Sunset House is celebrating their 50th year, and although the resort is somewhat dated, it is a pleasant resort with all the amentities. Designed primarily for divers, it has an excellent and popular restaurant with great service, good food, and a great location and view of the ocean. Great french fries and pasta, although drink refills would have been nice.

Rooms were large, bed was adequate but they need to update the room and replace pillows and get rid of the ants in the bathroom that were a constant problem. But, they had free Internet service, and good breakfast included in dive package, and the resort is in a great spot for diving. Also need better towels in the bathroom, a longer shower curtain so water does not get on the floor, and get rid of the dust that was present on most things in the room.

But we, like most others staying there, went for the diving, so the room was somewhat secondary. For the diving, it was generally very good, although there was one person that had a major problem with their rented equipment which can always be iffy. Quality of the dive boats was great, and dive staff was very good, and a good variety of dive spots to visit. We liked the maps they drew on the board prior to the dive, although all of the divemasters did not do that. It is a nice dive in front of the resort, with great canyons and reef life, the mermaid and the the wreck of the Nicholson. And, nice you can get a tank for a night dive.

We walked into town once for dinner (10 minutes tops), and that was not too bad, even though there was a sidewalk for only part of that. Watch carefully for the cars that seem to pass a foot away.

Good value for the money, and we hope to be back.

Grand Cayman is ridiculously expensive and i needed to spend just one night there. The Sunset House feels a little old, but it's clean and tidy. There is a rooster that will wake you in the morning and a ton of divers telling fish stories down at the bar. I wasn't there to dive, but did go directly out of my room and right into some amazing snorkeling. I saw a sea turtle and loads of fish without having to do anything or go anywhere. Later i was even able to walk into town. If you are looking for a convenient affordable place ... Sunset House is it.

As others have said, there's no other reason to stay here, and you'll be disappointed if you're not a diver. No beach, small (cold) pool. But we are divers, and enjoyed our stay enormously. The room was huge, the bed big too, plenty of space for all your gear. The bedspread was worn and you won't find 300 thread-count sheets here, but it was very comfortable. The oceanview room is definitely worth the extra money, to get to look out over the water from your balcony. The bathroom was basic as well, but big enough. The towels are miserly, small and thin, almost useless. The fridge is small, just big enough for some water or cans of soda. The A/C worked well, although it's the noisy, old-fashioned wall unit. The TV is old and erratic, no flat screens here. We didn't care. There was free Wifi, sometimes worked in the room, but worked well in MyBar. Food there is very good, although not cheap - but nothing is cheap in the Caymans. Watch out for the sodas - $2.50 gets you a small plastic cup mostly filled with ice. But the cocktails are decent, and the milkshakes are grand. Have the tropical red snapper, it's divine. The grounds are nicely landscaped with tropical plants, it feels very relaxed and secluded. MyBar is very popular with the locals, who pack it out on Friday nights at happy hour. It's very funny to see people in business clothes amongst the grubby divers still in wet suits. There is no night life except the bar, which was fine with us as diving is so tiring. It would be very easy never to leave Sunset House, especially if you're tired from diving, but do go into Georgetown (except when there are lots of cruise ships). No way is it 5 mins walk, more like 15, but still easy, although not great at night as you're on the road itself. The town is pretty and well-kept. And do follow the recommendation to walk 15 mins in the other direction for Pure Art. It looks tacky when you first go in, but she has beautiful, hand-made arts and crafts there. Finally a note about the diving. The windy weather had ruined the visibility that the Caymans is famous for, but we still enjoyed ourselves. The shore diving is a real bonus - just grab a tank and hop in, even at night. We found a baby octopus in the sea pool on our last day! Go on the Stingray City dive, avoid the snorkel at the sand bar, which is full of cruise ship trippers. Service througout Sunset House was good, from MyBar to Reception, to the lady who cleaned our room and left fresh flowers. We got 2 free 8x10 prints from Cathy Church, which was wonderful. We intend to go back, but next time we'll rent a car and choose a time of year which is less windy.

We arrived at Sunset House and had an easy check-in and an unexpected welcoming gift left for us in our room. Dee and Eve were very helpful from booking throughout our entire stay and checkout. The apartment we stayed in was simply furnished with all the basics we needed to be comfortable. The rooms were large and clean and the housekeeping staff kept it clean throughout our 10 day stay. The view of the ocean was spectacular from the balcony and just the sound of the waves was calming and relaxing. My Bar had good drinks, good food, good prices, great views and outstanding service. Breakfast was included with the package and was delicious with several good choices on the menu. The main reason we selected Sunset House was because of the diving. The boats are nice and well maintained. They were never too crowded and the captain and crew made our diving stress free. Shore diving is easy and fun for an afternoon or night dive. The best compliment we have goes to the dive staff. All are friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to be of any help you may need. They go far above and beyond the call of duty to make your dive experience as unique as possible. Wall diving, reef diving, and swim throughs were unbelievable. The staff knows the sites intimately and are happy to point out things easily missed. Our many thanks to Andy, Neil, Rob, Lauren, Mike, Tom, Ivan, Jolene, & Mike P. It was nice to stay in one place and not have to leave the property for anything.

We arrived much earlier then planned, not only did they take care of our luggage, checked us in early while we ate lunch but on our final day, they let us stay late into the afternoon. They were more then willing to accommodate our special travel plans and never let us feel as if we were imposing on their generosity. Outside restaurant served very good food and a varied menu. The wreck dives were interesting and turtles were every where. We will be back, thanks.
