“An oasis in Carriacou”
Reviewed May 3, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

The last time I was in Carriacou was 38 years ago to attend high school. We were back in April 2016, for our 38th year reunion. 9 of us stayed at La Pagerie, 7 women and 2 gentlemen. I wanted a place that wasn't like the little huts we stayed in during school, what we got was absolutely breathtaking. La Pagerie, is without doubt one of the finest accommodations on the island of Carriacou. What makes it extraordinary is the space, the infinity pool and the fact that it is on the water, with excellent snorkeling right off the private beach. The house is big enough that the nine of us never felt we were on top of each other. The rooms were breezy as we opened the shutters the day we arrived and kept them open throughout our stay. The grounds were beautiful. We were visited by Herman, the iguana and his posse on a daily basis as we kept them fed with any leafy waste. Due to it being the dry season there were very few mosquito's and if you drink Carib beer for the electrolytes and to hydrate even less. We were there for two weeks and we just got progressively more comfortable as time passed to the point we did not want to leave, ever. If you go, rent a four wheel drive vehicle from Wayne's in Hillsborough, you will need one to navigate the island and it's many sites, bakeries, bays and hidden beaches. You can taxi, but having the car was exceptionally helpful, especially getting down the driveway at night. What shocked us and was hugely helpful with so many people and keeping the house clean was the dishwasher. We used the fridge for food and wine and the wine fridge for beer, this worked very well. The kitchen was well appointed and as one of our guests was a chef, we ate lots of fresh fish, lobster and incredible salads and salsa's all purchased at the Fish Market and roadside vegetables stands in Hillsborough. Bring snorkel gear, there is so much marine life around Carriacou, as it is not accessible by cruise ships, lots of yachts but no big boats or resorts, it is a gem as it was 38 years ago.

“Stunning villa with incomparable views on beautiful Carriacau island!”
Reviewed January 3, 2016 for a stay in December 2015

Our group of 8 adults spent Christmas at La Pagerie, and throughly enjoyed the villa and the island. The villa is simply spectacular, with large rooms opening to the sea, an incomparable deck and pool area surfaced in hardwood with breathtaking views of the sea, large swinging shutter doors that basically open the entire living floor to the steady breeze moving up the hill, and a lovely small beach just 50 yeards down the hill. Once on the beach, a short swim out finds you in a natural sand-floored pool ranging from 3 to 6 foot deep. We took an infaltable paddle board and spent lots of hours in the water.

The gorgious Anse La Roche beach and lagoon is a short 3/4 miles hike through the forest, and is the most beautiful beach any of us have ever seen. Snorkeling there is well worth the work to carry in the gear, and odds are you will be the only persons on the beach.

We rented a car from Wayne's Car Rental, just to the left as you arrive on the ferry. Driving is on the left British-style and the roads are typical Carribean size, but we managed well and became very comfortable wiht driving the 5 miles or so into the main town of Hillsborough.

In town there is food, very cute little shops, and supplies of every sort, although finding everything you want will take several stops. Patty's Deli was a persoal favorite, as was a little 2-table resturant on the south side of town run by Ann Mathason. The eclectic museum is essentially the story of one of the islands most prolific painters and fathers, with 22 children and hundreds if paintings depicting island life and culture. Further south, the Lazy Turtle Pizzeria and Bar in Tyrell Bay is an awesome place to take in the sights of the idealistic caribean bay. Stop by Paridise Beach on your way back towards Hillsbourgh.

Our only negitive is that the kithchen is underdesigned by U.S. standards, making food preperation and clean-up a little harder than it could be. The cutting knives provided were in poor condition, but the owner has order new ones so this should not be a problem.

Wendy and Robert, a british couple with 20+ years on the island are the caretakers, and are great help. They arranged for a small sailboat to be at the villa for the week we were there, adding some fun to our stay.

Great house, great location, less-developed "local" island. We loved it!

“Bliss!”
Reviewed June 19, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

La Pagerie is the most gorgeous french colonial style house in a wonderful situation on a beautiful island just north of Grenada. We approached the villa through gates and drove along a tree lined drive and as soon as I saw the villa I knew it was my dream Caribbean home set amongst bright flowers and trees overlooking the most gorgeous little beach (with a sunbathing platform and outdoor shower.) The house is really one of a kind and the loveliest I have seen in the Caribbean - it has been built using beautiful hardwoods and the outside timber cladding has been painted in a soft pale blue which contrasts with the darker wood and blends in perfectly with the surroundings. The interior furnishings are of a very high quality and it is all extremely tasteful, slightly eclectic and very comfortable. I particularly liked the large kitchen area with its huge fridge and separate larder. The pool area is lovely too with chic sun loungers and dining table. We really enjoyed getting to know this delightful island and some of its excellent restaurants and of course some rum punches on the beach! Bliss!

“Exceptional House, Expertly Managed”

La Pagerie is a fantastic house in a fantastic location. Carriacou is the real Caribbean and if you're going to stay on the island - which you should - it would be hard to beat La Pagerie as the place to stay. Best of all is that Wendy, who manages the house, lives at the top of the hill and nothing is too much trouble for her to organise. She also knows everyone on the island. One word of warning - the drive is steep and the last part of the road to the property is pretty rough. When hiring a car, make sure you get a 4x4 - and one with some tread left on the tyres!
