip: Do not book a ground level patio room if you want privacy.
