“Very disappointing.”
Review of Cenaduria El Tunel - CLOSED

Cenaduria El Tunel
Cuisines: Mexican
Description: It's run by these sweet, older women. We described it as "Mexican home-cooking." It's all homemade and simple, but SOOO good. The mole is delicious! As is the tortila soup, and chicken dishes.

Remembering E Tunel from years past, I was anxious to visit there. This time the food was inedible, really bad. We had to abandon our dinner. We were the only diners and that was not true in the past. I found carbonized food particles in my enchilada. The horchatta was thin and overly sweet. There was dried food on the bottom of one plate.

We give this place five stars. Why? Certainly not because of its uncharming decor, its so-so cleanliness, its lack of English, or its plain-Jane waitresses. It's none of that for sure.

This place is AUTHENTIC Mexicano. If you're a tourist and just stepped off the plane, you'll probably struggle to recognize anything on the menu and no staff member will be able to explain. But this is where you go to experience a genuine Mexican eatery. Forget the Boston Pizzas and Earls back home. These are Mexican dishes, this is a different world, and you will be richer for the experience.

Look around you, and might feel the thrill of knowing you're the only foreigner. We did. We also had the feeling this is a family-run operation. Our no-frills food was as fresh as it gets. The beer was ice cold. The prices were dirt cheap. The staff were friendly and honest. How can we not recommend it? Go, and appreciate it for NOT being what you are used to back in your sterile, over-regulated world.

We found this place on the city tour. We went back to try it. It's absolutely amazing!! Staff spoke broken but good English.
I had the tacos which are to die for. My husband had soup and a few other things. We walked out spending $11 for dinner! We've gone twice on this trip and will likely go again before we leave.

We went with a local friend because my parents had been there 30 years ago and knew it to be good authentic food. No more.
As we sat down we were told the only beverages were pop and margaritas. So we ordered the latter - tasted like soda syrup. Asked for new ones and they said no. Full charge and we didn't drink them.
Went there for horchata and they didn't have it (traditional beverage).
"Only on weekends "
Ordered tostadas because they were pictured with avocado "no avocado" so changed my order to chicken enchiladas. The meat was cold as was my husband's and mom's meal. Son's tacos were warm. Food served with a styrofoam cup of greasy "salsa" to "heat the food" but there was no way anyone would put it on their food.
Our friend from Mazatlán graciously offered constructive feedback and suggested to never serve that salsa to customers. The waiter didn't apologize, didn't thank her, nothing.
WORST meal ever. Do NOT go here!!!! (We also tried the mole enchiladas and asada/chicken All terrible. Most of the food was left on the plates.)

Went there for dinner on a weekend night and were the ONLY customers. Felt very sad. Staff milling around with nothing to do. Many items on the menu not available. Food run of the mill. Place was cozy and staff friendly but it just didn't seem to be doing enough business to keep the food fresh.
