Our group of 10 (2 families of 4 and 2 other college-age boys from another family) stayed at Coco Caribe the first full week of January, 2015. We found its location to be fantastic - just a 10 minute "thrill ride" from Cruz Bay on narrow, hilly, hairpin turn roads. Driving is pretty sketchy at first, but actually quite fun after a couple of days getting used to it! The house has neighbors on both sides, but with the staggered elevations and the thick jungle between them, we, literally, never saw the other houses.
The layout of the house is like a "micro-resort", as all but 1 of the 5 suites are detached from the main house. This works out great for people who want to take a nap, or simply have a little privacy away from the group. Each suite had its own beautiful bathroom, very comfortable bed, private balcony, and great air conditioning.
The main house is bigger than it looks in the pictures with the pool deck, outdoor table, wrap-around balcony and additional patio providing even more space to spread out. It is not air conditioned, but at least in January, it was not necessary. With 3 sides of the main house sliding glass doors, we easily brought in awesome ocean breezes day and night. There are also ceiling fans for those calmer times.
The house was well appointed with comfortable furniture, a well-stocked kitchen, and tons of beach towels. These really came in handy with 10 people going from pool to beach to pool on a daily basis. The washer and dryer were very utilized to keep up with the towel usage on a daily basis.
The pool is a really nice size - perfect for floating around a little, or just helping to shake the cobwebs from the night before. The pool area only gets sun in the morning, but after a day at the beach, having a shaded pool is a really good thing. I don't think the pool is heated, which we were fine with. Even in early January, the water was "refreshing" but very comfortable.
A couple of minor items that DSJ may want to look in to,,, The refrigerator in the main house was not all that cold. We thought it was because we had so many people going in and out, but even over night it never got that cold. Also, a couple of the big sliding screen doors needs adjusting, as they kept falling off their tracks. Finally, we would have loved a good, old-fashioned broom in the main house. We found a big push broom, which was great for the outside patio/deck, but challenging to navigate in the house :-)
DSJ, the property management company, was terrific. They met us at the ferry dock, and escorted us to the house and showed us around. When the grill ran out of LP gas one night, we called and had a new tank the next morning. When my wife locked our suite keys in the room, they were out within 15 minutes and let us in. They were there when we needed them, and invisible when we didn't - perfect.
Coco Caribe is not the Ritz. There are other villas on the island that are more posh and luxurious, if that's your thing. But, we found it to have everything we were looking for and a few surprises. It was more than comfortable, and nearly perfect for our large, laid-back group. There is already talk of a return trip!
