My sister and I stayed at Stonefield for 4 nights in January. We were upgraded from a garden view villa to the Tamarind, which was really lovely. The view was outstanding as was the private plunge pool. I have no complaints about our room. It had everything we needed and was extremely clean. The bed was really comfortable and I really enjoyed the outdoor shower. The service at Stonefield was outstanding. Although we had trouble with the cell phone they provided us with, the cleaning staff, the restaurant staff, and especially the ladies at the front desk were extraordinarily helpful. They gave us a great restaurant recommendation for Soufriere (Gee's) and helped us constantly. As for activities, we took a hike on the tet paul trail (very easy). The views were fantastic. We then did the 1/2 day sail with another couple, which was maybe the highlight of the trip. We also took the free shuttle to Jalousie beach. We spent $20 to sit on the "nice" part of the beach. Well worth it. The only problem we had was the shuttle on the way back, which was late. But that's really the only complaint for 4 days. We really enjoyed Stonefield and found it to be quite affordable. It is probably not as luxurious as Jalousie or some of the other resorts, but we really enjoyed it. The spa was also very nice and professionally run. The resort is isolated but so are all of the other resorts on this part of the island. For me, that was an advantage. Also, we loved the cats.

We spent a week at Stonefield and found it to be everything we wanted. The villa was gorgeous, the plunge pool was perfect and that staff accomodated every request with a smile and excellent results. I loved that it was off the path of all the tourists and larger resorts up north. I wanted privacy, gorgeous views, relaxation and a bit of rum. And this is precisely what I found at Stonefield. I also loved the mango tree restaurant. Every meal was delicious and fresh with ingredients sometimes coming from the trees on property. Amazing experience!

We spent two weeks in St. Lucia, the second at Stonefield for a change of scenery and tempo after a week at Windjammer further north. We stayed in the Ginger Lily villa, with a wonderful view of Petit Piton, the ocean, our own plunge pool, a hammock, comfy lounges, etc. From registration to checkout, we really enjoyed our experience at Stonefield. The staff is friendly and efficient (helped me track down the local doctor to help with the strep throat I'd been suffering from for a week), the Mango Tree Restaurant was very good (breakfast consistently yummy, likewise dinner (we had only one lunch there, also good). Room was spacious, housekeeping prompt and thorough, pool mtc good as well. We visited each of the local beaches: favorite was Jalousie - splurged to pay for one of their cushy, marshmallow-like lounge chairs ($20/person) and received watermelon juice and an afternoon confection to boot. We visited Diamond Waterfall and Morne Coubaril estates. Had dinner out two nights for a change of scenery (at Dasheen at Ladera - awesome view and nice service, but food not extraordinary, and at Bocoun, which was really exceptional (chocolate themed dinner). Stonefield is a perfect getaway for couples - privacy, quiet, away from the crowds. We don't often feel like we want to revisit places we've been ('cause there are so many other places in the world we'd like to see), but Stonefield would be on the short list of "let's go back there". Alas didn't get time to try the Bamboo Door Spa. Enjoyed the Thursday night limbo/fire eating performers and the barbeque with local foods as well. Happy to recommend Stonefield.

Room Tip: We loved Ginger Lily. I believe all the 1 BR villas may be air conditioned now, but ask for sure.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for four nights before moving to one of the Sandals resorts up north. It is in a great location right outside of Soufriere, from which the rainforest, Pitons, Sulphur Springs drive-in volcano, Diamond Falls botanical garden, and Jalousie and Anse Chastanet beaches are a short drive away. The rooms and amenities are not as good as what you would find in a 5-star luxury resort, but you do get your own very private patio and pool, and considering the prices of other resorts on this island, I think they are a good value for this price point. The view was great, service was particularly good, and we left feeling relaxed and happy.

ROOMS: We ended up staying in Orchid for one night and Hibiscus for the remaining three nights, which was an upgrade from the villa that we had originally booked. Orchid was a large suite-like villa with a full kitchen, separate dining/living room, and infinity-edged pool, but it had no air conditioning and only window screens rather than solid windows. The temperature was fine without A/C, but we found the lack of solid windows to be a problem at night because the bugs and frogs (or whatever else was out there) are extremely loud. Hibiscus was a smaller one-studio-room villa with a half kitchen in the bedroom, but it had solid windows and A/C. The solid windows blocked out most of the sound and we found our nights there to be much more pleasant. Both villas had swimmable pools (larger than what I was expecting), and Hibiscus had a great view of the ocean and a partial view of the Petit Piton.

FOOD: We had all of our breakfasts and a few of our dinners at the Mango Tree Restaurant. The restaurant has a stunning view of the ocean and the Petit Piton. Breakfast was OK; we found a couple of the entrees at dinner to be delicious and the rest of the food fairly good. We had one dinner at Dasheene restaurant over at Ladera; the food there was equally expensive and, in my opinion, not as good (although it is worth going there for the view). The food at Mango Tree was certainly much better than what we later had as part of the all-inclusive at Sandals.

LOCATION AND EXCURSIONS: We spent a half day exploring the Piton waterfall, Diamond Falls botanical garden, and Sulphur Springs volcano, most of another day climbing the Gros Piton, and a full day at Jalousie and Anse Chastanet beaches. A great plus was that everything was very close-by; a minus was that they are not so close as to be walkable, and the shortest taxi rides still cost $12 USD. You are given a cell phone upon check-in that you can use to call the front desk and arrange taxi transportation from other places on the island. We found this to be extremely helpful and convenient. The one unpleasant thing was that we did not ask for the price of the Gros Piton hike beforehand; we ended up doing the hike together with one other couple and we were charged $170 USD. Assuming that the other couple was also charged $170, the total charge of $340 for the four of us is an exorbitantly high price for one round-trip taxi and one guide. If you do choose to do some excursions with the hotel, it is a good idea to be a bit smarter than we were about these things.

SERVICE: The one thing that stood out to us most of all was the service. The entire staff was very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. They helped us move our luggage when we had to switch rooms. We accidentally left a jacket behind during this room switch and only found out a few days after we had left the hotel, and they were able to deliver it to us at the airport. The front desk staff served as a helpful and very personal concierge, arranging our taxi transport and tours of the area and helping us to make reservations at restaurants and to contact local attractions. When unexpected things came up in our plans, they were always able to help us with a plan B. This sort of personal service was what made our stay a truly enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Get a room with solid windows.

My husband and I stayed at Stonefield in January 2012. We choose Stonefield after much research and on a recommendation of a local travel agent. I have to say that Stonefield was everything we wanted. We stayed in the Orchid Villa and had an amazing view of the Piton from our plunge pool. The villa does not have AC but we never had any problems with it being too hot. The resort was beautiful and quiet. We rarely saw other guests other than at meals and found that people pretty much kept to themselves. As far as no TV...we never missed it at all. It would be nice to have WiFi in the villas as we did need to use our laptop daily but going to the main pool area usually wasn't too much of a problem. The food at the Mango restaurant was very good...we are vegetarians and had no trouble with the menu. The chef accommodated our needs very nicely. The staff were very helpful, any questions we had were easily answered by the front desk. We were given a complimentary cell phone but never used it. I would recommend Stonefield for people who want a quiet relaxing vacation and are not into the party scene.

Couple of things to keep in mind when choosing Stonefield...Stonefield is not directly on a beach. They have a shuttle bus that takes you to Jalousie beach everyday. Arrangements are made though the front desk. You can walk into Soufiere from Stonefield...it is about 10 minutes into town and 20 minutes back (uphill). Be sure to use the mosquito netting around the bed. We didn't think there were any bugs but after two nights of not using it had a few bites so used it after that and no more problems. There are geccos and tree frogs that live in the outdoor showers. At night they can be loud...if you are a light sleeper then earplugs would be a must. it took us 2 days to get used to it then we were fine.

We definitely enjoyed our stay and are considering returning again next year.

A very enjoyable and relaxing stay, Stonefield is ideal if you want a quiet and peaceful location, staff very friendly and helpful and food in the Mango tree was good although we did cater for ourselves occasionally (3 supermarkets in Soufriere). Nice island, felt very safe at all times.

We arrived at Stonefield following a lovely 40 minute drive from Vieux Fort. The location is great, with a view to the petit piton on one side and the town of Soufriere on the other. Very quiet, green relaxed environment. Reception was quick in the center cabin and we were than escorted to our room. Room itself was very big and included a great balcony facing the valley (with an awesome hammock) and a nice little private pool facing the valley. There was a large nicely equipped kitchen, big bedroom and outdoor shower. One thing pretty easily noticeable is that the bathroom is not closed by a full wall from the rest of the “apartment” and connected to both bedroom and kitchen via mutual walls, BAD planning IMO.Furthermore closets really left bad smell on cloths, we left things in the suitcases.

Our issues with Stonefield revolved around the “fine touches”, attitude and the dining. We found the onsite restaurant to be of rather low quality although very presumptuous on both price (min $100 / couple without wine for 2 course dinner) and description of items. Location although offering a great view was never really sealed against the strong winds and rain which are very common in St. Lucia.
Staff here seemed to really want to move fast “in out”, and the music was TERRIBLE, why in the world would you keep playing the best of Barbara Streisand and Paul Young when the Caribbean is blessed with so much good music. Staff claimed “that’s what guests want’, yah right!
We felt the room REALLY lacked amenities (very low level shower gel and shampoo that were not even refilled daily), water heater did not work 3 out of 4 nights even after we commented. No Wi FI in the room (they claim its policy for our relaxation but honestly not a big fan of sitting at the outdoor reception or restaurant in the rain / wind getting emails)
The vibe in this place was that they are “cheap” , for $500 / night you can expect very nice toiletries, something more than two supermarket cookies for a welcome and some kind of discount on the super over priced meals or spa.
The hotel is rather far from the beach (Jalousie is the best around and the road is super complicated and sometime impossible to drive, during rain) .
Jalousie charge $20 / day / person for beach chairs and can’t even give parasols. However the beach is beautiful and food there is much better than Stonefield. We would expect Stonefield to have a real agreement in place for their guests to get complementary access to beach chairs.
To summarize:
Very nice place but unless there is an attitude change I recommend to look for better value on the Island. For example see my review of TiKaya.

Room Tip: View is great from all I think but the in room pool was not needed (cold) in Febuary
