Due to our flights and other hotel, we had to find a hotel for one night.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon 25 years ago. We thought it would be fun to stay here for one night.

It wasn't.

This place has so much potential, the trees and grounds could be amazing, but it's just an old run down hotel.

Service? Mediocre at best.

We (2 adults, 2 kids, 9 & 7 year old) stayed here from 3/30-4/4, 2016. The hotel is an older resort but had a great time due to outstanding service by the restaurant servers,Don Angel, Omar. The bar tender, Pedro and most of the staff. My kids also enjoyed the pajama party at Kamp Krystal on friday night.

To summarize, the management of this resort has cut corners with every amenity, and the photos and slide shows are out of date to purposely misrepresent the resort's amenities. Why else would they advertise a swim up bar that is no longer there? That is but one example. We stayed at a five star resort just last year that cost us $1250 each for the week, all in, all inclusive with swim up bars, excellent food and champagne at breakfast and the bars were open from 9am to 2am. However, at Krystal Vallarta, the one bar near the pool, does not open until 11am and is supposed to be open until 11pm. Most nights, the management was trying to be sneaky and close it by 10pm, until we took the matter up with the bar manager. We were not at the bar most nights, as we had to go off the resort to get decent food, so we don't know what time that pool bar was closed. Breakfast and lunch were mediocre at best, with the management again being sneaky; did not advertise that bacon, club sandwiches, even simple french fries, could be ordered under the all inclusive plan we paid for! A huge disappointment overall, this resort is at the very best a 3 star resort, yet we paid more than $1500 each! The hot tubs were lukewarm at best. On the positive side, the room and beds were clean and comfortable, no complaints there. The sprawling resort was indeed blessed with natural beauty; many palms, vegetation and nice villas that were time shares, from what we understood. Shuttle drivers were courteous and deserving of tips. Value for the money? Definitely not.

Room Tip: The villas look nice, if you are not going to this resort under the all inclusive plan, see if you can stay in one of them.

We loved the place! We were so surprised by the large room and how pretty it was. The bed was hard but we could sleep on it ok. The pillows were not good but they were clean. We are picky on our pillows. I would recommend bringing your own if you can! The grounds were beautiful and had many plants and flowers. It was clean and the staff was great. They helped anyway they could, would get our drinks, clean up our plates, and talk with us. Loved the drinks and the food was good also. Clean pools and wonderful beach and great entertainment. We were there from Monday to Saturday. Did karaoke one night and would love to find the sweet girl who sang with me. Her family and her were great and we loved visiting with them.

We were able to book a room here on short notice over spring break Paid for a king room but got two doubles (not queens). Its a short walk to Sorianas supermarket to the north and Walmart is further up the street. An Outback Steak House is right across the street, and of course the bus stops in front to whisk a person downtown (8 pesos) to the malecon, the restaurants, and the real charm of PV.
I'm not going to badmouth Krystal, you can read the other reviews for that. But EVERYONE should READ THIS before staying here: We were sitting out on the balcony enjoying the evening and closed the balcony door to keep the cool in and the door locked automatically and we were locked out! We had a heck of a time alerting someone to call security because we don't speak the language. We had left everything in the room, were very grateful when a security man finally came into our room and freed us from our balcony.
The front desk does not change money, the closest place to do that is Walmart, and I'll say a little about that. If a person shops at Walmart they will give change at the official exchange rate, otherwise a person takes a small hit at the Exchange booth, but its still a better exchange rate than can be found downtown.
I would stay at Krystal again, its not my first choice but in a pinch you bet I would.
