The food/spice vendors are great, although they all sell the exact same thing. It becomes redundant quickly. The booths that sell trinkets are all pretty worthless. Just a bunch of junky stuff, like cheap key chains, fridge magnets, etc. You can walk through the whole thing in an hour. The lady that cut open the coconut for us was fabulous. You need to do that while you're there.

We visited Castries and the market we walked all around the market and bagged a few bargains it is touristy but an experience all the same. My lasting memories are sights I cannot unsee so if you care about animals at all do not go.

Castries market is constantly busy bustling the foods on offer are local produce many sold in $5 bags . No price change ! The spices on offer are vast please do purchase a few samples along with a cocoa stick local produce . The market has many souvenirs on offer don't pay the price walk away they will call you back . There are many small bars surrounding the market here is where you will experience the local life of the dwellers of Castries .
You will hear some horror stories amongst these reviews just be careful look smart don't act scared . There are always police officers on duty .
Castries is old and smelly in areas and the country need to fix many issues here but it's the cultured hub of the Island .

In summary, this market place is mainly a tourist trap. If you are into looking at endless T-shirts and other souvenirs, then you may like it. One part of the market had spices and food items and was somewhat more interesting, but some of these vendors were too pushy. If you don't spend too much time looking, then they may leave you alone.

But my advice is a quick walk through if you just want to see it, or don't waste your time at all. There are better things to do.

The market is very crowded and hot. Expect the prices to be high and be prepared to put up some hard bartering. There is some really nice carvings and paintings but you must hold tight to your own price, they mostly don't let you walk away so if you stay strong on the price you want they will give in. The prices are not in Eastern Caribbean dollars but in US dollars. I did manage to make a few nice purchases to bring home.
