Review of Road Town Bakery

Road Town Bakery
Ranked #2 of 2 Dessert in Tortola
Restaurant details
Reviewed 6 November 2013

This bakery, formerly known as Road Town Bakery and owned by the culinary school, has been sold and is now operated under the name of Mac's (Healthy Life) Cafe. So far as I can tell the food is still good and the service is friendly. It's located near the ferry dock on Main Street near the police station. They have pastries, croissants, cookies, pancakes, French toast, and their version of an egg McMuffin. There is limited inside seating and an outdoor patio that has about six tables. Many of the patrons carried out their items to eat at their desks at work or along their walk there.

Prices are reasonable and the food quality is great.

If you crave tasty pastries, this bakery is a must. We stuck to the sweet stuff, cinnamon rolls, sweet buns, cookies, etc., and they were beyond.....Warm, sweet (but not too sweet), chewy, flaky, everything. This is a simple small counter with a bakery case, nothing fancy, with a few tables right next to Main Street. It is not charming or quaint, it is just a bakery. But it's about the food! We stayed in West End and made 2 dedicated visits to Road Town just for me to get my cinnamon roll fix here. After you pick up a sack of treats from here, grab a coffee from Island Roots cafe two doors down, hop back in your ride to head to the beach and you are in for a great morning.

Stop early in the day and get a great choice of pastries, cookies, cake, patties, bread, etc. Rum cake is to die for as are all cakes. Also serve sandwiches and patties, and sandwiches made to order. Coffee, and cold drinks. Operated by the Culinary School at the College.

We ordered four wholewheat loaves before our charter and they lasted beautifully on board without refrigeration for as many days. We re-provisioned half way through and got equally good bread, croissants and an apple/fruit pie. Easily the best place in town.
