So sorry I was unable to stay more than one night...on a layover to Europe. Friends insisted this is where I should stay and was scheduled to arrive early afternoon. Snafu at the Cabo airport delayed us 3 hours, so by the time I arrived at the hotel, the restaurant had just closed. I opted to have a cocktail at the Phone Bar which was a real treat...with all the original vintage phones from Edison's time on the walls...and in glass cases. The bar tenders were great, too. I ordered room service and had to hit the sack before an early pickup back to the airport. Next time in Mexico City, I will definitely stay at Hotel Geneve.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 6 days, 5 nights. It is truly a gem of a hotel in a very exciting district of Mexico City. The rooms are older, but very spacious and comfortable. The staff is exceptional. The concierge, Ariel is wonderful. He can provide history of the hotel as well as explain the wonderful attractions in Mexico City and surrounding areas. He helped us book a day trip to Puebla, Mexico that will be remembered as a highlight of our visit to Mexico. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to visit Mexico City.

Room tip: Hotel Rooms away from street side are quiet.

We have stayed at Hotel Geneve five or six times over the past ten years and stayed there again for six nights last week. It is a historic hotel and has been refurbished many times to keep up with the times while retaining its character. It is well located as is described in many of the other reviews. We enjoy the hotel particularly due to its staff, location and comfort.

On our latest trip we spent our time mainly taking walking tours of various neighborhoods and parks accessible to the hotel. As always the staff of the hotel was friendly and helpful. You can easily walk to the historic center and Zocalo as well as Roma, Condesa, Chapultepec Park and even Polanco.

The hotel staff appears to be treated as a larger family by the management. We have become familiar with many of the staff and are happy to see them when we return. The hotel has a number of drivers available who can serve as tour guides a bit too. We have toured the hotel with the concierge, Arie,l who is justifiably proud of the hotel and staff. There is a dining room in the basement for the staff, and they are all fed quality meals along with receiving living wages.

In the surrounding area you will see many buildings damaged by the earthquake a year ago. The hotel was originally built in its location due to the good soils it sits upon. Some years ago as building technology advanced it was refurbished to further enhance its ability to withstand major earthquakes, and it has withstood the tests of many serious and strong earthquakes.

To anyone who might think the hotel is "Shoddy Luxury" I would say that they failed to enjoy the reality of the hotel and the staff. The prospect of running a hotel that is in some areas more than 100 years old in a city that has grown so rapidly while maintaining reasonable rates and a high quality of comfort and safety is daunting. The Hotel Geneve has done this and provides its guests with a real experience of Mexico and the culture that drives its vibrant capital city. We are thankful that it exists for us and all other guest who are lucky enough to experience it.
