If you're staying at the La Pagerie hotel, this would be good place to go for dinner if you arrive on the island late. It is on the pricey side but overall it was good.

we spent a very enjoyable 3 hours here. I had a tuna salad and enjoyed it very much. We had a conversation with tourists at the next table and ended up spending 3 hours and enjoying several drinks. Great people watching place.

We arrived on Sunday night, party of four, not staying at the Pagerie Hotel. The place was beautifully set up, but rather empty, which was too bad as it was an elegant place for quiet conversations in an upscale atmosphere. It was soon apparent that our inablility to speak French was a problem. 3 people welcomed us, then departed. We ordered drinks, and asked for iced tap water, as Martinique water is perfectly safe to drink. The water brought two bottles of mineral water which we accepted rather than hassle the French/English battle. After we placed our dinner orders, a waiter arrived with bread & butter. I asked if we might have plates, pantomining that there were none upon which to put our bread, although there were butter knives, etc. He nodded affirmatively, but never brought the plates. Once our meals arrived, we requested a second glass of wine from another waiter. He also nodded, pointed at our glasses and disappeared and that was the last we saw of him. The food was nicely plated (Beware if you order fish you get the WHOLE fish head, tail, bones & all!)And it was good, but not worth the price compared to other restaurants nearby, and certainly not up to the promise of the setting. Maybe it was Sunday night--second line staff? I don't know, but we didn't go again.

This area has many pleasant eateries in just about every price range. Le Pitaya is at the top range and is a very lovely setting in the best hotel in the area (next to a beautifully landscaped pool). But the food simply didn't measure up to the hype. A prix-fixe 3 courser is much hyped, but is not in fact that good a value. The food we had was almost off-putting. The appetizer for the prix fixe turned out to be a small undistinguished green salad (with a fancy name). Each of us had a fish for the main dish, and the pieces of each were small and quite undistinguished. Both were accompanied by a very strange shredded papaya dish that almost drowned the fish and seemed little more than an exotic slaw when it came down to it. They never brought the requested dessert for the prix fixe, but at least the mango ice cream was tasty. We really cannot recommend this place, particularly in light of the considerable choice the area offers with a short walk.

After a delayed flight getting in to Martinique, over an hour in line waiting to pick up our rental car, and getting lost on our way to our hotel, we dragged ourselves in to Le Pitaya at around 10 pm exhausted, cranky, and starving. Our server could not have sweeter! She was so kind and helpful. Our meals were delicious. I had the scallops, which came with caviar and I believe conch. It was absolutely delicious! My husband had the shrimp tempura, which was also very good. The service, the atmosphere, and the delicious food helped turn around a grumpy start to our vacation. The only negatives were portions were small and the prices were a bit high for what you got. Otherwise, great meal!!
