“Loved it! Would stay again in a heartbeat.”
Reviewed December 7, 2014 for a stay in December 2014

Cocotier was our 7 day home-away-from-home. Beautiful house, great location, and dramatically excellent views to the west overseeing the Cruz Bay, St. Thomas, and the sunset. Bernard was especially helpful, meeting us as we arrived on the Red Hook Ferry and coming in after hours when we had a small water problem. Very nice kitchen, washer/dryer, and Air Conditioning in each room. Beautiful rooms, pool, and, hot tub - all with great views. My wife and I took the 2nd story room with a private balcony and loved it.

Had a couple of issues with the water pump, but Cocotier was fast to respond so I have nothing negative to say about it at all.

“Spectacular Views!!!”

We were a group of 4 couples. Everyone had their own rooms all with private bathrooms and TVs. The main living area was nicely decorated and well equipped with all the item you would need. Pool are was nice to watch the sunsets after a long day at the beach. The pool was only about 4 feet deep, so if you wanted to swim and dive in this was not the pool for you. The location was wonderful. You need a 4 wheel drive for some of the hills. Great villa for a family or a group. Would love to stay there again. He pool level room with the room above it was a bit noisy. You could hear everything above. If you are a light sleeper avoid that room. Only 1 cooler at the villa which became a bit of a problem with 8 adults heading to the beach daily. Love love love this place!!

“Exquisite Sunset Views from Every Room”

The layout is fantastic offering beautiful sunset views of the water, boats anchored in the harbor below, and the twinkling lights of St. Thomas. The villa has a courtyard feel lined with coconut trees and tropical gardens, the focus around the pool and outdoor patio and of course the view.
The main living areas of the kitchen/dining and great room were open and inviting in a tasteful British Colonial decor as well as the bedrooms - just perfect for the islands. All four bedrooms were similar in size (two king & two queen), each with its own on-suite bath, comfortable linens and plush towels. The villa is essentially on one level with the exception of one bedroom. This made getting around easier for our parents who are having mobility problems and don't do that well with stairs. Air conditioning is available in each bedroom and main living area, but we never used it! And the washer/dryer were great options allowing us to pack less for the trip.
Our family gathered here (parents, three siblings with spouses and two grand kids) and spent 10 glorious days. A rental car with 4WD is necessary to make it up the steep roads (and driveway). We visited a different beach every day and ended the afternoon with a dip in the pool.
With two young children in our group, we chose to prepare most of our dinners. The only fault I can find with the villa is the condition of the cutlery and non-stick frying pans. It's curious how previous renters could use the very dull knives to make so many cuts on the non-stick pans - a problem with many vacation houses. Otherwise the kitchen was well appointed with high end appliances and lots of fun glassware to make plenty of painkillers!
All great things come to an end, but we certainly hated to leave!

“Fabulous View, Convenient Location”
Reviewed January 17, 2012 for a stay in January 2012

Our family stayed at Cocotier over New Year's Week. Since we visited during this prime time, we payed a substantial sum to stay here. (Disclaimer: My review is somewhat colored by the cost of our stay. When you pay as much as we did--you expect perfection.)

Cocotier's best asset is its commanding southwest view with amazing sunsets when the weather cooperates. We passed on other villas for this reason and were rewarded. It is located in a nice neighborhood of other similar villas, close to town but high enough to be a little cooler. The villa is well equipped with towels, dishes, and appliances including a washer and dryer. The decor is simple, clean, and appealing. The pool and hot tub were very nice and we made good use of them. Each of the 4 bedrooms had air-conditioning which we hardly used due to the cool breezes at night. The grounds are simple and well kept. The internet was slow but worked for our needs, the Sat TV did not work for most of the time which was fine after the Bowl games were over.

The biggest flaw of Cocotier is its proximity to other villas. There is a villa sitting just above on the hill which is barely visible from Cocotier. Unfortunately a very loud group of people were staying here and at times this was annoying. Adjacent to the South is another villa which is way to close. This was unoccupied during most of our stay. However on the last few days it was occupied and every conversation that our neighbors had outside could be heard plainly. This is not the place to stay if you need privacy. Our other issue was one of the larger bedrooms absolutely reeked of smoke, an issue beyond the owner's control who were the victims of some rude and inconsiderate clients. This was unfortunate for our guests who stayed in this room.

The other issues that we had during this stay were directly the result of the management company. The introduction that we were given to the villa was cursory. The specifics about using the hot tub and checking out were not explained. Unfortunately multiple phone calls and emails were required. A simple instruction sheet for both would have saved us both time and stress. Destination St. John allows credit card booking so I was able to get miles for my stay which is a great plus.
