Vieques has no shortage of great beaches, and Secret Beach is no exception. Great for lazing on the beach and swimming. Snorkeling is just OK.

Pata Prieta, Secret Beach, used to be our favorite beach on Vieques but the last 2 times we were there, wasn't the best. The beach is pretty secluded, down a dirt road, park in a lot, then walk a short distance down a gravel road. It's along a quiet little cove, doesn't get alot of visitors. To the right is a rocky point, good for snorkeling but waves can make it a bit treacherous. There are lots of kairns, artful rock pilings, on the rocks to the right of the beach. Interesting. Fun to do and makes for some great pics. The water is warm here and calmer. My only complaints ; there is usually ALOT of seaweed on the beach here and not alot of trees for shade so bring an umbrella. One time we went, there were a tremendous amount of bees swarming...no wonder the beach was empty! :D Secret Beach is definitely a more natural, rustic beach....but on Vieques, there are definitely prettier beaches in our opinion.

The water is really warm and clean. There were about a dozen people on the beach which left plenty of room to set up our umbrella. There is a long strip of seaweed that runs the length of the beach. This beach is good for snorkelling.

Definitely one of my favorite two beaches on the island. Water is crystal clear and aqua blue. Stingrays swam around my feet. A few places for shade, but better to bring an umbrella.

The beach is ok but I agree with the other reviewer, it was the most densely crowded of all the beaches we visited. The secret has been let out of the bag and it means many more people.
