“Mi casa es su casa. :-)”

This character casa, overlooking the quieter end of la Paz' famous Malecon, is a delightfully quaint and quirky home away from home. This is an historic home, built in the 'old Mexico' style with no real indoor kitchen, but a combination of storage shelves with a fridge and microwave indoors, along with an outdoor cooking area with RV-style gas stove at the back patio (watch out for ants!), provides very basic cooking and food storage facilities.

Just next to the hallway with the indoor kitchen shelving, the shower-bathroom is large, with a rustic tiled shower with rain-shower head, and is highlighted by hand-crafted finishing details.

The two bedrooms are each a nice size with VERY wonderfully comfortable beds framed by antique metal frames; there's a hand-crafted chest of drawers in one room, and a gorgeous hand-carved wardrobe in the other (storage for a longer stay in scant, but a washer-and-dryer is available in the old 'ice building' at the back of the property).

The living-room area is home to two older but plushly-comfortable couches and a wonderfully deep and comfy armchair, all surrounding a hand-made leather-topped coffee table that creates a memorable focal point for gatherings.

All the rooms are cooled by large ceiling fans; metal-screened wrought iron outer doors and windows provide lots of breezes off the ocean, while traditional solid wood inner doors and window shutters provide security and privacy.

A huge patio area in the front side yard, covered by a lovely lighted palapa, provides a charming place for eating and relaxation (although it's shared with the real estate office at the back of the property, they are most excellent 'neighbours). Another table in the back patio area provides simple seating in the cooking area, although with no view at all and quite uncomfortable in the direct sun (however the chairs are lovely when moved out to the little patio either side of the front door, or near the front retaining wall, where the view of the Malecon and the ocean is spectacular).

All in all, this little casa is not posh, but it is an absolutely delightful jewel if you love the rustic ambiance of old Mexico updated with modern plumbing. We are planning our next stay already!

One note of caution: we had a very poor experience on our (only 15-minute-late) arrival from San Jose del Cabo airport, as a communication mix-up resulted in a key-lock having been put on the front gate, while we were only given the number for a number-lock. We could NOT get in. The manager's phone was out of commission, and we were required, in the end, to find an alternate place to stay for our first night (a lovely place, thanks to a young couple who took us under their wing).

Nonetheless, the casa managers were most excellent after that, ultimately resolving the lock issue, and helping to make sure our stay was SO enjoyable! (Ask for a lock with a key... visibility at the wall and front door is so poor that reading and manipulating the numbers on a number-lock is challenging at best, impossible at worst.)

Despite a few little issues, this turned out to be one the best vacations we have taken, and we'd go back in a heartbeat.

Liked best: We loved the location: the view, the access to the Malecon; and we loved the rustic ambiance.
Liked least: There is no shade in the back patio/cooking area, resulting in VERY uncomfortable use of the outdoor kitchen. A pergola should be erected, perhaps trained with vines (bougainvillea?) to create shade/privacy.

“Very nice little Mexican home near everything”

This is a very nice little home with brick walls, woodbeams, nice bathroom, confortable beds, little kitchen corner (no hoven but fridge, microwave and dishes) so you can enjoy you cereals on the table with seaview, or a nice cold white wine. The garden is beautifull and the palapa makes a good place to relax protected from the sun. You can walk to everything or just enjoy the view. My favorite rental so far !
