“Awesome Trip”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

Awesome trip. Met at the gate with cool/refreshing washcloth and champagne. Beverly was awesome. Great drinks both at the pool and island...thanks Mark and Darvelle...thanks for the limes. Candle lit dinner was an incredible experience, thanks Zeved, a great butler. Great photos from Jason. Not one thing to complain about. Far exceeded our expectations. Thanks Patrick for your paddle board lessons. Great activities directors! One tip that helped us, eat at Kimonos first night, and meet other great couples. Thanks Tiny....great chef there!

Room Tip: Room service breakfast is very nice on the balcony room.

This resort is beautiful. The construction of the front tower is nearly finished. We stayed in the Royal Village in a concierge room. It was fabulous! We had dinner in The Crystal Room, The Bacarat, and the Italian restaurants. The first 2 were very nice, the Italian was below average. All the employees were more than helpful. One "star" employee for us was Gabriella. She went way above the call of duty for us. She arranged an anniversary dinner @ the Bacarat with a "special dessert" and song from the wait staff. The nightly entertainment was fun. Especially the fire pits and the Piano bar sing a longs. The "late night" club dance music was awful. However, I heard from a fellow vacationer that the club was in a change over of managers??
The only real problem we had was at the airport on arrival. The whole experience is so confusing and time consuming it became annoying. Nothing at all the way Sandals does the arrival in Jamaica. Also, the check -in process @ the resort was a bit jumbled. But, not enough to ruin the vacation or give this place a bad rating. It was GEAT:)

Room Tip: Royal Village with the concierge service

This was our first time at a Sandals resort. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent and our room was clean and well-appointed. I really have no complaints other than the temperature was a bit chilly during our stay.

We spent quite a bit of time at Cricketer's Pub in the evenings and found Dario and Marcian to be exceptionally great servers. They could locate nearly any food we requested, even if it wasn't on the Pub menu. They were awesome.

Been going to this property for more than 8 years - the rooms are starting to show wear, the ceiling leaked from the A/C above, black mold in the shower, carpet rips by the sliding glass doors etc. Also service in 2 of the restaurants was really terrible - clearly a training ground, but on vacation at these prices nearly $1K a day you want all the best - PLUS $40 a week for wireless - and are paying for it. Having butler services helps to negotiate some of the challenges but we won't be going back again. The Bahamanian people are really nice on balance and we had a good time overall, but every time we return we are increasingly disappointed. There is NO gym to speak of and wish we would have been told this - and the construction in one building ruins one of the pool areas. Maybe they will fix it up and things will turn around, but they are getting a lot of competition. Take a good look at the other properties of Sandals that are already updated!

Room Tip: ask to be upgraded - higher floors have better views - if you want quiet stay away from the irish pu...

You can never really lose staying at any Sandals but the 4 of us friends booked back in the Summer and paid in full for an Ocean/Pool view concierge room, guaranteed to be on the 3rd to 6th floor. We also had a "request for side by side rooms" which we knew may not be possible. Our friends have stayed at Sandals 4 or 5 times and this was our 2nd. Everytime, the hassle begins at the check in desk where they inevitably tell you that you have been "upgraded", which always (for us) turns out to be no upgrade at all!! This time we decided to be firm on getting what we paid for. We let the young lady take us to their 6th floor side by side rooms to see what the "upgrade" really was. Okay, the "upgrade" was an old fabric couch thrown in the corner of a bigger room, with a tiny balcony facing an empty lot and the ocean way off in the distance if you hung your head over the balcony and squinted. We told the young lady that this was not acceptable and asked her to call and ask for rooms on the ocean/pool side of the building, what we had paid for. She phoned and had a short conversation which obviously was, "oh sorry, the hotel is full to capacity". She left and we decided to call and ask to speak to the manager. The lady on the phone said "he was in a meeting" (of course) but she listened to our complaint and immediately found us two side by side rooms on the ocean/pool side of the hotel. We were appreciative but annoyed that the other young lady gave us an obvious lie/story whatever you want to call it. With the prices you pay to stay at Sandals, you should NOt have to argue to get what you paid for and this may change our minds forever for future visits. Soon after we got into our new rooms the power went off in the whole building which lasted a couple of hours, not a big deal for us but the staff were scrambling to help people trapped in elevators, etc and were excellent in hleping folks out with dark stairways, etc. I guess the best person in the whole complex to us was a young small framed man name Chris MAC!! This young man from the bell desk carried up our luggage (4 heavy pieces) all the way up 5 floors and of course would NOT accept a tip. He was so sweet, strong and friendly. What a pure example of excellent customer service. Sandals should be very proud of this unsung hero!! The grounds people at Sandals, always friendly and helpful. Spices buffet/restaurant has a great morning buffet with excellent chefs and pastries, the best yet!! However, their policy of wait to be seated when there are numerous empty tables needs to go away, so silly. We were told not to choose our table next time but to go inside and wait in line......no thanks. The service is very slow as well as far as getting a missing coffee cup or cutlery. One waitress told us to "wait a minute" when we politely asked for another cup? The resort is old but still beautiful. Yes it is showing some wear and tear, especially the bathrooms but very very clean. The housekeeping staff were magnificent, beautiful night turn downs!! Bartenders were great but way overworked, they need more of them at peak hours. The Island was beautiful with a great restaurant and excellent food. Again, the bar was understaffed and these people work so hard. All in all we had a great and beautiful holiday, post check in!!

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean/pool view and good luck with that

This was the first time to a Sandals resort. Stayed February 12-16th and did the 'Concierge' level rooms (other than restaurant reservations, they didn't do much for us). Check-in was a bit disorganized but otherwise we enjoyed the resort very much.

The private island was the gem of the resort and we spent most of our time there. It was beautiful and very secluded on the north side of the island. Can't say enough about it. We spent most of our time there. The restaurant for lunch was pretty good. They have a beautiful pool but don't know why you would hang out there when you have such stunning beaches, especially on the north side of the island.

Baccarat's was by far the best restaurant. Went there twice it was so good. Spices was a great buffet. The pizza patio could have ben better if they made better crust but I still found myself eating from there daily. The 'English Pub' was subpar although we only had appetizers there and he Guiness was served in a room temperature non-widget can (on tap would have been nice since it was supposed to be an authentic English Pub). We didn't get a chance to experience Gordon's on the Pier or the island restuarant at night but heard great things about both from other guests. Anyone who has experienced authentic asian food may find Kimino's a bit bland and over sauced (more like American-styled). Didn't go to Casanova's because the menu looked pretty basic - would have been nice if there was more than spaghetti and lasagna.

Staff was very nice. Drinks were a plenty (strong too) and the room was restocked daily. The firepits were also fantastic.

My only wonder is that since only one building was occupied during our visit (other is under construction), how busy would it be at capacity when both buildings are being used. I would be willing to come back and find out. Construction noises were minimal so it wasn't an issue at all for us.

Quick tip - If your flight is not until later in the day, the hospitality room is first come, first serve and we had to wait almost an hour to change back into 'colder weather clothes'.

Overall, I would recommend this resort if you are trying to get away from it all. We had a wonderful time.

Room Tip: Request the newer building as it looks like it is going to be fantastic. Ask for a room on the 5-6t...

Overall the staff was very helpful and friendly. Gabriella was this wonderful gal from South Africa and she was wonderful to us. Very helpful and we owe Gabriella a big thank you for getting us into the Bakarak restaurant!! This property is divided into 2 distinct properties. There are rooms in the 'tower' and then rooms in the 'villa'. My wife and I stayed at the villas and we loved it. If you are looking for a more quiet get-a-way the villas are the way to go. If you want to be closer to all of the action and big pool area, then the towers are the place to stay. Also, every 3 villas share a private plunge pool and hot tub. They have towels and lounge chairs around the pool/hot tub.
The private island makes this property. It is a true paradise. I can't begin to say enough about the island and how wonderful it is. The Bakarak restaurant is wonderful and the food and service is top notch.
If you do not have a good time, it is your own fault. This is a perfect property for a 3 -4 night stay. There is enough there to keep you busy. There was some construction at the 2nd tower when we were there but it wasn't that noisy or intrusive. There were times when we didn't even realize the hammers were swinging.
If there is any 1 negative of this property it is the transportation to/fro the airport. That part of the experience was not as organized as other Sandals properties. When my wife and I go to this property again, we will take the cab service.
Overall, however, this is a wonderful property with very friendly staff, good food, ample drinks and the awesome private island! My wife and I would go again without any 2nd thoughts.
