I'm adding a belated review for Shepherd's Cottage as the owners Jim and Kate have made an splendid effort to keep it in a lovely condition. The weather in Sept-Oct 2014 was occasionally wet and cold for my Arran cycling holiday, so it was great to be able to come back and switch on the electric fire, and to have a welcoming warmth to come back to.
The photographs on holidaylettings.co.uk are accurate - everything was very clean and all the usual things like towels are provided. A garage for my bike was available too. There are a couple of excellent places nearby to get an evening meal - Best Western Kinloch in Blackwaterfoot gave me a great welcome, and the food was very good also.
Bear in mind the location of Shiskine is very quiet, so you need to be a walker, a cyclist, a writer seeking solitude, or a car owner to come here! But for a place to recharge the batteries and to connect with the natural environment without sitting in a cave, it is hard to beat. Highly recommended.
(I've marked down the rating of the cottage ever so slightly as the wifi coverage was patchy, and a previous guest had noted the same in the guest book. Bring a 3G dongle if you want to remain connected - and even those are not guaranteed in Arran. I will ask the owner to install a repeater. A very minor trouble in an otherwise great property).
