Villa Finistere is a very pleasant villa located on the seaside road right behind Flamands beach on the northern side of Saint Bart’s.. It is less than a 1 block walk to the beach public access. I booked the villa from the United States. A lease was provided and a signed copy was returned to me after payment.
The main house consists of a raised single level house, one stairway up from ground. There is a bedroom with queen bed, 1 bathroom, living room, dining room and well appointed kitchen. It has all modern conveniences: microwave, a gas, manual light oven and burners, dishwasher and refrigerator. The refrigerator was stocked on arrival with a very nice welcome assortment of food and drinks. There are zone air conditioners in every room but the kitchen and bathroom which are very much up to the task of air conditioning in the Caribbean. There is a small pool and very nice pool deck and outdoor area. There is Puerto Rican Direct satellite TV with HBO, a flat screen, an audio system, and fairly reliable but slow wireless internet which couldn’t be used much further than the living or dining room. There is a guest house next to the pool, which we never entered as it was not used for our stay. On the ground floor is storage, utility rooms, and the outdoor shower for use after the beach. There is housekeeping 6 days out of 7, except for holidays, which was quite good. There is a responsive maintenance person as well (one of the trees had to be trimmed back from the roof as it was making contact). There is a large gated driveway for parking.
The villa is well located but it is very helpful to have a car. There is easy access to all parts of the island. There is a good bakery / coffee place that is on the way to St. Jean / Gustavia. There are multiple restaurants and fancy hotels within easy walking distance.
Next to the property, but not too bothersome as it is screened by some trees, is the parking lot for the Hotel Saint-Barth Isle De France. There was not much activity at night at the parking lot.
Beach equipment was somewhat lacking. No umbrellas, and the chairs were quite low riding. There was some sort of wind blocker which was never used. The boogie board provided was great, however. Beach umbrellas seem to be something of an issue in St. Bart’s actually, as I went looking for one and all the stores I tried (and I tried several) were selling real junk.
The shower in the bathroom is an odd handheld unit that is very difficult to position if you don’t want to use it as a handheld unit.
There was no guest access for laundry. There were plenty of towels and linen provided for the house. The beach towels could have been a little bigger and more than 1 set should be given at a time.
All in all, a very nice villa and a comfortable stay. Flamands is a beautiful beach and is literally steps away, it was nice to be able to lie out on the pool deck or on the beach whenever one wanted. It is easy to cook for yourself at the villa.
Recommended. I would return.
