We decided to stay at the boathouse on our usual Easter break. The aim was to explore Co Down. Everything was very close so the location halfway between Mount Stewart and Castle Ward was ideal. From the moment we arrived, it was relaxing and I have to say magical. My wife and I could do nothing but smile. The view stretching across Strangford Lough, the stresses of work evaporate. Even at night it is great, watching the Lough in the moonlight. The children had great time skimming stone across the water.
5min walk will talk you to Daft Eddies for a great meal.
Less than 10min drive will get you to Balloo House, and Poachers Pocket- top class restaurants. Salty dog in Bangor is really worth a visit. We even got to Dundrum, for Mourne seafood bar.
The boathouse is something special and the measure of how good,is that we did not want to leave.
Very relaxing stay with stunning mesmerising view in all weathers across Strangford Lough yet still only half an hour from Belfast and the infamous stunning Daft Eddy's bar/restaurant a short shore-walk away, and Lindy was a very relaxed accommodating host who lives nearby. I've stayed in countless holiday lets, and this was immaculate and a luxurious home from home. On a practical note, 'Centra' supermarket in Killinchy is only short drive away for amenities.
Really loved the location and views of this lovely house! We stayed for 4 nights and found the Boathouse cosy, warm and comfortable. Everything we needed was there...
Waking to see the sunrise in the distance was magical, and all from the comfort of your bed! We never tired of the views from both the bedroom and living room. Watching the local wildlife, even on a rainy day was fascinating.
Everything is so peaceful and quiet there, yet within a 10 min walk we were at the local restaurant Daft Eddies, where we dined on Christmas Eve.
wpuld love to experience the Boathouse in the Summer, so I am sure we will be back one day.
Thanks Lindy for all the advice and answering all my questions.
The location on the shore of Strangford Lough is perfect. It is an easy walk to Daft Eddy's for coffee in the morning or dinner at night. Within an easy drive there are a number of excellent restaurants and there are also several National Trust properties with spectacular walks.
We had a great week visiting family in the area.
After several grueling work weeks leading up to our 10-day trip to Ireland, we were fortunate to begin our vacation at the lovely Boathouse Sketrick. This charming two-bedroom converted boathouse sits just up from the western shore of Strangford Loch and a small island of mostly single family homes. Both its living room and master bedroom sport almost full window walls overlooking the Loch. The kitchen is very nicely appointed with a VERY state-of-the-art (translated: need training and a possible engineering degree!) stove, lovely cabinets and a long wooden table around which to gather, perfect for solving all the world's problems. Upstairs bedrooms maximized the slanted ceilings with creative shelving and closet space and the bathroom was updated and fully functional. We had four adults in our party and the space was more than adequate. In addition, the cottage is only a few minutes walk from Daft Eddy's, a very nice, full service pub and restaurant. We dined there twice and enjoyed both meals very much. I would HIGHLY recommend this property and hope to have a chance to stay here again myself.
