My wife and I spent a week at the Westin Bay Villa condo. We were told we were extremely lucky to be able to book a week here in the winter. Now we know why!! What a pleasant week. The resort was neat, clean and well kept. The food on the premises was good, not great, but great food was just a short cab ride into town. The service around the pool was good, but again not great. The hotel rooms are closest to the pool and beach and the timeshare villas are a walk up the hill or even across the road. There are shuttles (golf carts) always around to take you to the far reaches of the resort. We didn't spend any time on the beach at the resort. We went to Caneel Bay and Cinnamon Beach for that. No problem getting a chair at the pool although the week before was crazy due to winter break form what we were told. The island is beautiful and the Westin is definitely a great place to kick back and relax.

Room Tip: Bayview Villas ask for building 24 or 25

For our first introduction to the virgin islands, we could not have chosen a better resort - or island! From the moment we checked in, the staff made us feel that no request was too big. From the bartenders, to the staff at Mango Deli - everyone made us feel welcome. As a guest with an injury, the staff ensured our room was as accessible to all amenities as possible.
Of special note, the assistance we received at O'Connor car rental was outstanding! After spending over an hour calling around the island to find us a jeep, she was able to locate one in her system that was available for not one but 2 days! No other vehicles available on the island at all! Even the housekeeping staff and Westin taxi drivers were well versed in excellent customer service. I have stayed in many hotels around the world, many of which are Starwood properties. They should be very proud to count the staff and property of this wonderful resort as one of theirs! Thank you for making my healing vacation the best it could be!

Awesome resort and island. Cruz bay water sports located on property had some great trips to the bv islands. I would highly recommend this resort if your looking fir a quiet vacation.
Benefits
-rooms are superb
-location is great
Food and bev very good but expensive
On site beach is awesome
Drawbacks
Westin ferry is expensive
No rentals avail on island forcing us to take taxis which are on every corner.
The resort is very spread out requiring shuttle service which is reafily available

my husband and our travel mates just got back from the Westin St. John. We love it there albeit some small issues. BayVilla two bedroom three bath was lovely. the island is gorgeous. too bad the Westin could not do a better job with the sand on their beach!!!
The food at the beach bar is fair. we did not try Prime.
all in all we love the place.

The Westin was wonderful. We booked thru stjohncondos.com. They were so helpful and very affordable. We have 4 children. They had the best vacation ever. We took the island tour with Penn at the Westin. It was an amazing experience.
The service and staff at the Westin were great, This is the first vacation where everyone wants to go again next year.

To be fair any review of this property, I think, must consider there are only two or three hotels on this special and magical island. So with the limited options of where to stay, especially within a "budget" as opposed to spending $7500 for a week away, this has to enter the conversation and lead to a somewhat higher ranking. Without the Westin, many couples and families might never even get to visit St. John. So with this in mind:

The resort porperty here is beautiful.

We checked in and were to have an ocean view 2nd or 3rd floor room in building 2100 or 2200. We were taken to a ground level room and it actually stunk of an overwhelming musty odor. After a very short wait, which was nice that it was not a long time, we were taken to another room. This was also a ground level room and it overlooked a basketball court, over which you could view the water. Much to our surprise, as we awoke the next morning, workers were contructing a huge party tent obscuring our "ocean" view. Once finished, to our amazment, they put up a second one. So, I wandered over to the front desk and explained all this to a very nice young woman there. She poked around on the computer and found us a room. So we, instead of heading out in the jeep to the beach as were we so excited to do on our first full day of vacation, returned to our room and had to re-pack all our bags less than 18 hours after arriving and unpacking. We were told to do that and then go to the beach and come on back and they would be in our new room. I told my wife, despite already having the new room keys, that I was keeping one of the old ones. You, upon arriving back about 7pm soaking wet from the North Side beaches, our bags were sitting in that same room and were never moved. So I went back to the front desk, at leaset getting some exercise here, and talked with a nice guy named Carlos. He said to go change and go out to dinner and come back and we'd be moved. So we pulled stuff out of our already packed luggage and showered and went to the Fish Trap for dinner. Finally upon arriving back the bags were moved into room 2137 on the third floor. This was a, seemingly, very nice 3rd floor room with a nice ocean view and everything we initially hoped for. Until we went to bed. This room had a door inside of it to what could be an adjoining room. Sometime around 1am both my wife and I were awakened by a loud banging sound lasting for a second or two. We wrote it off and went back to sleep until it happened again. Sometime around 4am of our second night of this we decided as we lay awake in bed, that we'd already changed rooms twice and liked the view from here and we just were not going back to that front desk to complain again and risk having to repack all our stuff and move again. Despite using a ton of our hard earned points (nearly 45,000 at a rate of gaining one for each dollar spent plus $130 cash per night) we'd tough it out and maybe drink more at night hoping to sleep through it. This went on every night of our stay, who knows how many times or how often as we slept thru what we could putting cotton balls in our ears, yet still being woken up 2 to 4 times each night. I even tried stuffing a bunch of toilet paper in the doorjam, to no avail. After arriving back home we called about and explained all this and in the end were offered 15,000 points. To me this just doesn't cut it when this property costs 16,000 points a night in most cases. It took us two years to save to have the ability to go here and we get the equivelent of one night? That's lousy and bad customer service, especially for returning Gold status customers.

The property is beautiful. The staff in most all cases were very nice. My wife did encounter a male supervisor speaking terribly rudely and somewhat menacingly, she thought, to a female maid one day.

The food here is quite overpriced down by the pool and at the terrace bar by the parrots. In the actual dining room there, the dinners are on par with other places in Cruz Bay. The idea of a $28 breakfast buffet though is a rip off.

The property is beaufiful.

Due to the lack of options on this very expensive island The Westin is a good alternative. Great pool and grounds, comfy beds, easy access to Cruz Bay and North Shore beaches, nice staff, just expensive and in some cases run down considering how hard one works and what it costs to stay here. (Sleep quality below is rated higher due to bed comfort and fact that most people will not encounter what we did with the inroom door.)

Room Tip: Some are updated and some are not, ask for what you want and keep asking for it.

Check-in should have been stress-free and I apologize for the multiple room moves and that your accommodations did not exceed your expectations. My parents and my brother and his wife joined my wife and me for a week at the Westin on stunning St John. It may have been the best vacation any of us have ever been on.

The Westin property is beautiful. We were in a 3-bedroom villa. We had a walled-in patio which included our own private pool and hot tub.

It was very spacious. The grounds were meticulously clean. There were a few roving cats which, as cat-lovers, was a plus for us. Lots of iguanas walking freely. Kind of neat.

I'm going to list a few negatives but don't be scared away. We will most likely return to the Westin.

1. Golf carts cruising everywhere. No one ever told us what our "rights" were. The villa was quite a walk from the beach and main pool and restaurants so a ride, when we got one, was nice. Do you tip those guys? Do you call for a ride? Don't know.

2. The beach was not great. It wasn't dirty or anything but when you go to a beachfront resort, the expectation is that you use the beach. A couple of us swam a little but very ho-hum. Plan on driving to better beaches.

3. TIME SHARE! This was by far the biggest negative. Upon arrival I asked the consierge about a restaurant or something and he broke into the biggest welcoming ceremony. I called my family over because it seemed like this guy was going to be our personal best friend for a week. After a few minutes of suggestions about great beaches, etc, he came with the pitch for a timeshare. You get all this blah blah free stuff if you sit through a 90-minute sales pitch. Well we didnt want a timeshare or the 90 minute arm-twisting. And we never used the consierge again. We were the people who had declined. Bad people. We sort of hung our heads when we walked by. Def not the highlight of our trip but the good outweighed the bad by enough that we all had a great time.

While we were pleased to read that you and your family enjoyed your stay and many of our amenities, such as your villa, the grounds and exotic animals, I would like to extend my apologies for those areas you noted were not up to your expectations. The shuttles, beach and Concierge team are all meant to enhance your stay with us here at The Westin St. John, and we sincerely apologize that these things detracted from your otherwise positive stay rather than improving it even further. I also apologize for the lack of communication regarding your rights to the golf carts. For your next stay, please keep in mind that you can call Service Express at any time to request a shuttle, and you are always certainly more than welcome to ride on any of them that you see vacant. These carts are complimentary transportation for all of our guests, and gratuity is completely up to your discretion but certainly not required. I have passed your comments on to Management regarding your experience at the Concierge Desk. Our goal is to provide you with a relaxed and refreshing environment, one in which you do not feel pressured or uncomfortable in any way, so I was disappointed to hear you felt otherwise. In regards to the beach, it is in fact man-made and was created when the property was established, so I apologize if it did not meet your expectations. We strive to carry over the beauty you experience on our National Park beaches into our lovely landscaping and tranquil setting here at the Westin St. John. Again, thank you for your insight and for sharing your comments. We hope to welcome you and your family back in the near future and to this time not only meet, but exceed your expectations.
