We first started looking into this property several years ago, and when we decided to make a trip to St. Lucia, we chose Villa Beach Cottages mainly as a result of reviews on this website.

We were impressed with this property even before we got there. We had several e-mails with Neva in the front office - mostly inquiries about specific rooms, to inquiries about the availablily of various foods in the local supermarkets, to arranging for a "starter pack." Our questions were all answered promptly and thoroughly.

As promised, a cab was waiting for us upon arrival at UVF. Our driver was full of useful info, and was a good ambassador for St. Lucia. We met with Colin (the owner/operator) the next morning, and he provided us with many helpful tips about things to do and see, restaurants to go to etc. around the island.

Our room was outstanding. We had a "deluxe 2 bedroom" suite that was perhaps the largest 2 bedroom suite we've ever stayed in. This included 3 King-size beds, a kitchen that had a refrigerator, stove, oven and microwave, along with a TV that had 40+ channels (mostly English) from the USA, Canada and South America. To stock the kitchen, there are 2 grocery stores ("Super J" and "Mega J") within a 10 minute walk/~$4 EC taxi ride of the property. "Super J" is a supermarket that is much like a small Safeway in Canada/USA with almost everything we needed. "Mega J" is a bulk store, much like a small Costco (you don't need a membership either!) that has food, liquor, a pharmacy, a bakery, electronics, furniture etc.

The most pleasant aspects of our stay were our interactions with the staff. Colin has tried to make this property very "family friendly," and this is evident in the attitudes of the staff as well. We were always greeted with a warm smile, and a genuine sense of helpfulness, be it from the front office staff (Neva, Nadia and the others), the security staff, Austin, and especially from our primary housekeeper Clara. They seemed to genuinely care about making our stay a pleasant one, as compared to just simply "doing a job."

The property only has about 20 units, and it never seemed busy or crowded even though it appeared to be mostly full. There were seldom more than 6 or 7 people on the pool deck, and even the public beach in front of the property was uncrowded. There are a few "vendors/peddlers" who work the beach in front of the property trying to sell everything from souvenirs to tours of the island. When I told them I wasn't interested, they said "thanks," and when we saw them again the next day, they asked how our trip was going but never tried to sell anything again! I even ran into one of them at the Super J and he asked how my family was doing! How nice is that!?

What more can be said? Villa Beach Cottages met and exceeded our expectations in every way!

This facility was well kept and the employees were helpful and kind. In fact...the whole island was full of friendly, kind people. There is a grocery store and restaurant within walking distance and a small island that you can kiyak to. There was a bus stop across the street and I highly recommend travelling by bus if possible (taxis can cost 20 dollars for a 10 minute car ride while buses cost 1.75 EC for about the same (conversion is about 75 cents US). The folks at the front desk will call you a cab if you want, but no guarantees on the rate. When you arrive at your destination the fee may be much higher than you expected...we paid 20 US dollars one way and only 11 US dollars on the way back. If you are interested in travelling to the south side of the island (mud baths, drive-in volcano, cocoa plantation) the owner will arrange a trip for a very reasonable fee. I prefered snorkelling in Rodney bay, however, where some local guys let me spearfish with them...what a blast. We left our belongings on the beach both at Villa Beach and Rodney Bay and nobody bothered them. What a great hotel in a great location!

My wife and I absolutely loved our trip to St. Lucia. This was largely due to the top notch service we received at Villa Beach cottages from start to finish. My communications via email with Nadia, who works at the reception desk, were characterized by prompt and pleasant replies with accurate, useful information. We picked a Deluxe suite for our honeymoon and the room was amazing. The kitchen contained everything we needed to make our own meals and everything was cleaned daily. The only downside to the room was that at night we could hear various lizards chirping but we were able to drown them out rather well with the radio the room was supplied with and we got a good night's sleep every night.

We met with the owner, Colin, and had a delightful and informative conversation about the island's history and the various activities and places we could experience. The location is nice in that a grocery store, bank and several restaurants are within walking distance. Additionally there is a restaurant right next door called The Wharf, which although the outside is a bit weathered, was one of the best part's of our trip as the restaurant's co-owner Lisa was an exceptionally pleasant conversationalist and the food was not only excellent but fairly priced compared to other restaurants around the island. Our taxi cab driver Claudius was a fount of trivia and information about various parts of the island and was instrumental in helping us truly experience the local culture. Overall an excellent resort with exceptional staff!

We had such a great time in St. Lucia, and we're so glad we stayed at the Villa Beach Cottages. Colin and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and well appointed, and the quiet, gorgeous beach was exactly what we were looking for. We ended up renting a car and, although it was a little harrowing at first, we're so glad that we had the chance to see St. Lucia at our own pace, avoid big crowds, and go to some of the places that the tour busses don't take you. A wonderful trip!

Room Tip: We stayed in the two bedroom deluxe suite with another couple and loved the view.

We looked at all of the "inclusives", but in the end, chose Villa Beach Cottages after we took a look at it on Google Maps. While the others appear to be "right on the water" in their pictures, this one really is! Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable; our view spectacular. The staff was friendly and helpful, and assisted us with booking several side trips during our stay. (The hotel works with some great tour guides and taxi drivers!)

The hotel is smaller (only 20 cottages), which gives it a more intimate, personal feeling. We spoke with Canadian family that was there (three generations), and had the feeling that it was as good of a choice for them as a family as it was for us a couple.

The location was great, too -- a 5-7 minute walk to the grocery store (we opted to make our our breakfasts and snacks in our full kitchen), and right between Castries and Rodney Bay (each a short 10 minute bus ride away.)

I have to admit that we are VERY picky -- and can assure you that we would return to this same hotel in a heartbeat! Very highly recommended.
