On the final day of a week long trip, a friend and I were planning a final crawl through the Simpson Bay neighborhood to cap off an amazing vacation. When we realized our initial destination was not open for Happy Hour, we meandered down the street in search of an open spot for a quick drink or two. We stumbled upon The Palms, apparently just opening up for business. We were greeted by the owners, a couple of Canadian transplants, and ordered a sangria, planning on killing time until the night scene (such as it was during the offseason on a Wednesday) started. That was around 4:30.
We didn't leave until 11.
The owners were supremely attentive from the moment we hit the bar, unassuming yet happily willing to chat. My wrap was delicious, though I regret not getting the Drunken Ribs my friend ordered. Neither plate lasted long. Drinks were served fast and poured well, but we never felt hurried or pressured into ordering another. Though I cannot account for the engaged couples taste for hockey teams, I will say that the entire experience was a true highlight of one of the best trips I've had the pleasure of taking. If I'm ever back on the island, it will be my first stop.
