“Back at the Brac”
Reviewed 16 May 2012

Just enjoyed a week at the Brac Reef Beach Resort. The rooms are clean and comfortable, we always had plenty of clean towels and WiFi in the room to check our emails. The pool was a great place to relax with the bar just a few steps away. We had a breakfast and dinner plan, so we enjoyed a light lunch at the bar everyday. The hammocks down by the water were an awesome place to relax and read, or grab a nap.
The food was very good and the presentation in the dining room was great....service was top notch. We were always greeted with a smile.....sure did make us feel welcome.
The BBQ was really good, a big selection of food with the tables all set up outside....a local band provided music. Other activities included Bingo, Trivia, Movie Night, and a Fish Identification film.
Valet diving with Reef Divers was very good, the weather was perfect and we had a great time.

Room Tip: All rooms are great!

Our dive shop went to Brac Reef Beacch Resort and we had an amazingly great time. The staff courteous and attentive, made you feel like you appreciate and welcome. The food, all I have to say is bring shorts that are one size bigger, because the food is scrumpteous. If you lose weight, then you did something wrong. The dive shop was very accommodative. We dove all over. We some okay dive sites and truely awesome sites. Definitely add the wall over at Cayman. I would have given an excellent on the sleep quality, but the darn rooster. Haha

This was our first group trip to the Cayman Islands, and it was a very positive experience.

Arrival at the Brac Reef Resort on Cayman Brac found them totally dialed-in, prepared and as friendly as any ever seen. No diving the first night, but we looked forward to the full-valet service of the pick-up-at-your-room dive gear, and more of the totally delicious food that the buffet held in store for us the first night....

The Resort is a smaller property than the typical megaplexes found in places like the Mexican Mayan Riviera, however, they offered "big-resort" amenities like an on-site spa, weight room, great restaurant & bar, and a total focus on quality service delivery. The programmed evening entertainment included a hosted Manager's welcome party, bingo, outdoor first-run movie, trivial pursuit and more. The evening activities were just fun, and totally family oriented. On the Friday of our week there, the Resort hosted a complimentary outdoor barbeque, which was extremely well-done and enjoyed by all!

The first day of diving introduced our team to one of the finest dive operators we've ever used. Reef Divers is operated by members of the same related-family that owns and operates the resort.

During our trip, the resort was sold-out, and all hands were on-deck to operate their 4 charter boats. Reef Divers uses purpose-built 46' late-model vessels that are equipped with all the safety gear (including an AED!), oxygen, first aid fresh water rinse shower, fresh drinking water and tons of room for gear and lounging.

One of the most remarkable services that Reef Divers offers is a "full-valet" dive experience. To start the week of diving, we just left our gear bags outside of our rooms in the morning; arriving at the boat, the tanks, BC's and regs were all set-up and waiting.

The boat crew would insist on having each diver sit on a staging platform at the stern, suited-up with their masks & fins. They would bring your diving system to the platform, and assist in putting-it-on. At the end of the dive, the boat crew would remove your tank/BC/reg system from your back, change the tank, and repeat the same valet service for each and every subsequent dive. At the end of the dive-day, the BC/tanks/weights/regs were all left on the boat, to be readied for the next day's adventures. This is superb service at its finest.

From the moment that we submerged, several aquatic animals would curiously engage-us; the most common was the Nassau Grouper. They would follow us throughout the dive, and were always happy to have the photographers take another series of photos!

Probably our most intense encounter with a local reef resident was the green moray at Plymouth Rock. That moray was more pet than eel, and interacted playfully with the divers. The moray would respond to auditory signals (banging fists into palm would cause it to swim-over), and it would happily allow divers to stroke and touch it. The sight of a 5' green moray making a direct line for the divers was unnerving for some, but clearly a delight for the photographers!

Other than the long travel times to get to the Cayman Islands, The Brac Reef Resort was about as perfect a holiday as I, or many of my group, have ever had. Certainly looking forward to the next trip!

We visited Cayman Brac during the first week of April 2012 and stayed at the Brac Reef Beach Resort. Everything about the resort was very good or excellent. The meals were first class and very reasonable in price. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean. The evening activities were well organized and the diving videos that were shown one evening were very interesting. An unexpected extra was the movie theatre style pop corn maker that was wheeled out for the videos. The beach at the resort was nice although it did not extend into the water so barefoot swimming was problematic. However, there are other beaches on the south side of the island that offer good swimming. The snorkeling was good and we were very impressed with the various caves, especially the recently discovered cave towards the middle of the island. We didn't see any bats but we did see quite a few Brac parrots near the parrot sanctuary. The bluffs near the lighthouse were spectacular as were the boobies (birds, not body parts) and the other animals that make their homes there. Another place we highly recommend is a visit to NIM Things and Tenson Scott who will probably regal you for hours with his fishing stories and philosophies of life. He makes great caymanite jewelry as well. As Arnie once said (or almost said) "We'll be back!"

This is a great hotel. Hurricane Paloma really wiped this place out in 2008, and was recently refurbished/rebuilt as a result. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The owner was very nice and when one of our divers injured himself on the first day of diving, her husband even gave us a guided tour in his SUV.

For "Buffet Food", it was great.

The diving is great, the boats are in good condition and the dive masters are really good.

My only complaints are:
1. The snorkeling within walking distance is mediocre. This is important is you have non-diving snorklers in your party
2. Nitrox is way too expensive.
3. Leaving is difficult. Since they don't have luggage scanners at the airport, all checked luggage is hand searched. Then when you get to Grand Cayman you have to go through security again. If you are changing airlines in Grand Cayman you have to retrieve your luggage and re-check it.

this is my second dive trip here in two years. What a great experience.
The wind and rain made the diving this year a challenge for the boat crew. we had to dive with protection from the heavy seas. But the crew did their best and I believe the divers still had a great diving experience.
The food is beyond belief. Truly exceptional. every item was fresh. the fruit and soups were perfect.
the staff was courteous and always helpful.
the dive masters were very safety conscious. The grounds, hammocks and beach area were wonderful.
he bar food was of great variety and served promptly. oh, and the massages were great, too.
This is a GREAT DIVE VACATION. If you desire... EAT, SLEEP, AND DIVE. this is it.
April 21st through April 28th, 2012
I look forward to visiting again.
