Great staff; great location (right on the beach); great snorkeling (nearby coral reefs); great breakfast pastries; affordable (everything in the Caribbean is expensive); each room has a kitchen; free wi-fi; cleaning staff is wonderful; towels, chairs, and beach umbrellas are free. Highly recommended!

What a great hotel! We just loved le Petit Hotel; it's our kind of place. The view was just amazing as well as the rooms with hight quality decor, comfortable bed, a kitchenette and just a nice feeling in the room. The balcony overlooking the blue blue blue water was just so nice! It is wonderful. Sitting there having breakfast or to sip a glass of wine was just so relaxing. The beach is small but also not crowded; many times we were all alone just enjoying the water and the sun. The nice couple, Jean and Electra, who manage the hotel were quite helpful and assisted us with directions as well as restaurant recommendations and various points of interest on the island. Le Petit is small and intimate and we hope to return. It is sad that we have to return the key to the reception!

We stayed here in May, right on the cusp of the off-season (thankfully we got good weather). Because of the time of year, the rate was pretty reasonable - $265 for an oceanfront plus tax. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel has a lot of personality and the proprietor is very nice. Most importantly, it is right on the beach, and also in a good location in terms of being able to walk to the restaurants around Grand Case.

However, I'm not sure I would stay here during high season, when the rates jump to $475 and up (inclusive of tax). It really is a petit hotel, and doesn't have the same kinds of amenities you'll find at the major five star resorts.

This may be the #1 property in Gand Case but after a 2 night stay in early March we left very disappointed with the value that was delivered. The property is certainly clean, pleasant and modern with spacious rooms but the only ammenities are a continental breakfast and beach chairs & chaises - which we thought was not much for $500/night. Perhaps part of the problem is that the surrounding area, while safe, exudes a sense of being run down rather than charming. According to Fodor's there is a sister prioperty with a pool near by that is available to guests of Le Petit Hotel but we were not informed of this during our stay.
Other reviews may have mentioned the 2 first floor rooms which appear to be desirable because of the beach access from the patio and the absence of stairs - luggage assistanc is not always available.
My bottom line: this property can be OK if you must stay in Grand Case or value a small property and are to prepared to pay a significant premium to do so. In the current economic environment we found establishments in Grand Case that did things to attract dollar-based business without compromising quality by doing things like offering favorable exchange rates, but we received the impression that Le Petit Hotel does not feel a need to conced anything.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the water with a pleasant view.Rooms 3-6 require climbing one set of stairs and 7...

Dear CarribeanTraveler273,

Wow! We were sad to see your 2 star = Poor review! We try so hard to provide our guests with exactly what we would want ourselves...100% cotton, high thread count bedding, feather pillows, imported teak furniture from Bali, thirsty robes and towels, bath ammenities from France, Fiji Water, a view to die for, a stones throw from the beautiful turquoise sea, etc... Our website is extremely informative and not misleading, our prices are clearly listed. Our pricing has always been and always will be in US $, as most of our clientele are American. Every other business on the French side has there pricing in EU and yes, some do make a favorable exchange rate to attract US $ based business. Having our rates in US $ from the get go, our aim has always been to 'attract dollar-based business without compromising quality'!!! On that same note, in keeping with todays economic situation, we have not had a price increase in over 4 years.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

All the best,
Kristin Petrelluzzi

We stayed at the Le Petit in Grand Case 15-17 March 2012. Being our first trip to SXM we relied on TA for recommendations.

The hotel is decent, typical for a boutique hotel on a Caribbean island. The room is well appointed, but no A/C. The vents in the patio door and ceiling fan kept it comfortable for sleeping. Our room had a sitting/dining/kitchenette area with a small refrigerator, microwave, etc. The complimentary breakfast was light, but adequate. We took it back to our room and enjoyed it on the balcony.

The people here were very friendly. We made arrangements for a rental car during our stay and that worked out perfectly. The only issue we had was a missed reservation for dinner on Thursday night. Got to the restaurant and they had no record of the hotel calling, even though I saw the desk clerk write it down in her book. We did not see her again at the hotel to find out what happened. But that was minor.

The beach area is small but nice. You can walk the beach to some of the Grand Case restaurants, but it's a pretty good hike. Coming back in the evening they recommended walking along the road since it is lighted, but there are no sidewalks so BE CAREFUL of the traffic! There is no pool, but you have access to their sister hotel and their pool facility, but it requires a car or taxi to get there.

Grand Case is a really nice area for exploring shops and restaurants. It is away from the cruise ship docks, so it has a more intimate feel. In the spring they have a street fair on Tuesday nights and close off the main street to auto traffic so artists and shop owners can show their wares. It is a wonderful setting and really has that island vibe.

Overall Le Petit is a good hotel. After touring the island and seeing what else there is available, I would suggest maybe staying here a few nights, and then explore other options. There are some beautiful high-end resorts in Anse Marcel. More pricey, but if you are looking for 5-star, big resort atmosphere and amenities, that will be more to your liking. But if the quaint, boutique-style hotel with a laid back Caribbean attitude is your thing, Le Petit delivers.

Dear PirateLA40,

Thank you for your review. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts about our property. I did just want to clarify that every unit at Le Petit Hotel has fully functioning air conditioning. The thermostat is located in the closet where your safe is and your room should have been set at 72 degrees for your arrival and stayed that way throughout your stay unless you or your travel companion adjusted it. I have double checked the system in #4 where you stayed and it is working just fine. We sure wish you would have spoke up about that while you were here, as we could have surely made it better! As for your dinner reservations, you chose Rainbow for Thursday and Spiga for Friday. Both reservations were absolutely made by us. It appears as though the Rainbow confirmed to us but perhaps forgot to write it in their book...so sorry about that...we have spoke to The Rainbow about their mistake.

Thank you for choosing Le Petit Hotel, it was a pleasure having you here with us.

All the best,
Kristin Petrelluzzi

The recent excellent reviews describe the hotel exactly. Had a wonderful 5 day stay. If Grand Case is for you then I would recommend this hotel. I also would strongly recommend that you consider renting a car even to get into town. If you decide to walk at night into town, there is no sidewalk, the traffic is heavy, and the road is not well lit. In this section of Grand Case there is a mix of the local's houses and businesses. It is not a "resort property", but a boutique hotel at the south end of a small village.

Room Tip: Upper floors; room 6 has a great corner view of the bay

We were looking for a quiet getaway in a paradise setting, and based on previous reviews, we chose Le Petit! We were not disappointed in the least! The views were incredible from our room, Room 9, which was on the 3rd level. We did not have a covered balcony, and we were so glad! We had a nice blend of shade and sun while eating breakfast, (fresh fruit and croissants - very nice!) sea breezes and the sound of the surf made it an incredible setting! Very private and wonderful! The rooms were clean, the service was everything you would want and expect! We asked for recommendations on restaurants and beaches and beach bars and the recommendations provided by Elettra and Jean-Francois were just perfect!

The walk to many of the Grand Case restaurants, like Rainbow Cafe, is short and the beach is very walkable, sand is soft and white!

We only gave a 4 star on the sleep quality and that was simply because our bed was very squeaky whenever either of us would move. Other than that, no complaints!!! We can't wait to come back!!
