We came to Tlaquepaque before I knew this was where Bustamante was from and was so excited to see there was his art gallery/store! For years I have 'pinned' his art to my pinterest page. Here was an extensive gallery with only his sculpture, paintings, jewerly, ceramics! So very exciting! So if you are a fan Like I am, you will love this place!

Sergio Bustamante is one of the most popular artists of Mexico. Just a stroll down The Malecon in Puerto Vallarta or the Andador in Tlaquepaque, you will find the works of Bustamante and see the interaction he creates with the audience. Mostly comprised of sculptures and silver jewelry, his galleries are creative, inspiring and unique. The Guadalajara location is much more extensive than Puerto Vallarta. There is a labyrinth of rooms featuring different themes. There is even a beautiful serene fountain garden visible to the gallery. Much like the art of Carlos Albert, his work makes you smile. Suns, moons and variations of them come to life when you see them. The sculptures are mostly bronze and jewelry is sterling silver. Now, along with solid sterling silver, he offers silver plated jewelry at a lower price point.
We hope to feature the work of Sergio Bustamante in our Atlanta Ga gallery in the future.

The Sergio Bustamante Art Gallery & Boutique is located in the historic center of Tlaquepaque on Independence St, where uspcale boutiques, fancy restaurants, antique shops and fine Mexican artcrafts shops can be found. The admission is free and once there you will be able to admire Sergio Bustamante´s work: paintings, sculpture, jewelry and leathergoods. Everything is on sale. It is pricy, though.

This place is a must see. We didn't buy anything, but we so enjoyed walking through all the rooms. Really spectacular. It doesn't cost anything to look, so check this place out

When we booked two full days in Tlaquepaque, I expected a gallery scene similar to Carmel or Scottsdale. Contributors to Tripadvisor rave about Avenida Independencia. Much to my chagrin, there were indeed many shops, but I would call pathetically few of these "galleries". These shops peddle ceramics and textiles, few created by original artists, most are machine-made.

Happily, there was one standout exception. The Fundacion Sergio Bustamante is a large tranquil space displaying the work of the nominative artist. On the western end of Independencia, this gallery displays a variety of Bustamante's work. In addition to the sculpture, there are a variety of other objects to which the artist applies his name and offers for sale: handbags, jewelry and nicknacks.

Bustamante has a characteristic style, abstract, usually triangular figures from which (as if protruding from behind the material) is a human face. These faces are frequently thoughtful. And the art is thought provoking. Within the bounds of the gallery are two gardens boasting Bustamante fountains, water drizzling from between those thoughtful lips.

This was the only gallery of such caliber that I was able to find in Tlaqupaque. And this includes the so called museums. If yu find yurself in Tlaquepaque, enjoy the atmosphere and the food, but for heaven's sake, do not miss the Gallery Sergio Bustamante.
