what a beautiful, peaceful spot!! If you want to get away from the tourist madness, check out this side of Barbados! We loved it!

This hotel is lovely with a wonderful, wild, windswept setting on the plunging, jungly tropical hills of Bathsheba. This part of the island is so much prettier than anywhere else i saw in Barbados and it feels like you're in a real place, not just a giant tourist resort. The staff were great and the food, though a little overpriced, was delicious, authentic local cooking. I was here on my own surfing, but i think this would be a great place to go with my girlfriend - very romantic. My one gripe was i found it hard to sleep because of the heat. I was on a lower floor where i didn't get much sea breeze and i didn't have air-con. The hotel itself is a charming wooden building with lovely porch balconies to hang out on if you can't make it down to one of the garden's hammocks. Oh and one more little complaint: You're not aloud to smoke anywhere on the premises, even outside, which i thought was a little intolerant and not at all in keeping with the otherwise super-relaxed atmosphere.

We needed a break from the winter weather in upstate NY and wanted to avoid resorts so this was the perfect place for us. A very friendly, helpful staff, beautiful setting, interesting guests, and enchanting vernacular architecture. Open air dining and louvered windows and doors make sure you stay connected to the natural surroundings, with waves crashing on the shore below and a steady breeze off the ocean. A terrific getaway!

The West and South coast areas of Barbados might as well be different islands from the East coast. By car you can make either traverse in less than 35 minutes, but you feel transported to an entirely different environ. Gone are the honking horns, Chefettes and KFCs, the strip malls. The scenery turns to a lush, unbroken expanse of green-topped hills rising above the Atlantic. Non-residential buildings are few and you hear only the twill of the tree frogs. There you find the Sea-U, perched with magnificent views and built to blend in with the natural beauty of its surroundings.

From our friendly late-night greeting at the airport by our Sea-U arranged driver to our final dinner enjoyed on the dining patio that looks directly out over the beaches around Soup Bowl, every detail was perfect. We stayed in a detached apartment that had its own balcony, well worth the slightly higher charge. Although the furniture in the living room wasn’t too conducive to sitting (not so comfy), the big mahogany bed was both beautiful and extremely comfortable, and the open-sided rain-head shower was fantastic for rinsing away the sand at the end of the day. And we enjoyed cold Banks beers and rum on the rocks out on the balcony, listening to the wind in the palms, nightly.

Renee cooks up delicious dinners each night -- island specialties like grilled tilapia in rum butter sauce or black-belly lamb in tarragon-cream sauce. We ate here twice and would’ve one more time if we’d not forgotten to sign up, as the choices on the East coast are honestly slim: Dinah’s is good but overpriced for what you get, Roundhouse is mediocre, and the Atlantis is good but also a bit pricier – and the other couple places are often closed.

Aside from the property’s natural beauty, the tidy and well-appointed apartments, and the dinners, we also enjoyed: the casual setting that allows you to meet your fellow guests (we drank wine well past dinner's ending), the perfectly-placed chaise lounges and hammocks, and chatting with the good-natured and informative Sea Cat (everyone here has a nickname).

Only changes I'd make: 1) more variety at breakfast (fruits, cheeses, or hot items); 2) if they continue to charge for beach towels, they should offer real beach (v. old bath) towels.

If we come back to Barbados, we’d 100% stay on the beautiful, unspoiled East coast – and at the Sea-U – again. I hope Uschi keeps this property just as it is for years to come.

This was my first time to Sea U Guest House and to Barbados. I was very excited about this trip. I am a dedicated surfer and have always dreamed about surfing the famed Soup Bowl. My girlfriend and I arrived in Barbados, rented a tiny car, and headed to Sea U. It was a bit difficult to find at first but after a day of exploring we became familiar with how to get around the Island. Locals were more than willing to help give you direction to where you needed to go.

Sea U is located just up the road from Soup Bowls in Bathsheba. The views from the place are incredible. The sea breeze is calming. The locals and Sea U staff are welcoming (Sea Kat is the nicest guy!). And the rum punch will creep up on you! The food at Sea U was tasty, the place was super clean, and the staff is very helpful with setting things up for you like snorkeling adventures on the west side of the island.

Over all staying at Sea U has been one of the best trips I have ever been on. You can walk to the beautiful beaches and great waves everyday. It is very easy to drive to Bridgetown and or Oistons fish fry on friday nights. Bathsheba is a great alternative to the more touristy parts of Barbados, but at the same time, it is a short drive or bus ride to those places. Bathsheba and Sea U Guest House show you the real Barbados. I would highly recommend staying here, I know I will be returning.
