the most beatiful location in the heart of the town. this island is perfect! sea turtles grazing near the beach, pelicans fishing every morning, and the best part: iguanas sunbathing all around. we planned to stay here for a week, which turned into too!

It is fantastic to stay on this little private island next to Christiansted. Much better than staying in the city. Here you have your own beach and the boat takes you to the city and back whenever you need it. Will for sure recommend it to all travellers going to stay in Christianssted.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms have a nice room.

This is my second time staying at the hotel (previous visit was 2 years ago). Our room this time (301) was actually nicer than our previous room (114), even though 114 was a 2-room suite. Room 301 faces towards the ocean but on the back side of the island, which feels quieter and more peaceful. The room was also in a bit better condition than room 114, though neither room was more than a 3 star level. I did find that the beds were comfortable, but there are still many small issues (sliding doors/screens don't work, etc) which can make the quality seem sub-standard. Room 301 was also nice as it was on the top level and was an end-unit, so very quiet.

We returned to this hotel because of several factors - location (duh!), the beautiful views, the accessible beach, and the friendly staff. I like not having to rent a car to get to downtown Christiansted and taking the ferry back and forth to the boardwalk is very fast and convenient.

The restaurant/bar serves breakfast and lunch (and a weekly BBQ), but not dinner which is sometimes a bit inconvenient when you are exhausted from a day out diving/sightseeing/etc. OTOH the food is overpriced and service can be a bit slow. Since all rooms have at least a small fridge and microwave it is a good idea to stock up on some snacks so that you don't always have to go out to get something to eat.

You will enjoy the hotel a lot more if you just slow down your internal clock to "island time" and not be too picky on the finer details. I felt that the basics were met just fine, and we will probably be back for a 3rd visit in the next year or two.

Room Tip: Avoid room 203, which has a soda machine right at the room entrance (could be noisy).

First of all, I want to say that the overall experience was nice: The staff was mostly very polite and friendly (almost everyone greeted us with a "good morning/night" and were very helpful); the rooms were cleaned daily and any issues were promptly dealt with. There is a "private" beach and although others can pay to use it that was kept tidy, beautiful, and relaxing. Between the nine of us we had four rooms and each one had a great view!

However, there are several things that you need to be aware of before staying here. The number one thing I see on here is the nickel and diming complaints; that is a real thing that almost is exclusively connected to the "private" beach. While the plastic lawn chairs and beach towels are free for hotel guests, they do expect that you pay for the cabanas, beach umbrellas, and reclining chairs. They are NOT cheap (something like $20 or so?)... I should mention that they never actually enforced this on us as we used them before they told us but it is still something to be aware of. Also the bar and restaurant is NOT owned by the hotel so it closes at 5pm and 6pm respectively, which isn't usually an issue since the boardwalk area is a short ferry ride away but for people who don't want to deal with several ferry trips back and forth every day it could be an annoyance. Speaking of ferry rides, they are free for hotel guests but they do expect tips every once in awhile.

As far as the rooms go, they seem to be very hit and miss. All four of our rooms had issues with ants which isn't really out of the ordinary for a hotel in a tropical area but could be a shock to anyone who has never been to a hotel like this. We also saw some roaches and spiders. Some rooms had newer wall mounted AC units that were very nice while others had older central AC that didn't cool the room off at all (one of the couples in our group had to move rooms because of this). They also make you pay a $100 deposit when you check in on top of the resort fees and have a checklist in your room that notes the pricing of each item if it is missing or damaged.

Also, not really a pro or con but the free Wifi coverage in some rooms is spotty; they only have one node and it is in the main office. It is also slow, but that is to be expected on an island... so FYI.

All that said, we got a special rate that ended up being around $86/night not including the $12/day (which is per person, by the way) so I feel at that price all things considered it was a generally good experience. However their normal rate is $140/night and I would feel MUCH differently at that price. If there was a 3.5 star I would do that, but given the hidden fees and the state of some of the rooms I feel the rating is appropriate. Unfortunately, I don't have much to compare it to in St. Croix so this review may be a bit harsh.

Highs: Great location, awesome beach, friendly/prompt staff
Lows: Hidden costs, hit and miss room quality, bugs in rooms, cay restaurant hours, normal hotel rate

Overall 3.5/5

This place is absolutely beautiful, and all of the ladies in the front office are very helpful and friendly, especially Faye (who both checked us in and out, at the beginning and end of our week). Wildlife and plants on the island are beautiful, as is the beach and snorkeling off of it. The views from the rooms are amazing, and the rooms are clean & cozy. Love the ferry & all of the ferry captains. Love the restaurant & bar on the island, and that it's the only beach in downtown Christiansted. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!
