I have been staying at this hotel for more than 15 years now and have never been disappointed. I began traveling frequently to the BVI 30 years ago and have stayed at other hotels. But there is nothing like this one. The rooms (I have stayed in most) are immaculate, invitingly decorated and well supplied. I can particularly recommend Rooms 142 and 143. There is a wonderful restaurant on the property, one of the best on Tortola. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful with everything. If you are looking for a full-service resort with 24 hour room service, meeting halls, etc. this may not be for you. But if you are looking for the BEST of the BVI you will be happy you chose the Sugar Mill.

Forty years ago we went to Tortola to work for two years. We returned again in May and stayed at the Sugar Mill hotel in a DeLuxe studio, on their Anniversary package. From the moment we arrived we were so well looked after and made to feel special. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and our room had a wonderful view towards Jost van Dyke, the sunsets being especially delightful.
Dinner was served in the The Restaurant and the dinner menu changed every day with some interesting choices and plenty of advice on which wines to accompany the dishes. Probably one of the best places for dinner on the island.
Breakfast was served on the terrace a great choice of fresh fruit and pancakes to die for.

We just loved sitting down on the small beach by the Beach bar in the late afternoons watching the Pelicans fishing, birds diving on schools of fish and the occasional turtle.
We were sad to leave and would love to go back again soon.

Just back from a wonderful vacation on Tortola in the BVI's. We stayed at the Sugar Mill Hotel - it was a marvelous experience. Great room, food to die for and the friendliest service we have ever received. We would strongly recommend this little boutique hotel to everyone.

My husband recently planned a week long stay for us to celebrate my 50th birthday! I couldn't have asked for a better vacation! The hotel staff are absolutely the best - extremely friendly, very helpful and so pleasant! We had a poolside suite which was fabulous - our view was spectacular! The outdoor shower was incredible! We took advantage of the anniversary package which was perfect - it included the room, 2 breakfasts, 3 day jeep rental, a dinner, a copy of the owners cookbook and a bottle of champagne. Additionally it included a prepared gourmet picknic which was so good - a very large cooler packed w/seafood salad, chicken salad, fruit salad, bean salad, soda, dessert & all other necessities. We took it w/us for a day at Smuggler's Cove (which by the way don't miss finding this beautiful beach). Loved our stay and hope to go back in December!

Even staying only one night, it was easy to be captured by Sugar Mills charm. If you are looking for a large resort with lots of touristy, ersatz activities, Sugar Mill is not for you. If you are looking for relaxation in quiet, beautiful surroundings while being catered to by an unobtrusive but caring staff, book your vacation here now.

Due to a flight delay, we arrived too late for lunch. Given that we were famished, the staff asked if a "simple" chicken sandwich would suffice to get us through to dinner. What arrived was one of the best sandwiches we'd ever eaten complimented by fresh fruit and double dark chocolate cake. Our deluxe studio room was nice enough and scrupulously clean but nothing special. When we return for a longer stay, I'll opt for a Pool Suite. However, the view was lovely and we were close enough to the hear water lapping the shore. The pool area is inviting and quaint. The beach is small but nice with an excellent view of Jost Van Dyke offshore.

Dinner was in a category all it's own. A combination of old world/tropical ambiance combined with innovative and mouthwatering creations made for a memorable meal. A velvety tortilla soup got things started followed by Steak Au Poivre which was so tender it melted. The seasoning was perfect and compliemented rather than overwhelmed the meat. .

All in all, we highly recommend Sugar Mill Hotel and Restaurant and look forward to staying there again soon.

Room Tip: The Deluxe Studio was more than adequate but we'd splurge for a Pool Studio in the future.
