We visited Blackbeards Castle the first week of April with a family of 3 generations and all had a very good time! Try to get there when it first opens if you are staying on the island to get ahead of any cruise ship foot traffic. Be prepared to walk on property (lots of stairs). As others have mentioned, to get the most out of your experience listen to the guides at each stop. We had lunch there and found it a good value.

I think the best part of the "castle" is the view from the top. Well that and saying that you survived the uphill walk to get there without succumbing to heat stroke. If you are spending the day in Charlotte Amalie it's worth a visit but shouldn't be the sole reason you are in town.

Our initial reaction was "tourist trap" and while there are strong elements of that (Buy some rum! Buy some amber!), the tower gives a great view, the buildings are extremely attractive and the guides deliver a tremendous amount of information about the buildings and the times in which they were built if you care to listen.

We recently took a cruise to the Eastern Carribean. Our trip to Blackbeard's Castle was the highlight of the entire week! I was hesitant to go, but was talked into it by my nephew. He was spot on! We had the most amazing time... the tour through the houses and the grounds, the Rum Factory, the Amber Museum, and a great little bar at the bottom on the 99 steps. And the most amazing part of all was the people -- the staff was welcoming, entertaining, and appeared to love what they do! Thank you all for the highlight of our cruise trip!

We got a great photo. Getting there with a rental car was challenging. Once we got there, they were closing. They allowed us to take a quick pic.
