We found this lovely little guesthouse through the Bed and Breakfast Switzerland service at www.bnb.ch and it was great.
One of the best things about the guesthouse was the location. The town of San Vittore is situated about 15 minutes bus ride away from the Cantonal capital of Bellinzona in a stunningly beautiful valley typical of the Ticino region of Switzerland, with high hills on either side covered in lush green trees and vegetation, with a sweeping vista up to several snow-capped alpine peaks at the head of the valley. From the kitchen of the house, we got a lovely view out to the valley. If you want a touring base that is away from the hustle, bustle and noise of a large town, but still within easy reach of all the big regional attractions, you really couldn't do better.
The only problem we had was finding the property in the first place, as San Vittore didn't seem to have any street names displayed anywhere in the town or a logical house numbering system! It is easy to find when you know how though...We took the train to Bellinzona, which is the nearest station. As we found out, you get to San Vittore by taking the Post Bus for Mesocco which leaves from the forecourt of the station. As you come into San Vittore, you will see a Bed and Breakfast Switzerland sign on a wall on the left hand side of the road. If you get off at the Post Office stop and then walk back to this sign, it will lead you to the house of the proprietor, where you check in and collect the key.
The actual bed and breakfast accommodation is a separate house round the corner, and its really of a very high standard. Its a traditional stone-built house, which means that it stays cool even when the temperatures outside soar, (which they did while we were there - we had glorious weather with temperatures of at least 37 degrees Celsius.) The proprietor was really friendly, our room was very comfortable with a genuine double bed rather than 2 singles pushed together, en-suite bathroom with a powerful shower and even our own kitchen complete with hob and fridge - all the facilities we needed to go self-catering if we had wanted to. We had just come from staying in a hotel in the centre of Lucerne, which was very noisy. The contrast was immediately noticeable - it was blessedly peaceful - perfect conditions for a good night's sleep. The breakfast which we got in the morning was pleasant continental fare - fresh bread and some salami and cheese delivered every morning, with jam and other spreads, yoghurts and fruit juice in the fridge - nothing cooked, but it gave us everything we needed, and of course we could have got our own food in and cooked it ourselves if we had wanted to.
In all, we had a lovely time in the Ca’ di Sciavatin and would definitely recommend it.
