“Amazing place to Stay”
Reviewed July 29, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Last month, my family and friends flew to Saint Lucia for a week's stay at Caille Blanc Villa. Our group consisted of four adults and five kids (ages 6 through 15). To sum up all of what is about to follow, the home is amazing, the staff are incredible and the view is beautiful.

Before departing we had several conversations with the home's owner, Owen Coleman. Mr. Coleman provided a lot of information and guidance that proved to be accurate and valuable. On his website for the villa there is a "FAQ" that may be a little dated, but still offered a wealth of information. We actually referred to this document many times during our stay on the island.

There was ample sleeping room for our group of nine. Each of the villas was appointed uniquely and offered individualistic charm. The Pool Suite was closest to the amazing swimming pool and had the best climate control. The Grotto Suite was below the Pool and was a bit more isolated from the rest of the group. The Temple Suite was decorated and had additional sleeping areas below in the gym/workout area. Bouganvilla was probably the most private and smallest. While Sunset was comfortable and slightly larger.

Bedding arrangements varied between the suites. Most suites had a large bed (either King or Queen) and then a daybed, just right for children. Air conditioning was available in each suite but only in Temple and Pool were you really able to isolate off the room from the outside environment. In the other rooms, the AC just cooled off the fresh breeze. During our stay in June, this was more than adequate for each room except for maybe the Grotto as it didn’t have the best access to the ocean breezes. Many nights we would go to sleep a little warm but wake up in the morning almost cold. Sleeping under the mosquito nets was a must during our stay. The mosquitos were a very minor annoyance but still present in the evenings. Two of the suites have totally exposed “facilities” in an island fashion. The shower and the toilet are open-aired with full view of the Pintons and the bay one hundred meters below.

A key feature to this property is the amazing infinity pool. We spent hours each day in or by the pool. Our kids all swim well so there was little worry but the pool’s maximum depth was about five feet. The pool was lit in the evening and it created an unforgettable scene with Petit Piton standing across the bay.

While the property itself deserves more accolades than I can heap on it, our praise for the house’s staff exceeds the home itself. Mr. Coleman provided us with an example shopping list a few weeks before we traveled. The list provided was for a group larger than our own. We made a few minor adjustments but kept close to the original list. This supplied Chef Marilyn and Assistant Chef Francesca the materials they needed to work their magic. Each meal that they prepared was wonderful. The food’s presentation and flavors matched the million-dollar view. They would show up and make breakfast, prepare lunch and then prepare dinner. They normally left around 3:00 and so we finished cooking the evening meal (grilling of meats or heating the vegetables and soups).

House Keeper Paulia took care of the setting the table and dishes. She cleaned and made up each room daily and attended to the numerous towels used during the day’s water activities.

Mr. Curtis showed up at 6:00 every morning to attend to the pool and the grounds. He spent hours each day sweeping and cleaning the outside spaces removing the buds and leaves that fall from the property’s amazing landscaping.

Mr. Albert would show up every evening at 6:00 to act as the night watchman for this and a neighboring property. He tended to the lights and outdoor fans and secured things when everyone went to sleep. He was excellent with the kids bringing them trinkets and teaching them games.

Mr. James was the driver and while he wasn’t really part of the house staff, his role in our wonderful vacation was critical. He greeted us at the airport and drove us to the villa. From there, he would show up at agreed upon times and transport us to and from the various activities we wished to do. His rates were more than reasonable and the service was great. While renting a car was something we did consider when planning this trip, I’m glad we elected not to do it. Many of the roads are unpaved and narrow. The rain and mud make for tricky maneuvers on cliff side roads - Mr. James took care of that with minimal anxiety.

Each staff member was friendly and helpful but the best part was that they went about their various tasks and duties without distracting from our relaxation and privacy. If you asked a question they would take the time to sit and chat. If you needed most anything, they could provide it for you, but when you didn’t engage them they disappeared back into their work. It was wonderful.

I’ve traveled all over the world and to many beautiful places in the Caribbean, and I can say with little hesitation that Caille Blanc is among the nicest properties I have ever been privileged enough to stay in.

Liked best: House, Staff, View, Pool, ...everything?
Liked least: If you go there with hopes of conducting some business via WiFi (VPN) it's likely not to happen. The connection is too slow to support much of anything. This is petty but it's the only negative I can think of.

“The best villa rental yet!”

Let me start by saying that our family tries not to go back to the same place twice. We travel a lot and believe the world is to large to repeat the same place. Now having said that, when considering Caille Blanc, it has been a unanimous decision that that we need to go back soon! We understood after doing research (I do our research) that St. Lucia is mountainous, without the beaches of say, Eleuthera. We understood The Pitons were a World Heritage site and felt they would be awesome to experience. I called to find out more info and realized I was talking to the owner. Hmmm, that's different. I usually speak to an agency. Mr. Coleman was wonderful on the phone, explained everything and was very accommodating. We booked the villa and couldn't wait for the nice hot sun. Well, we knew the Pitons must be gorgeous, but what we didn't count on was the absolute beauty of the Caille Blanc Villa. It is jaw dropping, literally jaw dropping! You are front row center to one of the most beautiful natural views of the world. The villa itself belongs in Architectural Digest. Each bedroom (in it's own separate building) is spectacular! Bathrooms were equally beautiful with some open to the outside (with appropriate screening). Granite, marble, stone, imported tiles, fountains, flowers galore. A 60 foot endless pool overlooking the Pitons and cove. Hummingbirds everywhere! Rainbows! The staff is so professional and caring. There was a driver to meet us at the airport and available to hire for anywhere you wanted to go. The cooking staff is quite capable of doing whatever you wish (with a smile I might add) and the cleaning and grounds are impeccable. We hiked a Piton, took a catamaran ride around the island and snorkeled. One night we had dinner at a very famous restaurant on the island. The menu and view being recommended as wonderful. Yes, the cooking and service was wonderful, but we were the ones that had the better view at the villa! At one point I asked my husband if he feels strange that we are not going to the beach everyday. He said "Honey, if the best beach we have ever been on was down there (pointing to the land below), I would still want to be up here." We were a family of 4 (boys 19 & 21) in the clouds and we were so content. I am truly jealous of Mr. Owen Coleman, for he had the foresight to purchase this spot and build this incredible villa. I am also truly grateful that he is allowing others to experience this beauty and peace. Thank you Caille Blanc. We will certainly be back, sooner than later! (The pictures I have included are mostly outside shots. The bedrooms look exactly as the website portrays).

“Mind-Blowing Stay...Incredible Staff”

Our stay at Caille Blanc was nothing short of perfect. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by Marilyn and staff, who are the most sincerely kind, competent and attentive people you could ask for. They consistently went above and beyond any expectations in terms of cooking, special requests and keeping the villa absolutely beautiful.

The villa doesn't just rely on the spectacular room designs and views of the Pitons (we'll let the photos speak for themselves - bravo to owner Owen Coleman) - it's kept in immaculate shape, which takes hard work. It's kept safe and maintained by Albert and Curtis, respectively. However, those two guys went out of their way to make friends with our families and especially with our 8 and 5 year-old nephews, who adored them.

Marilyn and Francisca consistently made the best meals we've had in any Caribbean country, it was something special to spend time with them in the luxurious kitchen. They even showed my husband, a poor cook, how to make a great veggie dish.

Paulea was so friendly and fantastic. She took such respectful care of the place that you never forgot how lucky you were to be at Caille Blanc.

James, who is the villa's go-to driver, never hesitated to pick us up and take us to the many activity spots nearby (fishing, ziplining, nearby resorts, food runs to town, etc.) He even went out of his way and gave us priority to pick up my grandfather who needed a last-minute pickup.

The villa is a 10-minute ride to town, where you may do groceries to stock the kitchen or board a fishing boat for a deep sea adventure (Mystic Man Tours). It's also about a 15-minute walk to Anse Chastenet, where you may relax by the beach, grab a drink or set up activities such as scuba diving. It's within 20 minutes of Boucan, where we had our wedding reception. Sugar Beach and Ladera are also within 20 minutes.

Overall, the beauty of the location and the villa itself are going to be very hard to top. The only thing that may possibly be better are the people who work there.
