My wife and I have been frequent visitors to St. Maarten for over 20 years, most recently via cruise ships. We typically rent a car and visit our old haunts......Little Bay, Sunset Beach, Mullet Bay, Orient Beach, Simpson Bay, Oyster Bay, etc.
This year we decided to take the water taxi into Phillipsburg, walk the promenade and enjoy the Great Bay beach which incidentally is one of the finest beaches on the Island. The first place we wanted to see was Pasanggrahan - the old Dutch Governors House. This was our favorite guesthouse restaurant and bar. It has suffered major damage and is in the process of being rebuilt. The majority of the waterfront suffered damage but it is still beautiful and certainly needs tourists dollars to help with the rebuilding. We ended up at Nu Love and were very happy with our choice. We had two beach chairs, an umbrella and either beer or tropical drinks for a very modest price. We decided to spend a few minutes at the bar and ordered a seafood appetizer which was superb. We also had the opportunity to chat with the owners who are French Canadians. They are a lovely couple who exemplify the good will and spirit of St. Maarten. Thank you Andre.
We will be back to Phillipsburg to celebrate our 55th Wedding anniversary in 2020 and hope to see you again. You are the best of the best!
