We've been on several catamaran trips on St. Martin over the last many years. We had much more fun on the other boats. The boat, Too Rum Punch, had been punched a few too many times, we think. The crew was robotic and the fun was forced.

Hello,

We have emailed the reviewer to ascertain the day of participation and resort visited to confirm reliability of the review. To date we had not had a reply.
We have actively question activity desks and passengers returning from tours and only received compliments and good comments concerning Too Rhum Punch and her crew.
We must assume the author had a off day.

Yours sincerely,

Prickly pear and Anguilla

First, let me say that the entire experience on the boat was definitely five out of five - the crew is amazing - especially Anke, the bartender - she used to own a bar in Amsterdam and knows how to show folks a good time, as well as how to take care of folks that aren't having a good time - top notch. Drinks were good (except for the Champagne - it was undrinkable - bitter, even - and I actually like champagne, even very dry champagne)

Prickly pear is spectacular - the lunch a Johnno's is excellent - Mahi is better than the chicken - I've never seen a prettier beach and I've been to a bunch. Snorkeling wasn't much to write home about, but I did see some cool fish and anemones. There wasn't much of Anguilla we actually got to see - it was a very rough day and nowhere really to moor that was acceptable. We saw Anguilla from the boat a little - never stepped foot there, so not really a Prickly pear/Anguilla trip - even on a good day, the focus is clearly on prickly pear - not Anguilla - might be best to advertise this better.

What we didn't like: everything I had a beef with was before and after the actual trip. We were picked up at 730am - which is very early on vacation - were the first picked up - picked up another dozen or so folks on the way to the boat. I assumed, wrongly, that being subjected to a 90 minute bus ride on the way there, we'd be the first dropped off in the afternoon - I was wrong. Adding in the "travel time," the trip was just shy of 12 hours, over three of which was sitting in a van - way too much time. I didn't mind being picked up first and picking up others - I did mind also being the last one dropped off. If you are staying in the Orient beach area, I'd rethink this tour - or at least bargain to provide your own transfers.

Most importantly - when we arrived at the dock to check in - after that 90 minute bus ride, we were told that it was going to be rough on the way home from Anguilla and that if we are prone to sea sickness, we would get sea sick. She was very honest that they knew this the night before and just didn't call any of us - they offered to let us cancel and take us back at no charge and refund our deposits.... BUT after 90 minutes on that van, we'd already spent about two precious vacation hours so we decided to stick it out. I also asked the woman if there was a place we could get sea sickness meds close by or if they provided them - she replied in the negative to both requests and really demonstrated no understanding of this issue (my husband gets really seasick - he had premedicated with meclizine, but with the conditions as described, no way it was going to be enough). In the end, a couple of other folks had some dramamine that they shared with my husband and he was fine, but the trip was far from what we expected. Can't blame the crew for the weather and waves, but I can blame the company for not notifying us in advance when they did know in advance. We most certainly would have cancelled had we known, but after a fairly grueling bus ride around the island, we felt sort of trapped.

Overall, we enjoyed our day - but wouldn't do it again - wouldn't spend almost 12 hours to see marginal snorkeling and glimpse at Anguilla from a boat. The crew made this trip enjoyable - made the best out of very bad conditions.

Dear Sara,

We appreciate your comments as feedback is helpful to us in improving our product.

Two of our tours depart from Phillipsburg which does reduce the transfer time to 30 minutes.
Normal conditions are 10 - 16 knots of wind and 1 - 1.6 meters of swell/wave. In stronger winds or sea we do issue a seasick sea condition alert before departure. If conditions are unsuitable we advise where possible the night before and or cancel the tour. Conditions can change at very short notice with passing weather. If your husband suffers from chronic seasick as mentioned if would be advisable to have seasick pills on hand. We cannot issue pills to passengers for legal reasons. I.e an allergic reaction.

All the tours from Dutch St Maarten leave from Simpsonbay area so the hotel location may in some instances be a disadvantage.
Your point on private transport is a choice which may well suite some visitors and we will look at encouraging this option to the more distance locations.
Thank for the compliments on our crew and please contact the writer when back on island as you may well enjoy our Eco tour or Farewell tour with less time travel and a better rating.

This excursion was the most fun thing we did on our action packed holiday to St. Marten. Eagle picked us up at our hotel, right on time, delivered us to the marina and gave us a great all day catamaran tour of the island. Water was choppy but they kept us safe and showed us a great time. Highly recommended.

We took a day trip to Prickly Pear and Anguilla aboard the "Quality Time" catamaran from Simpson Bay, and we had a wonderful time.

The crew was amazing, very attentive and ready to help without being annoying. The drinks and food aboard were tasty and plentiful, the boat itself is very clean and comfortable. There are two seats right above the bows where you feel like you just ride the waves. They sail with the engine off whenever possible, so you can enjoy a quiet ride.

Snorkeling on Prickly Pear was fun, saw a bunch of colorful fish and coral. On the way back saw turtles and some flying fish in the sea. Lunch on the Prickly Pear was nice, I recommend taking mahi mahi. You can have a BBQ chicken anywhere, but the fish is local, fresh and tasty.

Overall, amazing experience, would recommend to anyone. Chances are, you will get sun burns, most of our party did. Use sunscreen often, even though it feels like you don't need it.

The worst part, if I had to pick one, actually was getting to and from the harbor. An hour in the van twisting through the broken roads and hills gave us more motion sickness than the day on the boat. If they say they pick you up at 7:30 and they sail at 9, you will spend more than an hour in that van.So you may want to drive yourself or take a taxi. There was plenty of parking by their site in Simpson Bay.
