We went on a family vacation and stopped at the first reststop and lighthouse under the confederation bridge and it was more than worth it.

We crossed twice and were blessed with spectacular weather. Going to the Island was a sunset trip with a wonderful sky over the beautifully designed and sculpted bridge. The trip back was a mid morning one with a different "feel" to it. One worthwhile thing to do is to visit the visitors' centre on the New Brunswick side. There was a park like area where it was possible to get great pictures of the bridge.

Free to get to then island; $47 per car to return. Good views from the bridge only if your are in a truck or very tall. About 12 minutes across without lines; so, less romantic than the ferry but way quicker.

The only other time I visited PEI was by ferry, just when the bridge construction was announced. An engineering feat so elegant that we pulled over to admire and photograph it on the PEI side. There is a shopping/restaurant complex by the light house there. I bought a bag of local PEI potato chips in the complex and have never tasted better. If you know an internet source, please let me know--I've now looked. I also noticed that PEI potato salad is superior. Just saying--and the bridge got me here.

What a bridge!! Was was in awe driving over it! Once completely across if you pull over the the right there is a parking lot and park with a light house. It has excellent views of the entire bridge!
