“Great service. Super friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2012

My fiance and I stayed there a while ago, so I don't fully remember the names of the owners. But they deserve a big thank you. They were incredibly helpful, and drastically improved our time in Malaysia through all their advice. They were more than happy to sit and chat for as long as wanted about the many places to visit and see in Malaysia, as well as what to do while there. More importantly, where to stay and what prices to pay. The tours they book for you were amazing actually. The Mossy Forest tour was probably the best tour we did on our year of traveling. I can't remember the name of our guide, but he was probably the most knowledgeable guide we've ever had. Definitely recommend this tour. Spring the extra money for the butterfly gardens if your tour guide is good. Otherwise, it's not really worth it. The restaurant wasn't the best, but the food in town was amazing. Incredible indian food to be found only a few blocks away from Father's.

Room Tip: If you're booking a double room, get one of the ones outside, where you don't have to walk t...

we are family of 4 (2 adults + 2 teens) and were traveling to Singapure/Malaysia in June/July 2011. After we didn't manage to catch the bus in Mersing (the one at 5.30 pm we missed and the one at 9 p.m. was full) we haded to KL next morning. having had bad luck with the bus as well, we had to take the taxi from KL central bus station to Tanah Rata (after 1/2 hour negotiation we paid 80$).Obviously on bad string, our taxi broke down (KL drivers are not skilled for driving uphill, so he broke the machine...) 18 km down of Tanah Rata. this part I rather not explain, as it was frightening...but everything worked well in the end. So after 2 days leaving Mersing we finally reached Tanah Rata about 11 p.m. exhausted, wet (rain) and tired of last 2 days. When standing in the middle of Tanah Rata (the place is really small, but for is it turned out to be haeaven on earth) like this, a man came to us, asking if we are trying to find our hotel. We said no, as we haven't got any reservation (thank god, as we were 2 days late), so we are actually looking for a place to stay. It turned out this man was the owner of Father's Guest House. He offered us a lift to his accomodation, and if it wouldn't suit us,he would be happy to drive us back to center and help us find something else. As I did my homework at TA before leaving Europe, I knew the great rewievs they had and it is difficult to get a free room up there. We were happy about what we saw; no luxury, but clean, nice, very home like atmosphere...so we took 2 rooms. They have great "outdoor" and normal living room, where quests can mingle and share information, tips etc. There is really stunning atmosphere, very relaxed but interesting at same time. Everything was clean, just shared bathrooms are worenout and would need some adaptation. I must say the owner and his wife, but also their staff were very nice, helpfull and full of information for us. We also took the 1/2 day jeep tour (they run their own tour agency as well) to the tea plantation and rain forest, got the most perferct (with very good english as well) guide. The trip exteded to almoast full day, but noone minded :-). Highly recomended!

We still miss Tanah Rata, and were sorry to be there only for 3 days.

cheers, Mojca

Room Tip: some rooms are renovated, but don't know which ones. Anyhow; we were just sleeping there, everyt...

We ve been to fathers guesthouse just for 2 nights but for the price we paid we really had a good comfort and the lady taking care of us was so nice it made our stay even better. She gave us all the tips to organize our tours and travels.
The place was tidy and the rooms as well.
the location is up on a hill so 10 minutes by walk from the center where you find the restaurants etc... but thats fine
So thanks to her

The best choice for stay in Cameron Highlands. The Guest House is a very nice and clean place with the familiar atmosphere and everything you need during your stay in Tanah Rata. It's situated ca 10 min walk from the city center and the bus station. The owners are a very nice and extremly helpfull people. Our room was nice decorated, clean and camfortable, the same attached bathroom. There was free WiFi in the room, on can make caffee or tea in the kitchen in each moment, in the morning simple continental breakfast was offered. Generally the best value for money in the city.

The location of this guesthouse is stunning, but the actual guesthouse is old and poorly maintained. I believe they are either closing down or renovating so maybe things will change. My fiance and I stayed in a private room, which was very basic. The sheets and pillows did not smell clean. The bathroom was very cold as they kept all of the windows open, so there were lots of bugs inside. There is also barely any hot water and everything in the bathroom is broken. I found the staff to be quite rude and not the most helpful. We did book a tour through the guesthouse, which was very good.

I really could have stayed in that beautiful, idyllic setting for years. The guesthouse is a beautiful old converted military hospital and I stayed in a room in which the doors open onto a lovely garden with an amazing view from the top of the hill that it is situated from.

The owner is an absolutely amazing character with so much enthusiasm and it would seem like he would do anything to make his guest happy. You really do feel like his guests which is far flung from the impersonality of big corporate hotels. I actually preferred my time here to any 4 star hotel I have stayed in in the past.

I found the woman in the office to be helpful, despite what others have said. She was very helpful when I asked about WiFi, which, if you're wondering costs 5RMB (about £1) for unlimited use for the duration of your stay. She also offered me a cup of tea.

The little restaurant is nice, but I don't think it was open the day I wanted dinner there, so I'd just check that before you make plans. However, a few minutes walk gives you a load of lovely places to eat in Tanah Ratah.

In the area, it's hard not to notice the rolling tea plantations and I highly recommend the 'BOH' plantation at Sungai Palas. Also, there's a lovely 'pick your own' strawberry farm nearby, which is a nice little thing to do.

The only slight problem I had was that the solar heated showers were not hot and a bit pathetic, even with the extra little electric water heater on, but that wasn't a massive issue. The rooms are not air conditioned, but have a massive ceiling fan, which provides ample air circulation.

Overall, the homeliness of this place makes you want to stay.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the (three?) private rooms which face onto the little grassy garden.

We had a fantastic experience here. It was the best accommodation we stayed in during our asia visit. I dont mean the best as in expensive and treated like queens but value for money, clean comfortable rooms with air con and the people were amazing! Communal BBQs and all the guests were lovely. We made friends with the locals and they were so welcoming. I highly recommend staying here!
