We had some days to spare and decided to go to Tatacoa dessert. It was in the beginning a little bit hard to found our way but when we finally arrive in the desser is was worth the trouble.

You don't need a gide for this. You can go there by tuktuk for 15.000 peso one way. We go that way around 15.00 our. We found some guys that bring us with the motor to the grey part for 40.000 peso two way and a hour there, that is plenty of time for this part. The price is higher because the road is bad.
We wait until it was dark to see the stars and we even saw the milky way! Then we go back by tuktuk (again for 15.000 peso).
This was in April 2018.

This trip can be done on a 3 day weekend from Bogota. There are lots of little posadas, hotels, and places to camp along the main road, or you could stay in Villavieja and take a day trip to the desert. The attractions can be seen in one day but you can stay longer to enjoy the weather and pools if you have time.

Me and my family had the chance to include this activity in our Naventura Package, and it was very well handled! Keep in mind that you need to dress adequately for this activity, bring a cap, hat or a shirt with long sleeves to protect yourself from the heat. Take some sunscreen with you and make sure you bring something to drink (We were lucky enough that it was a bit cloudy, but it was also hot, so better to protect yourself from the sun.

There are two deserts you can walk at, the grey one and the red one. I liked the red one better, since its formations (Estoraques) are really amazing. We had the chance to walk with Fredy Ortiz, our guide for Naventura, who really loves his job.

While you are walking on the grey desert there is a pool built for those who want to refresh a bit, however it is up to you to go in or not at an additional cost (me and my family decided not to, since it was an artificial setting which is impacting a natural place and we simply do not agreed with it.

Go and visit and have an amazing time!

I enjoy walking in nature and taking photographs, and Tatacoa desert was one of the most surprising places I have been to. Wouldn't have expected such a place in Colombia.
