We selected the hotel for a 2 night stay before going on the SeaDreamI and are having a wonderful time. The GM upgraded us to a beautiful apartment and all the staff are extremely friendly and polite. Accommodation is very clean and in great condition. Beautiful pool and Maho beach is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. One one side of our Room/Appartment we see the ocean and on the other side we see Maho Beach and the famous runway. Highly recommend the Hotel Alegria for short and long stays.

Room tip: Go for a Studio if you stay longer

We needed a hotel to stay in overnight as we were flying to St. Barts the following day and arrived too late into St. Maarten to catch a connection. We chose this since it was close to the airport. Check-in was quick and easy but the hotel just gave us a feeling of uneasy. For one night we were absolutely able to manage but not for longer than that. Certain parts looked to be under construction. The room was clean and the bed was decent, but no safe in the room for valuables. When traveling to St. Barts next or if I choose to stay in St. Maarten for an extended period of time I will definitely choose a different hotel. If you need something somewhat affordable for an overnight stay in St. Maarten this might be a good choice but not more than one night. Close to Maho Beach.

Dear Guest,
Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your comment. Somehow the initial response I sent in at the time did not get posted.
We thank you for taking the time to complete the online survey and were sorry to learn that we did not exceed your expectations during your stay at our hotel.
We appreciate you mentioning the lack of a safe in your room which it seemed was not installed at the time of the renovations and upgrades last year. Please rest assured that it was installed and that we double checked that all of our 78 rooms have a safe for we understand how important it is to be able to store your valuables.
You will be happy to know that the remodeling at the Sunset Beach Bar and the soon to be opened Refuge are near completion and a welcome addition to our property.
We do hope that you will give us another chance and look forward to welcoming you back to Alegria on your next trip to St. Maarten or while catching a connection to your destination.
Sincerely,
Karen Hana

Hotel was pretty cool the room overlooked the beach, room services was good, the pool was a little blah -
Buying drinks do add up since this place isn't all inclusive so I'd recommend going to the store ((which is located at the entrance of the beach)) and grabbing some drinks and snacks. This beach isn't the "lay down and relax" kind because your able to see the planes land it's very noisy and sand is flying all over the place. But all and all this is a great place to stay and visit.

Dear Kah,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to the online questionnaire following your stay at Alegria, we really appreciate your feedback and great comments about the hotel and the beach at Sunset. The close proximity take off and landing of the planes at Princess Juliana International Airport has become an attraction of its own. For just laying on the beach, we like to recommend Mullet Bay Beach, just a mile away, or one of the other 37 beach around the island.
You will be happy to know that the remodeling and upgrading of the Sunset Beach Bar and Refuge will soon be finalized. This new and exiting concept in dining and entertainment will be a welcome addition to our property.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Alegria in the near future.
Warm regards from the Friendly Island of St. Maarten,

We booked this place thinking it was a hotel, well i think we didnt research well. It was more like a serviced apartment I believe. Well it was a decent place to stay. Out off all the staff we met, it is a mixed review.. Most of the staff memebers were very nice and helpful however few of them were not so nice. The rooms are nice and clean. Very well located. Airport is just 5 mins away, have nice food joints and pubs near by. Supermarket is also there near by and Casino is there in the same vicinity. Its a perfect place to see the landing at Maho.

On behalf of our entire team, we are sorry that we did not exceed your expectations. Please let me assure you that we are a real hotel, we are ocean front and adjacent to the famous Sunset Beach, a plane spotters' heaven, we have 2 pools, a gym, free Wifi in the lobby and the rooms, 5 restaurants on premises, a pool bar, a mini-mart, 24 hour front desk services, and soon to be opened, as pa.
You will be happy to know that one of the food and beverage outlets, Refuge, will shortly be reopening after an extensive remodeling and upgrading. Its new and exiting concept in dinging and entertainment will be a welcome addition to our property.

So, I don't normally stay in hotels in St. Maarten, as I own a home there. But recently my husband and I spent a week at Alegria and loved it. The staff is super friendly and very helpful and efficient. The rooms are very nice with good amenities, although I never quite understood why the tub/shower was so high. Daily housekeeping is provided, something you don't always get at some of the timeshare resorts. The 2 pools were both gorgeous, very private with breathtaking views. There are several restaurants within a one minute walk, so you could go out without ever leaving the property. All in all, a great experience.
