My wife and I booked a day trip with Unique to CHACALA / YELAPA TAPA We arrived early and almost left with the small 3 1/2 hour tour but where pulled out of the group to meet our guide for our day long adventure. Dino our guide informed us we were the only people that had booked that tour on that particular day so it was just the three of us. We had a drive first to get to out departure point. We hopped into a SUV and drove for an hour to a town called El Tuito (I think) Along the way Dino shared stories about the history of the area and answered any questions we had.
When we got to the departure point they had another ATV waiting in a small garage that also had a toilet for a quick pee break. It could have used a bit of clean up but it did the trick. Not very private for my wife either! We talked about where we were going and Dino suggested we do the Mayto Beach route instead and we put our faith in him to make the best decision. It turned out to be VERY COOL! The beach was 13km long and about 120 yards wide and we drove almost the full length of it without seeing a single person. When we got to the end of the beach there was a little hotel at "Lover's Beach" We had Coronas for $1 from the hotel owner and he lent me some snorkeling gear to go swim around the rocks. It was very clear water and really pretty.
We were also taken to a turtle preservation camp and got see some baby turtles and then we were off to our next destination. The small fishing town of Tehuamixtle was very quaint and quiet. We had a cheap lunch (not included) at a restaurant on the beach and enjoyed the views and serenity.
After about an hour here we headed back through the Sierra Madre Mountains along dusty roads, through very remote towns where the children run out of the schools just to wave and through some small creeks which was nice for cooling off.
The whole trip lasted about 8 hours and was a lot of fun. Dino our guide was very friendly and informative and took good care of us.
