Although we visited this hotel in the middle of February and Ruth Watson would prefer reviews written within 28 days, I hope she would not mind on this occasion as we enjoyed it even more the second time we visited. The restaurant remains excellent with local produce and imaginative cooking. We had a room in the main house again; this time with a panoramic view, more biscuits and a much improved bathroom! We were so sorry that we could not stay longer than 2 nights and will be back again.

Room Tip: We have always stayed in the main house and think these rooms are just great.

To explain the otherwise mysterious comment that Ruth Watson prefers reviews within 28 days, this refers to a small piece I wrote about TripAdvisor in which I said I thought the way to clean up the problems mooted about the site was a) to drop off reports over 2 years old as management/ownership could easily have changed and/or the hotel could have had a complete makeover in that period; b) make sure all reviews were posted under a real name and email address to avoid phoney reports from people who had never stayed; and c) insist on reports being posted within a 28-day period so they again can be tracked and, more importantly, mirror the current state of the hotel, not something experienced a year before.
That said, thank you very much for the generous review especially about the food. And we are glad you like the revamped bathroom(s). We do try!

Stopped for lunch and couldn't have had a more warm a welcome.; service excellent. Food fantastic - especially the crab & leek on toast and the potted shrimp.

if you only ever have one creme brulee before you die - have it here! Fabulous!

It's particular nice to get a lunch review because I am sure a lot of people think we only serve 'proper' food. We know our 'smart pub lunch' is popular and, hopefully, it's because the food is casual but cooked with as much care as the a la carte in the evening. Anyway, who can resist really good fish and chips! Thank you very much for this report and we hope to see you again soon.

Home from a fantastic and relaxing Easter weekend at our favorite place.

Once again the accomodation was great, the food and wine never dissappoint and the staff are the icing on the cake.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the sevice outstanding, a perfect balance.

Tim, David and all the restaurant staff worked tirelessly over a busy weekend, as I'm sure the people behind the scenes did, you should all be very proud.

Finally, thank you for all the Easter treats although the bunny finding was the highlight!

Can't wait for the next time.

I'd had a stressful week. I needed something to look forward to. A little treat away from home to draw a big fat line under the tribulations of work and prepare me mentally to enjoy a bank holiday weekend at home. A nice place to stay, good food and wine and somewhere that wouldn't mind if the dog came too. It shouldn't be too much to ask, should it? I set about Googling, more in hope than expectation. Then I found this place. And it had a special offer. I phoned, thinking there was no chance rooms would still be available at such short notice, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they could accommodate us and the dog. After that the pleasant surprises just kept coming: the lovely warm greeting at reception, the fuss made of our almost-blind dog who could not have been made more welcome, the impeccable service by the friendly and helpful waiting staff, the delicious dinner, the fabulously comfortable room, the magnificent breakfast and the civilised check-out time. We just loved it. We're already planning to return.

Room Tip: We stayed in a garden room, because of the dog, but were in no way disadvantaged by this arrangement. The room was lovely. The room next door was occupied but we were unaware of any noise, so sound insulation was good (and I'm someone who would hear an ant tiptoeing across a thick carpet).

Lovely hotel, stayed in main house. Very good breakfasts, food cooked to order, evening meals also good. Beds very comfortable, good nights sleep. Orford is a nice village with small shops and nice work down to the water front. Try boat trip up the estuary.

Room Tip: We enjoyed having a room in the main house. Better house room was very spacious , with a nice large bathroom.
