“Best vacation in Zihuatanejo”
Reviewed 23 March 2012

We stayed @ Hotel Irma from 03/10/2012 -03/17/2012. It was the best vacation I've had in Zihuatanejo in 5 years. We were in room 103 and the view was breath taking of the bay. We found the staff to be very professional, polite, and helpful in any way. The rooms were clean and well taken care of daily, our housekeeper made animals from towels and left rose pedals and flowers around the room daily. The pools were big and clean and felt oh so good. The breakfast in the restaurant was great, no matter what you ordered. It was nice to have WIFI in the lobby and pool area. The hotel was centrally located within easy walking distance to many places. It was very safe, quiet, peacefull and just plain relaxing to be there. I would highly recommend Hotel Irma to anyone visiting Zihuatanejo. The price was very affordable and the view, hard to beat. You can bet I will stay there again next year.

Room Tip: Rooms by the pool have spectacular view, nice patio

My family loved our stay at Hotel Irma. Incredible, gorgeous views of the ocean and sunset. Fantastic pool setting that overlooks the beach. 2 pools! We loved their breakfasts and the staff were so friendly for the whole stay. Free WIFI in the lobby/pool. The rooms are small a little dated, but all have ocean views and balconies or lounging areas. As well as ours smelled of stale smoke a bit and had a step up to the bathroom area which was hard to navigate at night a bit. Overall we had an great stay and it was so close the Madera beach and La Ropa as well. We would come back again, if not just for the view. GREAT value!

Room Tip: Higher up the better for a breeze.

I hope to return to Zihuatanejo soon, and when I do, I will definitely stay again at Hotel Irma. The view and location are stunning. Every day began on our balcony with a view of the bay, and every evening ended on our balcony overlooking La Madera Beach and the bay. The grounds are gorgeous and impeccably maintained, the salt-water pools fantastic, the staff lovely, and the price is right. The location is perfect, halfway between the center of town and La Ropa beach. We had several friends in different lodgings while we were there, and after visiting all of them and poking our heads in several hotels along the beach, we would still return to the Irma. I hope it's soon!!

Room Tip: Most rooms have a balcony. A few don't. Ask for the view!!

Situated near the top of a hill and overlooking Madiera Beach and the bay with a spectacular sunset view along with the entire Zihuatenejo area. A ten minute walk along the seawalk takes one to the center of town and ten minutes the other way takes one to La Ropa Beach. So, the location is the absolute best in town. The staff couldn't be more accomodating. The hotel is impeccably clean and inviting due to the constant efforts of MaryLou, the manager, urging the staff. Sometimes the maid will make a bird or heart (Valentine's) out of bath towels, add flower petals and leave it on your bed (Nice touch). They have a restaurant facing the swiming pools and bay that serves fantastic breakfasts. Internet in the common areas is free. We have stayed at the Irma about six times. From time to time, we stay at other hotels in Zihuatanejo for short periods of time. We always to back to the Irma. It's the best!

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms with balcony are available for a few dollars more than ones without balconies. Th...

3 couples travelling together. Only had one night in Zihuatanejo and wanted a place close to restaurants and with a view. The Irma was a good choice. Rooms all had a nice view and the setting by the pool was an excellent place to have our first margarita and enjoy the fabulous view. As noted the bathroom door is more like a saloon door from an old western but not an issue for us. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Biggest issue was lack of water pressure an dhot water in the shower. Started out fine then quit.. no water ..when it came back on it was cold! Not a big deal as it was just one day but would have complained to the desk if we were staying longer. Breakfast was good. Would stay here again. Rooms we had were 405, 406, 306. All with same view and small balcony. A few stairs but nothing too onerous. Room had aircon but we turned it off and slept with balcony door open..had nice screen door.

Just returned from a driving trip that included 2 days at the Irma Hotel. Great location, lots of rooms with a view but also lots of stairs. Good pools and lots of loungers with pads and did I mention the view again. Happy hour from 5 to 7 was a good deal. Snacks are okay or very light meal, but don't recommend the evening meal.Decided to eat there first night since we had a great fish lunch late on the beach and we were tired from driving. Decided on just a hamburg and fries the a healthy chicken breast with vegetables. When the meals arrive in 5 min you know you are in trouble. The hamburg was sent back twice for being rare so told them to keep it. The chicken breast if that what it was had to be sawed apart and the veggies were from the freezer. The entire meal tasted microwaved. 5 waiters standing around and no one in the kitchen can prepare fresh food of which there is no excuse in Mexico. We were the only Gringos or occupants at Hotel Marie Teresa the night before in Playa Azul and the cook prepared a wonderful meal. Recommend going to right out of hotel to Puerto del Sol. Lovely restaurant with a decent view, very reasonable prices and food prepared on the spot. Just don't be in a hurray. Otherwise staff etc are friendly and helpful, rooms large and basic but clean so would certainly recommend hotel but don't eat here. So many more options.

Room Tip: one with a bay view and lower levels if any physical problems

We have been back to Hotel Irma four times so we obviously like it. Great place for a family get together. Rooms vary from those on floor 4-6 with private balcony facing the ocean, others open on to communal patios also with ocean views, or a few are in corners with more space but no view. Each couple in our group has a different favorite. There can be a lot of stairs to some of the rooms, so make your needs known if this is an issue. Since other recent (2011) posts describe the hotel and rooms as we found them I won't repeat. We found the staff to all be helpful and usually very friendly. Jaime at the front desk and Isaac on the serving staff in particular are helpful and friendly.

When we asked, a (used) styrofoam ice chest was provided that I used to store a small amount of food (fruit) in. Ice could be purchased in the restaurant or at the small stand at the top of the hill.

Our only disappointment this year was noise from the nearby restaurant Kau Kan that two nights (Sat, Thurs) had late night parties on their roof top terrace. Saturday night the music lasted until Sunday 6 am (daybreak) with someone periodically doing something that sounded like karaoke. This was annoying since the best part of the vacation is leaving the balcony door open, AC off and hearing the ocean waves crash on beach below during the night.
