Volcano Paricutin is a fantastic place. It usually ties in with a visit to the San Juan Parangaricutiro Church. I liked the San Juan Parangaricutiro Church much better then the Volcano. Now, I would like to share how to get there (in english for all solo travelers). So first, you can take a bus from Uruapan autobus station and when the bus is at the town called Angahuan, stop when you see the Pemex Petrol Kiosk. This is a whole day event. So, I arrived in the morning, there were men who will ask if you would like to travel to the volcan. I went on a weekday off peak season. I was the ONLY person who went to the volcano that day (True story). So after bargaining, got a horse and guide for only 450 pesos (cheap but probably only possible on super-offpeak). Took like 2 hours on horseback to get to the volcano where there is an additional enterence fee which is quite cheap. There, I climbed up the steep volcano. Views were spectacular however not as awesome as those in Mt Bromo (indonesia). The climb down was even more treacherous as the terrain was a rock sandy and it was steep.
Then, we took a horse back and visited the church which was really WOW. To get back to Uruapan, simply go back to the PEMEX station and flag down the autobus (Bus) going back to Uruapan.
tips: Wear good shoe. If you want to walk and not take a horse, its really far but nonetheless get a guide (its worth every cent as the route to the volcan is not easy to go). But if you are going to the church only, its possible to walk.
This is a full day event.
