I've spent a couple of days at Isla huatulco and have had an great time! The rooms and very nice and clean, loved the common area with bar and pool and the service was excellent as well. Nearby the hotel (2 min by shuttle) there is the hotel's private beach which was a blast! Extremely beautiful with a restaurant serving fresh and delicious sea food Would totally recommend it to anyone going to huatulco! :)

We stayed 1 week in Jan 2018
While the rooms were very spacious, albeit bland and simple in décor the beds were really comfortable, and they appeared to be a newer pillow-top
The towels and face cloths, when you got them were thread bare.
The shower water pressure was pathetic drips and we were unable to set the water temp. It either scolded you or was freezing cold no in between and I thought it was dangerous if you had kids/teens as I got scalded quite bad one day

The food was terrible. Only options were buffet or a very limited poolside menu.
When ordering from the pool menu one night the hotel was literally out or eveything!!! From buns, to tortilla shells. but if we could wait 35 minutes someone would go to the store and buy some...really ? No fries, no veggies it was a total disaster. Our poor waiter was so embarrassed, but not his fault, in the end he had to use his best judgement and get the kitchen to make us a sandwich . Not going to lie I was scared to eat it if this is all they had left in the kitchen!! Shameful of a hotel to operate this way.

The beach club...HA !, in my opinion was just a huge chunk of cement, the pool was missing tiles and the FILTHy black crusted, broken and cracked lounge chairs were disgusting. To call this a club is laughable. The food and service there was also medicre at best.
there are far better hotel out there than this one...keep looking

Room tip: dont book here if you can help it

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The rest of the resort was lacking. Pool was kinda gross when you got up close- lots of missing tiles, weird scum. Food was not great and quite expensive. Beach club was sad- barely any chairs or umbrellas, beach wasn’t swimmable, pool was better there, kids playground was awful. Service at the beach club was great though.

If you are looking for a clean comfy room at a good price this place is fine but not if you want a resort experience.

We have never stayed at La Isla but have taken advantage of day passes to the beach club, Latitudes for several years
Have enjoyed doing this until this last trip
Not enough staff, poor service, inferior menu- some of our small group served quickly others totally forgotten about
Pool was murky and obviously not clean water - a man came and poured in some chlorine midday while people were in the pool
Very disappointing - club needs to be much better maintained before we would return

We went to La Isla Huatulco on an almost last-minute (booked a week ahead) holiday with Air Canada Vacations. We thought we got a "smoking hot" deal for all-inclusive at $753 for a week. We met some others who got an even better deal at around $560. So when you get this great a deal in a fabulous location with terrific weather, you shouldn't expect everything to be perfect or to the same standards they would be, if you are paying much more. That being said, we had no major complaints and had a great time.
The best parts for us were:
1. The people we met. In a smaller place like this you tend to get to know people better and we had some great times and conversation with the people we met at the resort.
2. The beach club is a great facility to be able to access. The hotel is not directly on a beach, but you have unlimited access to Latitude 15 Beach Club via a shuttle or 20 minute walk. It is also accessible to other hotels, but most people seemed to be from La Isla. The beach at the beach club is wonderful to swim in, however the sand drops quickly and it is sometimes closed due to rough conditions. It was closed the first few days we were there. Red flags were up and the lifeguards would whistle people out of the water. Lovely when it was open on the other five days however. We also went to Santa Cruz and Entraga beaches, which are worth a visit. We spent a lot of time in the pool at the beach club with margarita in hand, from where you can look out over the ocean and the rocky coast. The food at the beach club was good, mostly shrimp and fish. We ate shrimp, fish ceviche and guacamole for lunch here (all part of the all-inclusive) almost every day.
3. Check-in was efficient and the staff at the front-desk were always helpful. Everyone received a beer while waiting in line. The safe in our room didn't work initially and the drapes didn't close all the way, but these problems were quickly resolved.
4. The beds were firm, but we thought they were quite comfortable. The pillows are definitely not comfortable though.
5. Our room on the second floor was large with high ceilings, a small balcony overlooking the pool, and a couch (not a comfortable couch though). The shower worked well as did the fridge. It was not always restocked with the beer or pop if you drank it however.
6. The pool at the hotel was good, but we preferred to spend our pool time at the beach club.
7. Breakfasts were totally fine. You can't go too far wrong with omelettes and eggs cooked to order, yogurt, fresh pineapple etc. A few things would help though - salt and pepper shakers, butter for toast and real juice. Orange juice that isn't made from crystals would seem to be an easy improvement in the tropics.
8. As others have pointed out the staff at the bar, restaurant and front desk were very personable and anxious to please. It was sometimes very slow at the beach club, but there was nothing to prevent you from going up to the counter yourself.
9. The beer was in bottles, not draft and there were usually several varieties.
The not-so-good:
1. The biggest negative issues were associated with the dinners. Because it is a small hotel, you shouldn't expect a lot of variety, but we thought the quality was not consistent and the hot food was sometimes cold. (they may have been having trouble with the burners). Two dinners were quite enjoyable, but two others were quite unsatisfactory. At best, there was nothing special at dinner. The best parts of dinner were the things that were grilled fresh for you and the guacamole. The desserts were small and a little disappointing. As a result we went out for dinner 3 times with other fellow Canadians. The restaurants were great and we felt we could do this without guilt, because we were paying so little for the all-inclusive.
2. The AC is not too strong, but generally kept up if we ran it at maximum. We talked to some people who had AC issues.
3. The music was occasionally very loud from the pool bar in the evening, but was usually shut down around 12:00. It would be nice if the bar staff exerted a little more control over this, but it didn't bother us that much.
4. The bar at the beach club ran out of beer one day, at the same time that the blender stopped working. There doesn't seem to much reason to run out of beer other than poor planning.
5. The hotel should definitely run the shuttle more often. It only takes a few minutes and the staff are available. People were always waiting for a shuttle or rushing to catch one. They only run every 2 or 3 hours, which is not nearly often enough. That being said, you can also walk to the beach club in about 15-20 minutes or take a cab for $2.00.
All-in-all we had a great holiday and this is a very nice Mexican destination. The scenery is spectacular - rocky coast and coves rather than a big strip of sand. The two nearby towns are about a 20 minute walk or $2.00 cab ride. They are smaller than most other destinations (PV, Cancun etc), and are quaint with nice parks and squares.
You can get incredibly good deals to stay at Isla Huatulco and will definitely get your moneys worth if you pay under $1000 for a week. You will have a good time if you set your expectations accordingly and enjoy the company of the other guests and staff that you will meet there.
