Dinner here was better than expected. It appears to be one of the many traditional restaurants in the historic center. However, the service was gracious and the food was outstanding. I had chicken in mole, which was terrific. The chicken was moist, tender and delicious. The mole sauce was very good. A delightful experience. I saw someone eating a steak--it looked really good, so I'll have to go back and give it a try.

In a positive way old fashioned and elegant restaurant just one block away from the cathedral in Mexico Citys downtwon. We ordered a very well seasoned salad with pears, caramelized pecan nuts and blue cheese. We also ordered a ´chile relleno´ or stuffed green pepper with duck meat and nuts, in a delicious peanut sauce. The espressos we ordered afterwards were also very good. All in a perfect meal with excellent service.

We had our first meal in Mexico at The Mercaderes - a very promising start to the holiday!
The food was very good as were the cocktails,
The warm 'bread appetiser' was so moreish we couldn't manage dessert - shame. We intendeded to nibble a little of the bread, but couldn't stop. It is made like a large Chelsea Bun, but savoury with cheese and hebs rolled up in it - gorgeous.
The only thing we didn't like was the Mezcal. There was a wide choice and we recommended a 'gentle sweet' one - it was probably closer to battery acid (not that I've tried battery acid, just using my imagination).
The other great thing here was the help and guidance from two of the staff who spoke excellent English.
Thank you!

We concur with those who gave high ratings to the Tamarind chicken dish and the Chiles Encamisado, though the latter was too "picante" for me. My wife described it as "perfect." The sauce on my chicken was delicious. The presentation was strikingly impressive. Factor in good Mescal Margaritas, excellent cheese cake and decaf. cappuccino and you have a memorable meal worth repeating.

First impression was not great. It was a thursday night and 90 % of the folks in this place were geriatric. Probably all 65 years and older. Not to be mean but if you are looking for a lively scene this is not the place. Service was very slow and the waiter was unfamiliar with the wine list. Not a lick of english to even help make a reccomendation. We were starving and all the other restaurants were booked or we would have probably walked out.
There was no music playing, staff was vacuming and moving tables while we ate ( was only 8pm!) I thought that was rude.
Was not the highly rated place we anticipated.
