“Best all-inclusive ever”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

We just got back-- fantastic experience! Can not wait to return. We met many many people that have been there before. Service was incredible! I can't speak for the person below who was obviously at the resort when we were but we hung out with the wedding party in the pool yesterday and they all had a very fabulous time. Everyone we met went on and on about how great the resort was. Someone clearly has a need for vengeance, but their review does not match anyone else who actually *stayed* at the resort as a guest.

Things we loved:
* Incredible service. Staff were uniformly friendly, knowledgeable, warm, and attentive. Always smiling, always offering great conversation. A shout out to Eddie, Fernando, Ramon...list goes on. Imagine sitting at the hottub at night and without asking, they deliver champagne? Refill your margarita before you even ask? Ring your bell to your room to deliver random goodies- snacks, drinks, toiletries...
* So many restaurants to choose from, and so many great options on the menus. Some food was a miss- the salmon was too dry, some pastries tasted stale. Yet more often than not the food was fabulous: the seafood salad at Oceana, the fish tacos at Seaside grill, the endless salads and fresh fruit always were incredible.
* LOVED the coffee shop for double espressos and pastries or snack food 12 hours a day.
* Using our coupon to upgrade on the last day to a deluxe jacuzzi suite (jacuzzi on the deck) was so so worth it!
* Pools were perfectly heated so never too hot or cold, even on our overcast days.
* Full and lively energy at the resort, yet never a line up, or a shortage of chairs at pool or beach.
* Staff did a great job of attracting lots of joiners to activities, but you never felt pressured to do anything at all.
* You absolutely could get any type of drink, with any specific type of alcohol brand you asked for. NO watered down drinks here. Good lord no...but maybe it should have been :)
* The 24 room service- always fast, hot, and excellent quality
* Room in old tower was SO CLOSE to the ocean. Holy cow. I've had a lot of ocean view rooms before but this was something else. You could really hear the ocean. Loved it.
* Relatively few hawkers, probably because the beach is private and enclosed by cliffs
* Super easy to get into town by cab ($5)
* Spotless and clean throughout
* No wrist bands, no towel cards...once inside the gates you were treated like royalty
* Gym was cool and more than adequate equipment (not always the case in Mexico)
* That wi-fi wasn't free except in the Preferred Tower (It was important for us to avoid all internet!).

Things I might change (but I'm really scraping the barrel here to be as useful as possible but really, these are trivial to me):
* I'd like clearer, warmer, calmer water (not the resorts fault, just Pacific Mexico)
* Skip the whole coupon thing (which really just bring the stuff like spa treatments down to normal prices if you use them). I'd rather have just been able to go to my room when I arrived than sit through the coupon thing which is really just designed to get us to sign up for a sales pitch during our trip.
* Give people free wi-fi everywhere. For us it was great to avoid all signs of work via the internet, but in this day and age it seems 'cheap' to charge for it (and runs counter to all other aspects of this generous resort that does not otherwise do any nickel and diming).
* Concierge wasn't that helpful (unless you want to shop, which we did not...seemed unable to think outside a narrow box of what activities we might partake in that did not involve tourist traps and shopping).

Room Tip: 1617 was perfect- not too far from elevators, totally quiet, spotlessly clean, and so close to ocean...

First time to a Dreams resort. First time to Puerto Vallarta. I've been to Iberostar Playa Del Carmen (a top notch adults only all inclusive, so it's hard to go up from there).

Airport: Listen to what everyone says. Avoid the timeshare people. Just keep walking and don't listen to what they're saying. Avoid eye contact. But in addition to this, get your bags quickly from baggage claim. We had to take our daughter to the restroom and in the meantime, they had cleared all the bags from our flight and taken the baggage to their office. Crazy fast. There are taxis outside of the door, but if you want the cheaper taxis, go across the street.

Check-in: Champagne and a cool towel after a bumpy, exhaust fumed taxi ride is always appreciated. There was a lot of construction going on around the entrance to the resort, so there was a little bit of traffic, but not too bad. The actual check in was okay, but then they try to sell you on the 'coupons' for various stuff (timeshare related) and it's really not the best way to start your vacation. The upgrade to the newer part of the hotel is ridiculously expensive and not worth it IMO. I actually met a couple who had checked into the older part and then decided they wanted to move to the new wing (thought they wanted more space for their toddler), schlepped all their stuff at night and then when they saw the new room, they moved all their stuff back to the old tower. They said it wasn't worth the price difference.

Rooms: The rooms have seen better days. But overall, they were clean and the view of the ocean never grew old. It was just the little things like water pressure in the shower that were a minor annoyance. The bed was comfortable and the housekeeping women were always eager to help us out with anything we needed.

Grounds: The hotel and the grounds aren't that big. We would need to stroll our baby around to sleep and you would be walking back and forth from the old tower, through the lobby area, to the restaurants, and then back. Didn't see that many ramps. Lots of stairs.

Restaurants: Our favorite was the Seaside Grill (really yummy ceviche and salads with a killer view). Funny thing was, our least favorite was the Mexican restaurant, El Patio, I think it was called. We had breakfast most mornings at the World Cafe and the selection was pretty great. The woman who makes the omelettes is a pro and a total sweetheart. The fruit was really fresh also. Whenever we wanted a sweet treat, we would stop by the Coco Cafe for a cappucino, dessert or even a candied apple. The servers at most of the restaurants were great. Oceana's servers were a little all over the place (don't know if some of them were new), but service was really slow even though there weren't that many people when we first got seated. When it got really busy, we would have to wave someone down to get anything. One of the great things about Dreams is that you don't have to make reservations, but that also means that at the peak times, there is a bit of a wait time.

Pools: This was one of the weak points of this resort. The main pool didn't have that many seats. They were always taken before we got there. Also, the bar is right next to the kids section, so you have people who are drinking and partying next to kids in their floaties. The adults only tranquility pool was tiny and the las palmas pool was always dirty with leaves from the trees above and i never saw anyone actually swimming in it. There were two wedding receptions held there in the 6 days we were there though. Loud music from the speakers easily heard in our room. Didn't bother us too much, but just mentioning in case anyone cares about that sort of thing. It was nice that you didn't have to worry about getting towels though.

Beach: The beach is very nice. It's clean and the water is beautiful to look at. There are many more chairs out at the beach, so that is where a lot of people would lounge. There were vendors walking around, but they're not pushy at all and more than anything, you'd want to purchase something because they're carrying around heavy ponchos/blankets/etc. on their backs all day. It was also nice being able to order whatever drink from your lounge chair and the service was great.

Staff: This is one of the areas that this resort shines. The entertainment staff were almost always smiling and having a good time with the guests. They tried their very best to make sure the guests were enjoying themselves. The servers at the restaurant were mostly friendly (we just ran across one grumpy older gentleman at World Cafe who just looked like he hated his job. we didn't even ask him for anything. we got our own juice, ketchup, etc. lol) They even had a Caribbean night, with food, tables, entertainment right on the beach. When it was Superbowl, they had a huge party and played the game on multiple big screens on the beach. A well-oiled machine. Impressive!

The hotel is family friendly in that they have a kids club (3 and up). They seem to have a good balance of families and the 20 something year old partyers (not hardcore partying, more like drinking a couple and relaxing by the pool partying).

Tipping: We tipped alot. We tipped for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks by the beach. I know you don't have to, but we always tip wherever we go, so it's become customary for us to bring a bunch of $1/$5 bills on trips. They work hard and especially for those people who bent over backwards to help us with something, it was an easy thing to do.

Overall, I would say this is a great resort to vacation at. The food was pretty good, staff was nice, entertainment noteworthy, beach was beautiful and the weather at the time I went was perfect. I don't know if I would return, just because I love traveling to different places, but I would recommend it as a place to go in Mexico if you're looking for a great all-inclusive.

Let me start by saying we went to puerto Vallarta to attend a family party. So we did not pick the destination or resort. We viewed the website before our stay and thought it would be adequate to accommodate family members of all ages including our children ages 9 and 13. We were pleasantly surprised (after it took 2 hours to clear customs at the airport) finally arriving at the hotel. Photo's on the web do not do this property justice. The resort is tucked in its own bay so has a remote feel even though the city is quite close. Consequently anyone on the beach is a guest or invited vendor. Service is very friendly, especially if you tip the staff, they are very appreciative. Pools, restaurants and activities are in close proximity. The spa is very well done. Make sure to bargain for services, we noted that they will usually discount by 30%. There are 2 restaurants by the ocean. One a steakhouse and the other seafood. Oceania (seafood)was our favorite. On site is also a coffee shop which serves splendid pastry and barista coffee throughout the day. Of course there is the standard buffet restaurant right by the pool and beach which suffices for lunch and breakfast. Room service is also available. Splurge for the preferred tower of rooms. You gain your own concierge, bar service and snack service in the private lobby. The rooms are nicely appointed.
The only complaint would be that there is not much nightlife after 10 pm. We were usually ready to turn in by this time but if you wanted to party a trip off the resort would be required.
This is the type of resort you can stay at for a week and never leave. However, if you would like to go out and sight see or participate in activities, that is also available.
We don't usually return to a destination as we like to try new places. But I would recommend a trip to Dreams Resort.

Room Tip: We had our children with us so required 2 beds to accommodate. The beds are shown as queen size, how...

We actually arrived at Dreams Villamagna and after three days with only one shower that had somewhat warm water we were moved to Dreams PV. Upon arrival we were very excited to have more of a resort feel instead of a hotel feel. The staff were very cordial, understanding that we had, had a problem at Villamagna, They greeted us with champagne and warm wash clothes, we arrived early evening and they got us checked in very quickly. The rooms were not as glamorous as Villamagna, but were clean! We actually were ocean side (as all rooms are) but were on the ground floor, so we had a lot of plants but could still see the ocean a bit. If we go again I would request on a higher floor. But were thankful that they could accommodate us!
Our first dinner was amazing we got right into the seaside cafe which was right on the water set in a cliff. Beautiful. Upon rising the next day we could see how beautiful the resort was, beautiful walk ways, the restaurants were nicely spread out. The breakfast and lunch buffets at the world cafe, were amazing, at nite they would rotate the flavor of food here. They have a beautiful sea food restaurant on the beach, but not being a seafood person this did was not my favorite. The El Patio was indoor and was mexican food, wonderful atmosphere and food!
We had a wonderful waiter, but I cannot remember his name. We requested to be in Daniel section every time we ate at the World Cafe buffet, Daniel is a fabulous waiter and an awesome young man! Most of our trip was cloudy but Daniel always made the day exceptional! On the beach we had a wonderful waiter called Salizar, He was super! The desk staff were amazing as was all of the staff. The beach is private and the vendors who did walk around were the same each day, they were very respectful! And I did purchase items from them. The resort also had a flea market night, with several of the locals had their wares for you to shop at while having hor d' oeuvres and drinks were served, was very nice! If you are worried about leaving the resort, don't be, it was only 5 to 10 minutes to downtown Puerto Vallarta, the staff showed us different areas to shop depending on what shopping experience we wanted. They logged us and our friends out, taking our room number and names and what cab they put us in, and recorded the same when we returned. They explained that there is a special police force, with members standing on corners in various areas in case you have any problems or questions. We shopped the many artists shops (allow plenty of time for this) We were able to walk right up to a cab and get a ride back, the hotel tells you what the cost is for a cab, and that they will not charge you more. We were very appreciative of the staff and the Dreams organization for having made up for the cold shower situation at the Villamagna. Would most definitely return to this resort! We love the location, beach, and staff. Downside rooms could use a little upgrading. You can upgrade to nicer rooms but a pretty good price increase, and who is in the rooms that much!

Room Tip: Rooms on the lower floors are a little noisy. Rooms are not upgraded but very clean.

Thank you for the very complimentary comments regarding your recent stay at our resort. It is always nice to have positive feedback from our guests and to know that we have met or exceeded your expectations of our resort and its services.

It is always nice to hear that we were able to make up for the inconveniences that you had with the other resort and that at the end you were able to enjoy your vacation the way you very much deserve.

Hope to see you soon in this your home away from home.

It is a pleasure!

This is one of he best resorts in all Puerto Vallarta. It sits south of the city But is close enough to get into the city when you want to. All the restaurants at excellent. One of the biggest private beaches in all PV. Staff re among he best, pools are relaxing and the atmosphere great. This is a spot to go to relax. Forget the late night rock parties and a lot of noise, this is place to go to kick back and unwind.

Room Tip: The newer building has some advantage but either building s good. We have stayed there several times...

Looking for a great resort hotel? Then try Dreams Resort & Spa just south of Puerto Vallarta.
We had 11 amazing days and cannot say enough about the entertainment staff, food and accommodations. Every time we made a request they said yes and would make it happen. We plan to return. The hotel has a classic mexican feel and although we have stayed at ritzier hotels in Cabo and Cancun this was by far the best resort. Loved the fact that they do not make you wear wrist bands, there are no towel cards and they do not limit how many towels through the day. You do not have to make reservations at any of the a la carte restaurants.

Just returned from Dreams an all inclusive in Puerto Vallarta. My husband and I were long time fans of the Camino Real (which was the former name of this property) though not high on all inclusives so we had not been back to this lovely spot since the change 9 years ago. The property remains beautifully kept and the staff could not be kinder and more accomodating. We were greeted with champagne and a cool wash cloth, an excellent welcome. There are 5 restaurants including the World Cafe which is where breakfast and lunch buffets are served daily. Because the weather was so uncertain, it was good not to have to think too much about going into town for dinner. We were there fro Valentine's Day and there was a wonderful party. One of the things that my husband and I appreciated was that we could sit at a table for two. We did not want to have to sit at a large table with people we did not know. The buffet dinner was quite good and the band which played non-stop was great. Our favorite restaurant was Oceania, mostly seafood, right on the beach, excellent service. We did also have dinner at the Seafood grill which is quite romantic at night as you can see the ocean, and the lights of Puerto Vallarta from the open air dining room. On the one night that it rained we had dinner at Portofino, cozy and dimly lit, perfect for the cool night. The buffets for breakfast and lunch were excellent. Champagne and wine
were available at both. The rooms have not changed much which is not a problem . However the bathroom makeovers were minimal which might be a problem for some people. We had a room with a balcony which we requested and which is a bit extra but really worth the cost. All rooms overlook the beach and the ocean. It was good to be back and we were happy to see that all of the beauty and ambience of the old Camino Real had been retained. On another note, this is also a very family friendly resort. There is an Explorer's club open early and into the evening . Good for amusing the little ones and giving parents a break if they want it. There is a lot going on all day for all. This is a very good choice for all ages and stages. It is not, however, the quiet and sedate place of our memory.

Room Tip: Request a room with a balcony in the middle of the floor, it is quieter as there is a road that goes...
