“Walking along The Malecon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2013

It is definitely something everyone should do. You can people watch and enjoy the views of the ocean. Stop along any of the outdoors restaurants for a delicious bite to eat. Shop from the local vendors or buy street food for fun. The views are incredible. It is an easy walk from most downtown hotels.

“A Must”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2013

You can take a bus to the Malecon which my wife and I did and had a great time with all the shops and things to see and eat. Lots of really good places to eat along here or just off of it.

“Good Place to Walk and Enjoy the Town, But Bring Bug Spray at Nite.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2013

The Malecon was only a short walk from our resort. We went during the day and had an appetizer at one of the places along the way with a good, freshly squeezed margarita. There are interesting, large statues lining the boardwalk along with many stores, restaurants. The end further South is the Cathedral (up the hill) and the flea market. There is also an outdoor amphitheater, that is pretty entertaining with kids coming on stage and entertaining the crowds. There's also a Naval Museum next to the amphitheater. It's free and air conditioned ;). Fireworks are displayed each evening off shore.... v. nice, romantic place at night.

Bring bug spray for legs and arms -- the little locals put the bite on us fiercely, several itchy welts the next AM, and no they weren't bedbugs (which we suspected at one point, but validated they were from "moscas at the Malecon".

“It keeps getting better”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2013

Are there other boardwalks in other parts of the world? Yes, of course there are, and a cynic might say that if you have seen one, you've seen them all. But then, what is the point of traveling if you bring that attitude with you?

A lot has been done to this area over the years and it continues to be improved. The most recent change of closing off the road and widening the whole walkway was an inspired and progressive choice made by the leaders of the area. It was always nice to walk along the small boardwalk and see the art, but now it has a much better "feel" about the whole experience.

If I was going to criticize anything is that the change has allowed the stores, which were once across the street, to have their guys standing out there trying to get your business. I'd have to say the tequila stores are the worst and they really don't take no very well. That said, all you have to do is favor the ocean side and just ignore them. "No hoy" does pretty well ("not today" and pronounced more like "noy"). If they say "mañana". Say "no mañana" or "tal vez" (maybe)

Great art along the way is to be seen. Some of it has been there forever and is world famous (the mermaid riding the sea horse) and some of it is much newer.

I've been to a LOT of cities in Mexico, and Puerto Vallarta represents its best

“Great atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2013

The $1 drinks at the bars along the boardwalk are excellent-the blended Margaritas rock! The sunset was stunning and the the atmosphere was awesome-loads of people wandering about having a good time. What a pretty boardwalk-a must see.
