5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2012

This property and the geographical location are simply Awesome!!! This is rural, tropical Mexico people!!! I cannot phantom how people expect to have a "home" like experience in the jungles of Mexico??
Anyway .. we have been three time... love it!! Only Las Brisas!!! though as the other hotels are nice .. but the beaches are unswimable!!! Las Brisas has awesome Beaches.. and snorkeling.. the food is good and plentiful... and the walking up hill to rooms is good for burning off the over indulgence!!!
over all this is a 4 out of 5 and we will go back anytime because it just gets better each time....
Ohhhh you have to visit LaBoCana when in Huatulco.... and do the river rafting down the mountain river ... and out into the ocean,... UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Room Tip: Stay in "Estrelas" the stars units and try for and ocean view room!!! really great view fr...

Yes, my fifth time to Las Brisas in Huatulco and let me tell you, it was back to it's great standard. Was there just before Xmas and it was a bit disappointing. Seems like they've got it together again just four months later.

I was very happy to have received an upgrade to a Junior Suite after emailing the hotel directly after booking. I figured the fifth time had to warrant at least a fruit basket. Well they were very kind providing an upgrade. It was in the Estrellas section and was nice to have a patio outside. I did however find that the Junior Suite wasn't really functional. The patio divides the bedroom section from the kitchen/wet bar room. It's strange that you have to go outside - worrying about locking yourself out of your main area, to go to the other room to grab a drink out of the fridge or make some coffee. Very odd but I guess this was the old school style of the Euro Club Med back in the day when the hotel was built.

TIP: Estrellas section, ocean view is the BEST if you are getting a standard room. Fantastic.

A LA CARTE: Get your a la carte restaurant bookings all done the day after you arrive; you'll have much better chance of getting your preferred times. Mediterraneo is spectacular. Though it's inside, it's the best food. Funny thing, been at this property five times and have never gone to the Kasbah - just not appealing menu wise.

WARMEST WATER: activities beach... maybe because it's further into the Bay but the water is noticably warmer. Get there fairly early though as it gets filled up under the palapas quickly. Personally, love the sun and there are always lots of extra sun beds to pull out onto the beach if you don't want shade. Cutest and kindest little old gentleman works the towel station and sweeps up in this area. He is just the best! Always smiling and friendly. I've seen him numerous times and am always pleased that he's still there when I return. Koodos to the hotel for keeping him on staff. Says a lot about them.

GOLF: the course nearby is ok. Not what you expect of a professionally designed course in the US or Canada but a nice diversion. Book your tee times and rentals directly with the hotel for great discounts. You'll always run into interesting characters on the course; wealthy people with homes in Huatulco - very interesting to chat with.

The service, cleanliness and hospitality at this hotel is excellent. I actually didn't even go into the town of La Crucesita this time around. It's cute to visit a few times; buy some knick knacks but not much to see if you've seen it a few times.

The heat of Huatulco and hospitality of Las Brisas is what keeps me coming back. If it was not rainy in the summer, I'd take the two or three planes to get there off season. Unfortunately, that's not the case and I don't want to tarnish the fantastic winter/spring experiences I expect there.

If you love down to earth, natural and hot locales, this is for you. I've travelled to many places but this is my favourite for pure relaxation with guaranteed spectacular weather. Cannot wait to go again... maybe in December. My bartenders are expecting me. :-)

Room Tip: Estrellas ocean view are fantastic for regular rooms. Brisas Beach Club great if you like hanging o...

We always book our vacations at spots where nature is one of the attractions. We had tried Sandos Caracol on the Mayan Riviera only to find that on-site condo sharks were in operation and also that four square kilometers of mangroves had been bulldozed to make room for yet another golf course. However, following what some friends had said about Las Brisas Huatulco and the birds and care taken on the resort re habitat and nature, my wife and I decided to give this vacation spot a 'go'. We were not disappointed. In two days with a local guide who is paid by Las Brisas, we spent three hours in the immediate area and ended up with 73 species, two of which were endemic to this area. We definitely are going back and we will avail ourselves of this guide's services for birding the wider area.

We are in our late 30s and have been to Huatulco in 2009. We have travelled AI in the Mayan Riviera, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Cuba & Dominican...Huatulco is still tops our favourite as it is not as touristy nor crowded & is clean, beautiful and yes, still safe.

Hot, hot 30s during the day. Bring your sunscreens/glasses, hats, light airy clothing & surprisingly not humid (need moisturizer for those w. dry skin). Although the heat was welcomed, think i would rather go bk next time in the fall/winter. AC & fan in room was fine but could be bit loud for the light sleeper.

Chk in was quick, the ride zipped us to the estrellas complex. Rm was fair size overlooking the ocean. Clean. Safe was easy to use. Shower bit tricky as you need to turn both knobs and sometimes there was no hot water. True there are few cracks in the tiles but no probs. No tub for those wondering.

Tips: Bring own towels. Ones provided were rough.
Do NOT flush too much TP down the toilet. Easily clogs. Happened once in the night, surprisingly found that the phone lines were DEAD. Thkfully next morning the janitor came up like in 5 mins after our call to fix the issue.
Saw bug spray provided in closet but didn't really see big bugs in the room...there were these tiny tiny bugs by the sink....i just dropped some peppermint oil all around and that seemed to repel them.
Bring your own hair dryer..one there is not effcient enough.

King bed was firm but good.

Lotsa walking...about 10mins scenic walk to the main lobby where the restaurants, entertainmt & beaches were. You could always call for the carts for a ride. We walked more in the evening as it was cooler.
Tips:
Find the Bontanica garden to chk out flowers, many singing birds, hummingbirds & squirrels.
Just before the lobby sort of a stone platform is always a big iguana lounging about in the mid afternoon sun. Few hanging out on the rocks through out the grounds and by the beach walk way.

Look for the 4th non swimmable beach. Secret beach is behind the mexican restaraunt. This where they used for weddings and private evening set up dinners. Good for pics. Lotsa of colorful birds.

Chk out the fast crabs on beach side rocks.

When you head up the long stairway from the first bar/washrm area, do not walk too close to the right side. Few people have bumped their heads into these wall platforms that stick out.

You can refill your water bottles infront of the main bar. LOOK into the water dispenser first. We found this bee floating in it.

Main buffet always had seats. We were surprised there was a line up about 20mins on the wkend...long wkend for the locals and there was a tennis tournament on the property. Never seen so many local families w. kids before all about...no problem but they left as fast as they came.

Main buffet had variety. Always meat/fish options, salads, good sweet papaya, sweet desserts, breads. You won't starve but food was just average.
TIPS:
Fresh green juice in the bk:fresh mix of celery, parsley, oj & nopal juice is very refreshing.
Do NOT overload on the cheese & creamed desserts like the 3 milks cake. Although very good, they leave them out rm temp and yes, caused STOMaCH TROUBLES. Not just us, others mentioned this. Hit me one morning, so weak i had to rest...thkgdness for the probiotics i brought to take...but all good by late afternoon...we just avoided eating them the rest of the trip.
Beef, fish & shrimp sometimes over cooked ....take less to avoid wasting. Hard working waiters worth tipping.

Beach by mexican restaurant had waiters coming by asking if you needed drinks. People snorkled here and were able to see lots of fish. Calm and not as busy as the main and kid's beach.

The gym, basket ball and tennis/squash courts were barely used by guests. Didn't see anyone with golf clubs.

Cab rides were cheap to La Cruceita. Safe. Bring pesos. Told by local that many taco places open up in the evening only.

Tips: If you were to stand looking out of the church, cross the park to the market area, to the right of the market, 2-3 blks you can what the locals uses as daily grocers..you see butchers, clean fruit & veggies stores with variety of fresh items, dried chiles & herbs. Few tortilla makers.
From the park, look for big sign PALETAs, this is where you can get popsicles & slushes. Just nearby is the bakery across the artesian weaver shop (note, if you head further behind another blk & half on Flamboyan st is another weaving place called Textilarte with 3 or 4 weaving machines with better prices on products).

Chk out wooden colorful creatures known as alejebres. All sizes. Best price at the oaxacan crafts shop which is few doors down from El Sabor restaurant.

Chk out mexican opal pieces. Note small opal rings should only about 35ea. Shops across organic coffee place is cheaper and willing to size & make deals more readily than the places that have salesmen taking customers to their stores. Also shops surrounding main market are the ones where you can make more deals.

Pluma coffee is cheaper at the coffee plantations.

Wished we had more time to try the Sabor oaxacan restuarant, terra cotta & gone bk to the kristal which was one of our most memorable meals.

If u are up for it, talk to your rep or ask for taxi driver Eduardo from the bell boys. He offers english tours for good prices. We had arranged a 3hr guided tour of the monday market at pochutla....sadly we had to cancel due to the stomach issue. $80USD for 2.

Garden or eco lovers have to chk out Hagia Sofia sabiduria sagrada. They provide pick up service, breakfast, 2hour walking tour full, traditional lunch & a dip in a nearby mini waterfall. 50usd ea was WAY worth it. Beautiful plants, deep in the forest, a definite big project. The manager spent the whole time with us, talk about personal service...we were the only ones out there! More details on my Hagia sofia post about this.

In Chahue is a day spa Xquenda. Had place all to ourselves! Relaxing massages & complimentary mud baths. You can use the pool, gym and access to the beautiful chahue beach. More info about this on my Xquenda spa post. 60usd ea. Fidel was very hospitable and even showed us the available rooms for rent.

I would go bk to Las Brisas if we got a deal . We paid 1045 ea. We would likely try other resorts or even the bbs or Xquenda suites.

Austa lluego Huatulco... for now!

We read in one review that the reviewer was reluctant to rate this hotel because he didn't want other people to discover it! How true; this place was a paradise! We went for a week in March and were not disappointed. Stayed at the compound the whole time & enjoyed the beach, flora & fauna. The food was typical AI; totally acceptable. The specialty restaurants were indeed special; we went four times during our weeks' stay. My husband spent time on the beach, in the water & snorkeling at the coral reef. The bay was absolutely gorgeous! One evening there was a wedding reception on the premises and they were shooting the most beautiful fireworks over the bay; what a sight! Definitely not a "romantic getaway" destination for couples; there were families with children having fun. The room complexes (called "Mountains", "Clouds", and "Stars") are built on the surrounding hills, so there is a great deal of walking (up and downhill) to get anywhere, but there are always shuttles going by to give you a lift. Everything was clean & lovely, the staff was friendly, helpful, & attentive.
We were concerned for our safety when planning our vacation in Mexico (we've been to both coasts), but this location in the extreme southern coast of Mexico was quiet & serene...and very safe. Las Brisas does it up right; I, too, am reluctant to spread the word about it. We will be going back...;-D

Room Tip: "Stars" room complexes were located on highest area of property, then "Clouds"...

Just returned from two wonderful weeks in this Mexican paradise. We have visited many places in Mexico, but this one really stands out. Could go on and on, but to focus- the weather is perfect, the beaches are wonderful, the food is so fresh and gorgeous. If you are into meat and fried food- no idea what that is like, but the fruit and veggies are out of this world. Also it's a nature lovers dream. One of the highlights was waking up and going onto the balcony and watching and listening to the birds. wow. We did the research so we were not expecting five star luxury. Because the people are so wonderful that kind of thing really doesn't matter that much. The only negative thing I can think of to say is that there is no air circulation in the main restaurant- and air conditioning is very weak. But we got over that after the first day.
The service we received was outstanding. Especially all the bellboys; Miguel, Heberierto- all of them. They were so friendly and fun, we miss them almost as much as the weather and the papaya!
For activities- please visit Carlos at Huatulco Activities. He is terrific! Great service, excellent prices. We took a 7 bay snorkelling tour as well as the Waterfall/Coffee plantation tour. Have to recognize Saul from the waterfall tour-he was our guide on that trip and he was wonderful. We learned a lot, and laughed a lot too.
Overall, we fell IN LOVE with Huatulco. Definitely expect to return.

Room Tip: Definitely pay more for a balcony. You won't regret it. We stayed in a Family Suite in the Estre...

A couples only vacation.....arrived Mar. 6, departed March 13. Great weather, 28 degC by 930am, and rolls into low 30's until 530 or so....so the weather was fantastic.
A global Turtle Symposium was happening until the 10th, interesting mix of people but all friendly and having a good time when not at work.
The lay-out of Las Brisas, though different from typical "hotels", fits well with the eco-system.....tucked directly into /onto the hill-side...sure, it means a possible walk if desired, or use of the trams/carts they have.
The drivers are very knowledgable, helpful and friendly not to mention accommadating. But the walks are very relaxing and provide health benefits not to mention a good appetite before meals.
We upgraded to Beach Club with great sunrise view. Worth it.
All meals (buffet meals in cluding breakfats and / or a la' carte) were very good, some of the best compared to other trips to Mexico we've taken.
Beaches are great, good snorkeling. good servcie at the beaches and bars....service from the staff in general was good. Very few beach vendors but the ones that show are very respectable.....good pricing, good quality items and very accomodating.
Quick, in-expensive access to town for good shopping.....somethign we didn't do enough of.

I/we would go back again. Almost too hot for the wife, I love the heat though.
Hotel is showing a bit of it's age, but service is good, the place is clean and provided more than what I'd expected.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Beach Club ahead of time.
