After boats and airplanes, a bridge is the next means of accessing an island, short of a long cold swim. You do not have to have to be an engineer to appreciate its beauty, but it will help in understanding its curves.
If you are a white-knuckle driver crossing long or high bridges, there is a very nice welcome center on the PEI side where you can relax and calm your nerves. Out front, is concrete section similar to those from which the bridge is constructed. It and the information display with video will give you a better understanding of the bridge construction.
The toll is a noticeably CAD46 on the return trip only back to New Brunswick. Major credit cards are accepted. Bridges are expensive to maintain and I feel safety out-weighs the cost of the toll.
The weather was very nice during of our two trips across it, but I’ve read there may be restrictions during severe weather. It certainly doesn’t hurt to check in advance, if the weather is bad.
