Lovely, clean, quiet and on the most beautiful beach. Not a luxury hotel but well maintained and in a great location. If you can spring for ocean front, do it. One caveat, be careful of the tax, 20 percent added to the room fee was steep.

The staff is so friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and you don't feel like you are in a hotel. Our balcony looked out over the garden pool and we had a view of the ocean. It was amazing and serene and peaceful. The gardens are gorgeous. Each building seemed to be set off by itself by the landscaping but you were all connected. Easy access to everything. The beach was the best. After exploring other resorts, I think this was the most beautiful. We had so much fun, they have bikes to use and kayaks and sail boats. When my husband and i were on a kayak and a wave turned us over, the staff came out in a sail boat to help. they were friendly and helpful and respectful and didn't treat us like the dummy tourist that we were. If you want a relaxing vacation I highly recommend Royal West Indies. You won't be sorry.

Room Tip: The top floor is worth it for the view. No matter what you are looking at, the beach or the garden.

My husband and I stayed at the Royal West Indies Resort for a week during our March 2012 visit to the Turks and Caicos Islands. Its location on Grace Bay is incredible. The bay itself is as beautiful as or more so than any picture you can find of it, and it is mere steps from the resort. Neither the bay or the resort ever felt crowded. They offered the beautiful, romantic, quiet, and perfectly relaxing vacation my husband and I were after.

The resort grounds are well maintained and filled with beautiful plants. It offers 2 pools, a jacuzzi, and other complimentary extras for guests to borrow such as bikes, snorkel gear, and Hobie cats. Our room included a balcony with an amazing view of Grace Bay, a handy kitchenette with dishes, and a stacked washer and dryer. The room was also well laid out and had very nice furniture. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant at the resort, Pelican Bay, was good but not great.

My husband and I chose not to rent a car or a scooter during our trip because the beach and R&R was our focus. The island of Providenciales is approximately 20 miles long, and many things are in easy walking distance from the Royal West Indies Resort. Also, most tour companies will pick you up at the resort.

The popular Coco Bistro and Coyaba restaurants are both a 10 minute walk from the resort. The Grace Bay Gourmet grocery store is a 15 minute walk and is well described in this helpful Trip Advisor article: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g147395-c113361/Turks-And-Caicos:Caribbean:Prices.Money.Saving.Tips.And.Water.html. It was nice to have bottled water, breakfast foods, and snacks on hand.

The Regent Village shopping area is a 20 minute walk from the resort. The point of going to Turks and Caicos certainly isn’t for its shopping, but The Regent Village is nice and it’s easy to get to if want to buy a t-shirt or other touristy item. The shopping area also includes a variety of restaurants.

As wonderful as the Grace Bay area is, it is still very much a tourist area. If you have any interest to look around Providenciales or to go to any sites or restaurants outside of the tourist area, you’re best bet is to rent a car or scooter in advance. Rentals go fast and taxis are expensive - we were told it would cost $60 round trip to take a taxi from the resort to the well-known local hangout called Da Conch Shack. There is a car/buggy/scooter rental place within a 5 minute walk from the Royal West Indies Resort. If we ever go back (and I hope we do) I’d book a scooter there in advance to use a day or two, probably during the middle of our trip.

We spent a little time during our trip scoping out some of the other resorts. Both my husband and I felt we made the right choice staying at the Royal West Indies Resort and would stay there again. I highly recommend it unless you’re looking for a party. You’ll have to go down the road to find the party – the Royal West Indies Resort is quiet and beautiful .

We came here in mid-January as part of a Jet Blue package deal, and couldn't have been happier. Most importantly, the beach could not be more beautiful or serene. The suite we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to was spacious and clean, with all updated details in the bathroom and kitchen (granite counters etc). The landscaping on the grounds is meticulous and beautiful. We had a view of the pool area through lush tree tops, and a generous wraparound deck (we were in building #8, farthest from the sea - didn't bother us at all). The staff were very friendly. We ate our dinners at the onsite restaurant which was decent enough (we didn't have high expectations), but on our first morning we walked to the relatively nearby grocery store to get some supplies for breakfast and lunch since we had a full kitchen - definitely worth doing. Be prepared for very high island prices on all food and drink - makes NYC look inexpensive. There are several good fancy restaurants nearby, but surprisingly, you do need reservations. We enjoyed one (very long) walk to a snorkeling spot about 2-3 miles to the left down the beach (brought our own gear). We swam with a small sea turtle there for a while. We met many other travelers who had been back to RWI again and again - we hope we will too.

One minor complaint: The management seemed a bit overzealous on their rules for the bikes. on saturday morning i wanted to quickly take a bike to go get a few groceries including water bottles, but the bikes were scheduled for "maintenance" until the afternoon. presumably just to check tire pressure? these are your basic beach cruisers, after all. all (eight?) bikes were sitting there at the bike rack. the store is a little over a mile away. they wouldn't budge, despite my polite pleas to just take one and bring it right back. nor would they allow us to reserve the bikes for 3 hours the next day, as opposed to the 2 hrs that is the norm. if you keep the bikes out beyond the allotted time, they will charge you handsomely for it (i was told it would be $100 for bringing the bike back late). anyway - this is a minor quibble, and on the flip side i understand their need to stick with a clear set of rules to avoid confusion and keep things fair. i appreciate that they run a tight ship and am sure that's why it's such a clean and pleasant place to stay.
